Lavo - NYC Ratings and Reviews
I always like this place and it is almost a neighborhood place for me. I was attending a business lunch there on Friday but was not happy with the carelessness of the greeter. I announced my arrival and told her about my booking. I stood nearby at the front but she never told me my guest was inside seated. She was not helpful and offered no apology at the end. I found this very unfriendly.
I hope she learned her lesson and be more alert. This was a business dinner. I also told the manager to be more careful in future.
We waited 1/2 hour for our table despite a reservation then waited another 15 mins for a waiter. Didn’t get water or bread for another 10 mins. Waiter was MIA most of the time. Food came out slowly, our plates were not cleared. I waited. 20 mins to get my card back to pay the bill, i had to ask a random server to get it for me. The food was fair, nothing special. We got there at 7:30 and left at 10:30. 3 hours was way too long to be there for a mediocre meal. I won’t ever go back or recommend LAVO to anyone. Bad experience.
My family and I had a blast at Lavo! I'd been to the Lavo in Las Vegas but the one in NYC topped it. It was recommended by a local friend and I'm glad I took him up on his advice. The "meatball", the gnocci, and the eggplant parmesan all we're exisit as was the service. Thanks for making our visit special! Can't wait to return.
I've dined at this restaurant before and had a good experience. This time was a disappointment. Our server was distracted and we often found ourselves waiting longer than is acceptable for things we had ordered or for our plates to removed between courses. Such a shame too because it was a special bday dinner and the day had been exceptional up to this point. The manager was very kind but unfortunately could not undo the damage done.
I may have arrived at a shift change (5pm on a Sunday) but the service was off. We didn't like the table so we asked to be moved to another one. We were told to wait for another table to be prepared but it seemed to take a long time to do that and we finally just got up and moved to the table without someone coming back to tell us. The waiter wasn't around much and the food took longer to arrive than I expected, esp since there were not many customers when we sat. By the time 6pm arrived, the restaurant was much busier and the service seemed to pick up, which is why I thought perhaps it was a shift change.
The staff was very helpful and service was excellent. Food was outstanding. Great selection of traditional Italian foods and prices were very reasonable for the area. This is obviously a very popular place in NYC. Only negative is we had to make our way through a massive crowd by the bar to get out of the building when we finished out dinner. Will definitely return on our next trip to NYC.
Even though I arrived 15 minutes early I was promptly informed that there is a 15 minute grace period just in case my friend didn’t arrive on time I would not be seated...????
When we were seated since my friend did arrive on time ...I was then informed that I should immediately start ordering and not waste time! So rude...and I made a reservation a week in advance.
The music is so loud you cannot have a conversation and I had to send the pasta back because it tasted like msg...salt and vinegar. After 2 bites I had to drink an entire glass of water.
I would never go back...Horrible experience from the minute I walked in. The guy at the reservation desk is in need of some serious customer service training!
We only had time for cocktails and appetizers because we were going to a show. The Lavolini cocktail was fantastic! The meatball was pretty good but I didn’t feel that it was as good as the hype. The octopus was chewy and not great at all. My husband and I eat octopus nearly everywhere it’s offered and this was a disappointment.
I usually love Lavo but my past experience was really bad. I had a reservation for 9:30pm and waited an hour to be seated. When I went to the hostess stand for the third time to check on our table, I was actually asked “Is your party all female?” I was so taken aback that I just answered (no) instead of asking them why that should even matter. After this, I saw a table of all females get seated before us (presumably at the first table that was available). I’m really not sure what gender has to do with ordering dinner and getting seated, but I won’t be back.
