Great restaurant for after Dinner with a business colleague. Delicious food with a diverse Menu covering Asian fusion cuisine from Malaysian and Thai entrees.
SOOO good! really busy but really good! It was very evident when they were ready to go home because the staff disappeared and they abruptly turned the radio off.
I went with a friend on Thursday evening for dinner. The food was delicious but the restaurant was very crowded. The service was erratic; I had to wait for more water for about 10 minutes mid-meal. The waitress took a long time to bring us the credit card slips, but was quick to come back and abruptly tell us that "she needed the table." I have waited tables for year; when I served customers in a timely manner, they were able to leave faster so I could seat other customers. I will not be rushing back there even though I really liked the food. I would only recommend going when they are less busy.
Loved the whole experience. I'll be back!!
Laut is great place if you are looking for some authentic Malaysian food. Mee Goreng and Bee Houn tastes just like back home. Service is attentive and fast. Ppl are friendly and care to make your experience pleasant. Give them a visit, you will not be displeased.
It was a flavor extravaganza! Started with the cocktail of the day - coconut with sake. I had the national dish of Malaysia with four unique flavors the most outrageous of which was peanuts with dried anchovy. He had a Tom Yum soup that was deliciously aromatic without being too spicy. Topped it off with the Chinese Pancake (which looks like a reverse waffle or big bubble wrap) with coconut ice cream. We were in the mood for Thai, but decided Malaysian was a good choice. I'm so glad we landed here!
food (pineapple curry) arrived cold, and shrimp were overcooked; mango was unripe in dessert
I love the food here!!! Definitely very authentic, always tasty, and amazing service.
My personal favorites are the chili crab and the teh tarik, and I'm yet to have a dish here that I havnt liked or not wanted to order again!
Fantastic restaurant, one of my go-to spots in all of NYC. Incredibly consistent each and every time I go. Best things on the menu are Roti Canai, Massaman Curry, Tom Kha with Shrimp, Pad Thai, Spicy Chili Crab, their fried rice w the egg on top-- for starters ;)
Great authentic Malaysian...
Delicious Malaysian food and a great low-key place for dinner with friends.
The service is really poor for the price. The wait staff is also really disorganized- even with reservations, they made a couple parties wait around (there were open tables). The food was not bad but not worth the price.
The food is amazing. We had a good experience herr
Great flavorful Southeast Asian food in a vibrant setting.
The food was delicious. Not a long wait for the food, despite the fact that they were crowded.
Food fragrant and tasty. Not oily!!!
once seated, service was attentive and quick.
(A little too quick!! We were nearly an hour early for our movie!)
Prices a little bit high for the size of the portions and the casual ambience.
Overall: strongly recommended
Food is a bit pricey, but the flavor makes up for it. Service is a bit slow, but I presume it was because they were understaff... Or the waiter/waitress were working double shift and by dinner time.... tired... Employer please take note. One more note, the Hainainees chicken is not Hainainees version chicken where it is cooked in ginger, garlic, spring onion broth, it is actually more of a roast chicken... Although seasoning is good but the meat is on the dry side.
Laut is one of the best values in the Union Square area! Food was very good with lots of vegetarian options, and prices were very reasonable. Atmosphere is okay -- the place is small and a bit noisy, so it was fine for our group of 8 but would probably not be as nice for, say, a date. Stay away from the coconut pudding, which is really more of a coconut jello with a texture that is very off-putting!
Everything we ordered appetizers (satay, curry puffs) to entrees (pad thai, massa municipal curry, shrimp with vegetables) were all excellent. Freshly prepared, hot to the table (a personal bugaboo) all of it was wonderful. Service was prompt and attentive. We'd go back in a heart beat.
One of the best meals in the city. Great for 2 or 20.
Laut is an excellent find. I highly suggest ordering something spicy. They can make anything spicy if wanted, which I highly recommend.
Pleasant service, warm decor, but my entree order was disappointing--lukewarm, soggy.
Great food and variety. Service is excellent and they are all about business. Clear soup was exceptionally well seasoned and noodle and rice dishes terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we were not rushed to leave.
Our food came out cold and so did the table next to ours. We all returned our food as the staff seemed ready to leave as it was only 1000pm on Saturday night. The roti was delicious but I see your restraunt closing soon if this continues in this city..
A good find in New York. Pleasant people make the already well prepared food even better. Good value and a little something different.
The food was great, and we loved the decor. Service was ok. Very loud place, though. Tables are crammed together and you can hear everyone talking around you. No privacy at all.
Food is very good. Service isn't great.
Perfect restaurant in union square for delicious Thai cuisine. Casual, lively neighborhood joint!
Amazing food, loved the ambience and creative menu
The Roti canai is amazing
Delicious. Made a reservation on open table and didn't have to wait for a table. Very fast service and the food was absolutely delicious. Waiters were attentive and topped up my water frequently which I really appreciated
The food is the star. A wide variety of Asian dishes each well prepared. Service is friendly but a bit off hand, like a lot of casual restaurants. The Thom Kha Gai soup was a real hit on a cold day. They are famous for their Chili crab which they make with soft shell crab in delicious spicy sauce. The place is noisy and a bit crowded, but the food is awesome and reasonably priced. It is definitely a fun place to go.
Chicken rice is always nice. Please bring back the fish ball dish!
Fun decor, casual and inviting ambiance. Food has various ethnic touches, with a mix of Singaporean, Malaysian, and Thai influence. Recommended for catching up w/ friends in a casual setting!
Great lunch! Business meeting over delicious food.
Excellent food, Service was responsive and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Everyone was happy with their meal choice along with sharing ability. Highly recommend.
Delicious Asian food, reasonably priced in a good location with easy access to public transportation. Service is fair to good. Staff could be more attentive.
I wish we had a different server. Sorry to say she was a little clueless about drinks and food on the menu.
We had a team of 10 people for a work event . The staff was great with recommendations and very accommodating. The Food was great as well. Everyone raved about it the next day - which was impressive since they never do. Great place .
I found this restaurant in a google search for good places to eat in Union Square and decided to try it. SO glad I did! The ambiance is casual and fun, the menu is really diverse and very reasonable price wise, the service was quick and friendly, and the food was very tasty and fresh. I also highly recommend the lychee martinis! I will definitely go back again!
