Laurenzo's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food here is always terrific, and the service is warm, friendly, and very accommodating. Our server on our most recent visit, Adam, was outstanding. An added bonus is that on Monday nights, bottles of wine are 50% off. This gives guests an opportunity to try something that might ordinarily be a little above their preferred price point. Overall, it always feels like everyone there goes above and beyond to ensure a great dining experience. Highly recommended.
AS ALWAYS, I FIND THIS RESTAURANT CONSISTENTLY GOOD WITH THEIR SPECIALTIES, WHICH ARE THE PRIME RIB, APPETIZERS AND ABOVE ALL ELSE, THE ITALIAN CREME CAKE. THE SERVICE IS FRIENDLY, WITHOUT BEING IN YOUR FACE, AND THE AMBIANCE IS COMFORTABLE WITHOUT BEING "KITCHY". THE WINE LIST IS EXPRESSIVE OF GOOD TASTE, YET IT WON'T BREAK THE BANK!
This was our first time and I have to say that although you were recommended by a couple people I found everything but the ambiance sub par. It started with our “seemingly annoyed” waiter “Dago” (I think that’s what his name was). He seemed to be annoyed with the fact that we asked if the pizza was good..... he replied with “well when we opened the restaurant we founded it on steak and seafood”. Well after that matter of fact statement of our waiter I was sure that my choice for the $41 ribeye! Well contrary to what the opinion of the waiter we went ahead and ordered the pizza for my fiancé. I mean, who would put a bad item on the menu and KEEP it on the menu if it was not good. I will say this, the BRIGHT side is that the Queso was really good... probably one of the best I’ve had in Houston. While waiting for our food I think our waiter came by maybe once and all the while i looked around and saw each other waiters actually look like they enjoyed their job but by the luck of the draw we got “mr personality”. Well our dinner finally came and honestly when the pizza came out it actually looked like it had been sitting out under the lamp for a long while. Cheese was not gooey or fresh it was more like a day old pizza in the fridge. Oh but the best is yet to come..... when my steak came out the steak was no thicker that a 1/2” AT BEST.... i didn’t think i was going to get an amazing thick high end steak as i would at Capital Grille but seriously i could have had the same exact steak for $25 at Saltgrass!!! Lastly when your waiter says that’s your specialty and the French fries have more flavor than the steak..... well that was the straw that broke the camels back. I am not one to send things back as i have worked in that field so i just sucked it up and ate and paid and even tipped well but I will not recommend nor give a great review. Funny think when we were leaving we say each table have a basket of bread on the table, but we were never offered that. Not happy.
We went for a mini reunion and on the reputation for Steak and Prime Rib. The steaks were great. The prime rib was a disappointment. for 32.00 we got a very small prime rib and while both ordered medium; one had a very well done piece and one had a rare piece. So, that was odd. We have been before and not been disappointed; so I would go again; but if you are going to have a reputation for prime rib, where we drive from all parts to get said prime rib; it should be consistently delicious or inform your clients you are "out".
Scheduled dinner early with two other friends. They said their meals were good, not exceptional or anything to write home about. Calimari was ok, gumbo ok; however,
I was in the mood for a Burger and it was a BIG disappointment. I asked for it well done and it was still pink in the middle; the lettuce, or watever green stuff was put on it for lettuce was awful . The Burger literally fell apart in my hands after I took one bite. For a $17 Burger, I expect excellence. This was mediocre at best. Won't go back.
While self-labeled a "Steakhouse" Lorenzo's is more of an everyday type eatery, nothing special but a good spot for "eating" not necessarily "dining". More along the lines of a Chili's or sports bar with a little better food. As expected, the Tex-Mex blends into the menu from the other members of this family owned local chain of restaurants, but with the addition of some "meat" and "fish" entrees.
Their flagship dish is their Prime Rib, which is good, but not to the caliber of typical steakhouses. When you consider a 16 oz. Prime Rib at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse is only $1 more than Lorenzo's and the quality is miles apart, you might reconsider your next Prime Rib Destination. Stick to their other entrees and you'll be much more pleased.
We started off with the Grilled Artichokes, which took me back to The Hitching Post II in Buellton. The were grilled perfectly with just the right amount of smoky flavor; a homerun. We had two, I suggest you get three; we are actually two or three "halves" not 2 or 3 whole artichokes. Also shared the Roasted Beet Salad, and the accommodated us by serving it in two plates without our asking. Salad was fresh with tasty roasted red beets.
I had the Pork Carne Asada "La Tana", and it was excellent. Tender pork charrasco style smoother in cheese and Serrano peppers; I asked for additional peppers and was glad I did so. The rice and beans that accompanied the pork wasn't worth the trouble, next time I'll ask for a substitute. My wife had the 8 oz. cut of Prime Rib, about 4 oz. of meat and 4 oz. of fat, which she doesn't care for. Prime Rib is always fatty, but this one was way heavy on the fatty compared to average.
Wine list is limited and carries the "X 2-1/2 to 3" markup on the majority of the wines on the list. Nothing notable about the wine list. Remember it's more like a Chili's with lipstick.
Greeters were not friendly at all. I was looking down at my phone and one of them just repeatedly barked hello at me to get my attention. Then as we were walking to the table the other greeter was very short and uncaring. I’ve been coming here for a while. Pretty disappointed.
Laurenzo's is just plain good.....good food, good service, good ambiance. We had our New Year's Eve dinner plans cancelled at the last minute and we're able to get an early evening reservation at Laurenzo's. They came through again with a top notch dining experience! I will be back....
When it was time to gather friends together for a holiday dinner, naturally we chose Laurenzo's. We've dined with friends there before and we love the place -- wonderful ambiance, tastey food and terrific wait staff. A great way to end 2017 -- and to get ready for 2018.
This was the worst dining experience I have ever had, Horrible service, wilted and slimy salads and steaks you need a chainsaw to cut through. Nothing was good here not even the desserts which were served already melted . The sever ignored us the entire night , no drink refills and never check on us once. Horrible experience we won't be back.
Service was too rushed. After placing our appetizer order, it was served in 2 minutes which did not allow us to breath let alone enjoy a cocktail. Moreover, you could tell all of these foods were pre-made and pre-plated and ready in a food “bank” of inventory (based on average number of each of these sold). We certainly did not feel like it was prepared fresh for us, just pulled from sheet pans on speed racks from a roll in refrigerator. The fish and chips were very odd and were served in finger shapes. I expected a couple nice wide and thick cod fillets but we were told it was red fish. If it was Red fish and I do not believe it was, the scraps were used as none were longer or wider than one’s index finger. Based on the rushed service, you could tell they were just trying to turn the tables to make more money. When it is that obvious, it does not lend itself to “an experience” and leans to an ordeal which I found stressful. I had even asked for a special table based on a very important circumstance, but we were not given anything special and no one informed the waiter of our situation. This is unacceptable and we just felt like a number being rushed through the process. Honestly, we could have spent a third of the money at Max’s, BB’s, Barnaby’s and had better food and service. Thanks sad. Regardless, we tipped 20% because the waiter tried but does not control the back of the house and we do not look for ways to cheat hard working staff that is being told what to do. Needless to say, we won’t be back and we spend a bloody fortune on dining out with cocktails and wine. Their loss.
We went for my birthday, which was noted on our reservation, but not one person acknowledged it. The caesar salad was better than average, and the lasagna was a respectable effort. My quail fajitas were quite good. Nothing was exceptional, and we may or may not be back.
Laurenzo's is unique in that there's menu selections for a number of different cuisines - Meat Lovers (famous for their prime rib, by the ounce, and baby back ribs), Seafood, Mexican, Italian, etc. There's usually something for everyone. And their sides are excellent, particularly the creamed sweet corn and buttered peas. Home baked bread and desserts are amazing. The Italian Cream Cake is spectacular.
