If the service was a bit faster, this would be a knock out. Friendly staff. Great drinks, gourmet milkshakes, good burgers/fries. I got a skillet with their potatoes, house made garlic chili sauce, shawarma chicken and two over easy eggs - delicious!! Be prepared for laid back & don't be in a rush & you'll have a great meal.

I was a bit hesitant to choose a place that specialized in burgers and shawarma, but decided to take the plunge. We were not disappointed. There were four of us and two had burgers and two had shawarma and all were excellent. The shakes are great too. We had an appetizer platter and the hummus was amazing, and the wings were good. The baba ganoush was a disappointment as it was a bit bland; but that was the only disappointment on the night. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for brunch!

Great burgers and the vegetarian burger was delicious. They are pricey and I thought we were getting a free birthday dessert since we didn't order it but it was added to our bill.

The night we went to Layla's they had a fabulous belly dancer. She engaged the diners and even invited some to learn some of the dance movements. The music was exotic, the food was tastey. My only issue was that during the meal before the entertainment the music in the restaurant was overly loud. They were very gracious to turn down the volume when we asked. A few minutes later we asked if they could lower it more and they accommodated us nicely. We would certainly go back again.

6 of us went for dinner and had a lovely evening. The service was good -- the waiter was attentive and checked on us regularly even though we were in a room separate from the one where he was stationed. The food was delightful: the falafel fresh and mildly spiced, the baba ganoush deliciously smoky. The meat lovers in the group reported that the chicken kebobs were tender and well-seasoned, as was the schwarma(sp?). For my taste there was way too much parsley in the tabbouleh -- I like more bulgur in mine -- but it was light and fresh, perfect for a hot summer evening. Lovely Lebanese music on the sound system though conversation was sometimes a challenge as it was quite loud. Overall, though, it was a fine evening and we'll be going back.

Layla is getting better with time, and the restaurant, is getting nicer, as more amenities are being added. The food has always been wonderful, but now you have white table linen, and belly dancers to brighten up the place. The bar is also getting better, and though not expansive, it does have some nice wines and cocktails.
Great experience, and a "must check out" in the Grove.

Each of the 5 of us ordered a different dish and we all thoroughly enjoyed our choices. The prices are very reasonable and the service (on a Thursday) was excellent. I would make a return visit.

Located in the Grove, Layla is a combo of neighborhood ethnic food cafe and well-crafted stylish gem. Service was friendly and prompt. A belly dancer even appeared to add flair to the atmosphere. Most importable the improbably large two person Mezze platter of hummus, falafels, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, etc served with plentiful warm pita was enough food for four (or leftovers for the next day!). Dips and various apps were flavorful and authentic, and we left full and satisfied - all at a very reasonable price.

Excellent entrees (we tried the chicken, steak, and shrimp skewers), however the pita that came with the hummus was not what we expected as it was very thin and more like a crepe.

The food at Layla is second to none. The portions are huge and prices more than fair. The Mezza Platter for Two can serve 4 for an almost complete meal and it is truly one of the best platters of food one will ever see. It is not only fresh but also contains complex blends of flavors, textures, and ingredients. My only complaint, and this is very minor, is that the platter doesn't come with serving spoons so diners are left to "double-dip". Don't miss the mint tea; order a pot and you won't be disappointed.

Very disappointing. Have eaten there several times in the past and food and service was always good. This visit was not at all what we had hoped for. The hummus, eggplant dish, and baked chicken dish were bland and servings much smaller than previous visits. One of our guests ordered a rum and tonic and he said he could barely detect any rum in the drink.
We ordered an olive salad. When it came to the table it looked different than the last time we ordered it. We asked our waitress about it and she was very defensive, sarcastic and clearly not pleased that we asked about it.
Finally, prices listed on-line were approximately 30% less than the actual prices on the menu.Wondering if the restaurant has a new manager or owner?

Great food, decent-sized portions, and great waiting staff. When we were there, there was a belly dancer show for about half an hour and she was a great addition to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

A good place. Not a great place. I was excited to find a Lebanese restaurant here in STL. Good place. But not great. I was expecting to find interesting wines including Lebanese, but this place is definitely not wine friendly. Extremely limited list, just four reds and four whites, none of them having to do with Lebanon; also, they were out of three of the whites, so just one choice. Flavors: they were good, but not great. Not what you want going to a Lebanese restaurant. You want exotic; you want something authentic. This is a cute place, but they need to upgrade.

We went with some friends to Laylas to try their Lebanese food which was quite good. We had Kibbeh and tabbouleh as appetizers. My wife and I shared an olive salad which was huge and very good. I had the lamb chops which were very nicely done. My wife had the mixed grill which was chicken beef and shrimps all of which were quite good. All the food was a little on the spicy side but was complimentary to the entrees. I had called ahead to be sure the restaurant served alcohol and they did. The list was not extensive but it was adequate. We had an Argentinian Malbec which went nicely with the meal. As an added bonus the restaurant had a belly dancer who entertained for a while. Not an expert but she put on a pretty good show.

When reviewing Layla's, it sounded like the restaurant was in an energetic area around lots of shops and other restaurants. But it's actually not - it was more secluded, maybe because it was extremely windy and raining hard that night. We were there around 7pm and were the only ones in the restaurant. Another couple came a bit later. But the food was absolutely delicious and the service was great!

Had a couple of great meals at this place, about 2 months apart, and felt that the ethnic nature of the cuisine had been well represented.
The belly dancing was a great touch!

Good food and attentive service -- it's great to have a restaurant like this in the Grove. They make some pretty tasty hummus. Our party of eight wasn't sure about the belly dancer at first, but she turned out to have a great sense of humor and made this place really memorable. The kitchen might want to have a look at its baklava recipe, though. Light and flaky on the pastry is what's called for, guys.

This is a relatively new restaurant (open abt 2mos) and, while I enjoyed visiting The Grove neighborhood, would not return to go to Layla's. We didn't order a lot of food, but what we did was hit-and-miss. Perhaps they ran out of lemons the Friday we visited? The Baba Ganoush tasted like mashed eggplant - no tahini, no garlic, and definitely no lemon. No acid/lemon on the Tabbouleh and no lemon wedges provided with the dolmades. Worse yet, the dolmades were bereft of any dill flavor ... they tasted like sticky rice wrapped in grape leaves. The lamb chops were nicely grilled (though sparce at 3 very small chops per plate) but the chicken kebab received high marks. Good enough to try once, but not to return.
