Food prepared at Le Baratin is indeed classic with a modern twist. Classic in a sense of ‘old school’: our sauces are all made in-house, with a veal-based stock. These days, that is very rare. Jean likes the good old way of preparing food - truly, the proper way! Moreover, there is not a bistro in France that doesn’t serve at least 2 out of the 3 desserts we offer: Tarte Tatin, Mousse au Chocolat, and Creme Caramel.
For lunch, the Croque Monsieur is a must-have. French peasant, or street food, is uniquely reinvented here.
Our wine list is mid-priced and extensively curated from France; we offer the best value for the best price. Or, try any of our other cocktails!
Great little gem!!! Food was perfectly prepared; excellent presentation!!
Quel plaisir de retrouver de vraies saveurs dans un cadre agréable, avec un service chaleureux!
Wonderful food, lovely staff, lovely vibe. Our first time and we’ll be back!
Delicious as always, authentic, and great quality and value. Tuesday night half price wine an added bonus.
One of my favourite places in Toronto. Food is always delicious, service is excellent, and the atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming. Le Baratin is a gem!
the quantity of food is really small. We both had a steak and frites and if we hadn't ordered an appetizer,we would have been left hungry after the meal. The dessert selection wasn't great.
My husband had to have a snack before going to bed.
Hello Francoise, Sorry to hear that your dinner wasn't fully satisfying; but we're surprised by your comment as we've served over 7000 steak-frites since the opening in 2016, and never had this kind of comment! We do serve 7oz (or 170gr.) chucktail steak which is standard in French bistro. If you're used to Steak house then it's different; $59 16oz Rib Eye (Barberian), $52 10oz N.Y. Strip (Hys) or 6oz Steak (The Keg) but not for $25! So we'll stick to what our Patrons enjoy so far!
Excellent service, qualité de la nourriture excellente.
A lovely little French spot with good food and great service.
Food, atmosphere, service : Excellent!
As expected, as usual
Thank you guys!
Beautiful place, amazing menu, great combinations and beautifully presented
Excellent value French restaurant. Everything was great! Thank you for a fantastic experience. We will return regularly!
Very good food. Not too expensive. Unusual wines. Great desserts. Friendly staff. That defines a great place for an evening out to me. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Our second New Year's Eve dinner at Le Baratin with our good friends - and once again we were absolutely delighted with the menu variety and the delicious flavours. We will be back for our third on the eve of 2021
Excellent meal and refreshingly unpretentious staff & atmosphere. A neighbourhood gem!
Fantastic food and the best service. We’ll be back and often!
Love this intimate neighbourhood gem. Like a trip to France!
Excellent food and service. The moules were fabulous, will be returning!
We were all slightly disappointed with the quality of food. We had higher expectations.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your dinner as we didn't get any negative comment or remarks on that night. We can't meet people's expectations if these expectations are irrelevant with what we know and do. We try to deliver bistro style service, food and atmosphere. Obviously it must have been you first time. And we wish we could have treat you for another meal at Le Baratin, but difficult to do with another anonymous comment. Kindly.
Have already recommended visiting Le Baratin to friends and co-workers. We had a great time.
Always an excellent experience dining at Le Baratin. The wine choice with organic options and the local food and daily specials make it a place I frequent for special occasions and the Prix Fix nights are great when I have to eat on a budget!
Wonderful! Our server was fantastic & the food perfection!
French menu is very authentic and quality of food is outstanding. We love trying delicious daily specials which never disappoint. We invited our family to try Le Baratin, and they were equally impressed.
We were very happy with our most very first dinner visit to Le Baratin. Our steak et frites were wonderful. Service was great. Prices very reasonable. Will be happy to recommend to anyone.
I’m a regular!! My favourite French restaurant in the city. Amazing food and exceptional service !
Fabulous friendly service, absolutely delicious food, everything with a wonderful French atmosphere.
The only recommended improvement would be to cut or turn down the music...the noise level is hard enough in a small place...it doesn’t need any help from music to increase it.
Thank you to all involved in this wonderful restaurant.
The food was acceptable, but there are numerous similar venues with better quality. The service was sub-par from the beginning. We had to ask the server to remove a portable chalkboard from our table roughly ten minutes after we were seated as nobody came to check on us sooner. The place was not busy at the time. We were not offered any water, and had to request it after our drinks were delivered. We had the charcuterie board to start which featured a duck pate that was a little too dry. For mains we had the duck which was perfectly acceptable and a seafood stew in a lobster bisque which was very nice. Overall it was not a bad experience, however it could have been better. That being said, the prices were very reasonable, although I don’t mind paying a bit more at other french restaurants in town as the food and service are both better elsewhere.
Hello Jeff, Thank you for your rating even if "acceptable" doesn't sound too good and doesn't seem to describe our food based on numerous reviews. According to our server it seems that you really enjoy the food that night. Regarding service, we are a Bistro; the DNA of a bistro is casual, relax and unpretentious; we don't pretend to compete with high end restaurants. That why we leave a chalkboard (daily's special) on tables for a few minutes, & really sorry for the water: our mistake! Cheers.
The ambiance is more than welcoming, the staff prompt and efficient, the food is DIVINE!!! Would whole-heartedly recommend it to all my friends, will definitely be back, and always will consider it for inviting people for either brunch or dinner!
Amazing food and service, relaxed atmosphere and ambiance. I will go back soon!
Have been to Le baratin six or seven times over past 2-3 years. This time disappointed in appetizers. Loved the old presentation of dips on wood platter w breads and flat bread. This time, on small plate without array of rolls etc. coffees at end used to come w small cookies , not anymore. Mains and wine were great though and I love the atmosphere. Our friends had never been and loved it but I remember it being better.
Sorry to learn you're disappointed! We do serve "assiette pour discuter" with home-made olive cake and not with sourdough bread anymore (and no roll ever) to keep it as the same price as ... 2 years ago! Bread from Mabel is alway available on the menu to order. And sorry if you didn't get any cookies, as the one we do in-house have always been for sale (at $.70/each for the trad. shortbread !) And what about the rests of the dinner. It's be nice and fair to comment directly to us. Cheers.
Its always a pleasure to dine at Le Baratin. There's such a welcoming environment, attentive servers and of course wonderful food. Chef Jean Regis' ready smile is the icing on the cake.
Very aesthetically pleasing interior and french vibe. Cozy and comforting decor. Very good food, their specials are worth a mention. I felt as though a lot of effort was put into that dish just for me. That's how you want to feel.
Great food and service. It’s a simple French bistro with excellent food. We were there for a birthday.
Best steak frites in the city <3
Really like this place. I just returned from 5 weeks in France and it felt completely like I was back there. Good food, good service and the $25/person prix fixe deal on Monday's is great.
Everything about this restaurant is wonderful. Do yourself a favor and go.
Great food and terrific service - I'd go back again.
My favourite French restaurant is Toronto. Hands down.
The food was incredible. Service was prompt and very attentive. Also very well informed. I can't wait to go back.
It's one of our favourite local spots. Charming French bistro with excellent food at a good price. This particular time we were there for the prix fixe menu. The beef cheeks were so tender they melted in your mouth. Perhaps I might have had a bit more cheese or sundried tomatoes to bump up the intensity of the salad--but I'm just nitpicking. We love it there.
Absolutely incredible. Chef Jean and our server Amon were so attentive throughout our meal. We were totally satisfied and are eager to return the next time we are in Toronto. Highly recommend!
