   I love this place. Whenever I’m in NYC, for whatever reason, I schlepp to Lavagna. It’s small, intimate, relaxed, intimate. Very dim. The food is phenomenal. Obv the rigatoni is a must, but we loved the special wild boar fettuccini as well. Phenomenal server and wine service with thoughtful personalized recommendations. Nice values and hidden gems on the list. The daily crostata is a must! In this case, pear. Chef’s kiss!

    Nice Italian restaurant. Everything we ordered was very good and the service was excellent. Kudos to our waiter Ben. Our drinks were made to perfection and all of our food came out in a timely matter. Will definitely be going back.

    Fabulous food. I love the whole roasted fish, my husband and son drool over the pasta and we all share the artichoke and cremini appetizer and the octopus and a salad. Great wine list. Friendly waiter and prompt service. They don’t rush you out of your table. Easy to have a long relaxing meal or to relax at before a downtown Shaw.

    Went here for an anniversary dinner and had some requests for the restaurant that were not even considered and we were rushed out from the moment we sat down even though we had a reservation. Food was good but was very disappointed in the experience.

    Lavagna is a gem. My family is a family of foodies and we all love Lavagna. It is consistently excellent. The Pizza is amazing, the other dishes are also excellent. I had never been a fan of pizza and am a fan of their pizza's only. The service is friendly, but no obsequious. I would happily eat their several times a week.

    I’ve been coming to Lavagna since the first month it opened, on February 14, 1999. It was my hidden treasure for many years. I always felt like I was entering a lovely trattoria in the town of “Lavagna” Italy—tucked away in a small charming village. The food was always delicious, authentic Italian, and the bottle of wine I always ordered paired nicely with the food. I dined there with my husband for years, at least once a week sometimes twice—until I decided to venture out in my hometown of Manhattan, never to find an Italian restaurant that compared. So after a very long hiatus I returned on Sunday, after going to a Charlie Parker Jazz concert at Tompkins Square Park, in the east village. It felt like I came home. I was greeted with a big hug from the owner, for which I was grateful—that he even remembered me. You won’t find eggplant parmigiana or spaghetti and meatballs—what you will find here is the most delicious pasta dishes, scallops, steak alla Lavagna and more. We ordered a pasta special that Kaye our waitress (whose worked there for years for which I am so happy about) highly recommended. I wish I could remember the name, but it was the best pasta dish I’ve ever tasted. She said it’s a summer dish, because they rely on the seasonal ingredients. They should make it a Lavagna staple! So I will end by saying “there’s no place like home”!

    Staff was unorganized and didn’t seem to know who was serving which table. Owner didn’t really seem to care. Made our table feel uncomfortable.

    We started with the prosciutto and fig with arugula and then we had the Black Sea bass special and they were both fantastic! I would absolutely recommend this place. The wine was beautiful as well (and reasonably priced!)
