Lavo - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Even though I arrived 15 minutes early I was promptly informed that there is a 15 minute grace period just in case my friend didn’t arrive on time I would not be seated...????
When we were seated since my friend did arrive on time ...I was then informed that I should immediately start ordering and not waste time! So rude...and I made a reservation a week in advance.
The music is so loud you cannot have a conversation and I had to send the pasta back because it tasted like msg...salt and vinegar. After 2 bites I had to drink an entire glass of water.
I would never go back...Horrible experience from the minute I walked in. The guy at the reservation desk is in need of some serious customer service training!
We only had time for cocktails and appetizers because we were going to a show. The Lavolini cocktail was fantastic! The meatball was pretty good but I didn’t feel that it was as good as the hype. The octopus was chewy and not great at all. My husband and I eat octopus nearly everywhere it’s offered and this was a disappointment.
I usually love Lavo but my past experience was really bad. I had a reservation for 9:30pm and waited an hour to be seated. When I went to the hostess stand for the third time to check on our table, I was actually asked “Is your party all female?” I was so taken aback that I just answered (no) instead of asking them why that should even matter. After this, I saw a table of all females get seated before us (presumably at the first table that was available). I’m really not sure what gender has to do with ordering dinner and getting seated, but I won’t be back.
Like Vandal and Beauty & Essex, the owners of TAO, have taken a recipe (Italian cuisine) and served it up with a live DJ and great interior design to create a hot spot.
The result is good (mostly). With a menu featuring Italian classic (no Lasagna) as well as Steaks and Seafood, LAVO’s menu leaves you overwhelmed with choices.
The bar is stocked with bankers and their mistresses — oh and a good selection of cocktails (if you drink cocktails). The wine list is disappointing, although I suppose there is a lot of Italian wines. But it lacks better, more affordable classic wines (affordable = $70-90).
But anyway, at this point you’ll probably be pumped from all the energy and vibes, which is good because there’s a nightclub downstairs. You’ll need to enter from a separate door, but that’s if you haven’t already run out the back from your hefty dinner and drinks bill.
The food was really good and the portions were good as well. The interior was beautiful, and it felt comfortable. We went on a Friday night with friends and the music was really good as well. I had a cocktail and it was really good, and the boys got beers and said they were tasty as well. Overall, we had a great night, with great food/drinks and company.
Even with the reservation the kep us waiting for 30 mint and every time I asked them about the time it will take to get the table they says that the don’t know and we will be served shortly.
I spoke with resturant manger and he said it normal to wait that long in the resturant even if we have a reservation.
Over all, the reception and the manger has very bad attitude and not organize at all.
