Lavagna - NYC
The kitchen concept is to create dishes traditionally Italian, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients and product of the highest quality.
The menu highlights include homemade pastas, a wood oven roasted fish for two, roast pork chop, baby rack of lamb and of course the rigatoni with sweet and spicy sausage that has become a classic over the years.
The wine list has been a yearly recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2002 and it focuses on hard to find wines from regional Italy along with other international selections.

all the food is good; especially the rigatoni
had a great Negroni and liked my wine selection.
Lavagna is our favorite restaurant in NY. We visit every time we return to the city.
Better every time! Sublime fish and pasta and friendly, competence at every turn.
C at best, especially for the price. Really disappointed. Had the scallop appetizer, it was very good albeit small. Had the lamb which was really sinewy and not good. Lastly had the pollock , horribly overcooked and utterly flavorless. :(
Scallops were very good. Pork chop was moist and very tasty. My fiance had the rigatoni which was delicious. Unlike most restaurants lately, they had plenty of staff which was nice to see.
Excellent vibe overall. Amazing food and service. Would go again in a heartbeat
The good was ok but clumsy, with heavy use of cheese and not much subtlety.
The space was cramped and uncomfortable.
The maitre d / owner was brusque and unwelcoming.
a gem in the east village
easy calm and cozy
great food as well
This places never fails. Deliciously prepared fresh food, a great wine list, and great staff, make it an enjoyable experience every time.
The excellence of this place is relentless. Every ingredient sings-service, ambiance, and delectable food.
Absolutely love this place. The rabbit ragú is the best in New York - it’s my all time favourite comfort food!
Enjoyable every time. Great food and service. Nice outdoor area. Good wine list.
Every visit to this place is a delight. The food, service and ambiance balance one other in excellence. I will be back soon!
Although I hesitate to share it with too many, this is a wonderful restaurant, it is relaxed, but attentive and the food is excellent. The pizza ia utterly extraordinarily wonderful.
I usually do not write reviews... but I felt the need because the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Rigatoni pasta and finished the entire plate. Dinner was beyond my expectations. In addition, I highly recommend the Crostata Del Giorno and Gianduja Chocolate Mousse Cake. Do not skip out on the dessert!
Our dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. My only complaint is that the place could use a good cleaning. There was a lot of dust on the chains from the hanging lights, I don’t mean to sound petty but when I’m dining I want feel that the restaurant Is clean. As I said before the service and food were excellent but I was bothered by the very dirty lights
We loooooove it here!! The food is so amazing and we are obsessed with their pizzas! Thin crust, crispy and delicious! The staff is so welcoming and always make us feel at home. We usually order the specials as they are too good to pass up! Highly recommend!
Excellent food, excellent service. We ate outdoors on a very cool night but the heat lamp worked wonders.
I hadn't been to Lavagna in a number of years. I won't let it be so long next time. A lovely dinner at a very friendly and warm neighborhood restaurant. I'm so glad I went back.
Order the Focaccia. You won't be disappointed! Excellent food & service. Personal attention from the owner. We'll be back
The food and atmosphere are what makes NYC special.
The owner was very rude but the waitress was very nice therefore 3/5 stars
Food and service always good and professional. Wine service very good and fairly priced for NYC. Not much has changed in 20 years and that can be a good thing. The kitchen does all their seafood very good.
Love this place so much. The food is always amazing.
Lovely people, lovely food, lovely drinks. Can’t ask for more—will be back soon!
Continues to be my fave nyc spot!
Excellent, as ALWAYS!
The food and service are outstanding and I say this having been to Lavagna many times. The wine list is incredibly extensive for a restaurant of this size. I suggest a reservation. This place is really good and the dining rooms fills up very quickly.
Excellent pasta with a friendly neighborhood vibe
A special, charming neighborhood Italian restaurant.
Food was pretty terrible. Not sure how it has received the great reviews in the past, but we would never go back to this restaurant. The pizzas that we ordered were really not edible — reminded me of the pizza that used to be served on Fridays for lunch in my NYC public elementary school when I was a kid, which I loved as a kid and cost $1, but as an adult I am not about to eat again and pay full price for. My advice: avoid this restaurant.
We’ve been coming to Lavagna for 20 years and it is always the best dining we experience in NYC.
Half our party was early, the other half was due to arrive moments after our reservation time. At the moment the reservation was due to start, the staff was threatening to give the table away without any grace period. It was highly unwelcoming.
Lavagna never disappoints! The delicious pastas are made in-house and the fresh fish is always fantastic. Might I suggest you pair your rigatoni with a red wine from Etna?
Super busy Saturday night…. A nice change from full-pandemic status! The food is soooooo gooood. Hands down, coulda ate our way through the entire menu. While service was probably a bit overwhelmed from how busy it was, they were cool and we had a great time. The food was well worth it.
Lavagna is such a wonderful experience that I fear my wild appreciation in this review will make it harder to get a reservation. However, they inspire me to praise.
Nothing to shout about probably wouldn’t return but like many places it’s highly touted
Firstly, you must have a reservation and show your vaccine card. They are not a very big restaurant so this is understandable. We were seated at our time of reservation even though the restaurant was packed, indoors and outdoors.
Service was excellent and the specials were explained very well.
We were 3 in our party. Ordered the seared scallops as appetizer and they were delicious. For the mains we ordered the Rigatoni, the Pizzetta del Bosco and the Papperdelle. Everything was delicious. Ordered red wine. For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse cake.
It was a wonderfully lively dining experience. Highly recommend.
Outstanding cozy room, food and people.
Had dinner there for my aunt’s birthday. Lavagna never disappoints.
Perfect restaurant. Superb service.
