Created by the founders of El Tiempo Cantina, Houston’s First Family of Tex Mex, Laurenzo’s Restaurant features the other side of their family’s Italian, Mexican and American Culinary Heritage. The menu, one of the largest in the city, is packed with recipes dating back generations, and includes fresh Gulf Seafood, Prime Rib, and home-made pasta. If you’re in the mood for good ‘old home-style cooking’ made from scratch daily with the freshest of ingredients, then Laurenzo’s is your place. The family has been cooking with love in Houston for over three generations, just the way their matriarch Mama Ninfa Laurenzo taught them.

I love this restaurant. Great food with a varied menu (Italian, Mexican, seafood, prime rib and steaks, etc.). Everyone in our party could find something they enjoyed. Great prices, too. The staff is always friendly and you can see them laughing with each other--a great trait of a well-run restaurant. The bread and garlic butter is delicious. Wine by the bottle is 50 percent off on Mondays!!!! Plus they have a security guard that walked me to my car without my asking!

I was in the mood for a light dinner so I chose the large cup of Gumbo. It was superb and the first think I request when I come to Laurenzo's. I then went for my favorite two crab cakes as my main course with large Caesar Salad with Chicken strips. The salad was crisp and the grilled chicken delicious, but was disappointed with the crab cakes. They appeared to be mostly filler and not a lot of crab to it. I cannot recall the exact name of the dish my wife ordered, but it was an assorted red fish platter. I did sample a few bites of that and found it very tasty.

We came around 5:15 PM so we were able to have a nice, quiet dinner before we went to the play downtown.

Overall, except for the crab cakes, the dinner was excellent and the service first rate.

I've gone there twice this week. First time I had the crab cakes and a field green salad. Soooo yummy!! The second time I had the blackened red fish, it was so fresh and flaky!! Laurenzo's is a MUST!!

I always say, Laurenzo's has the best filet mignon in town! I still stand by that! It's perfect every time! From the melting butter on top to the perfect seasoning! I can't go here and order anything else! Also, they serve the best creamed corn I ever tasted! WOW! their newest dessert, the Panna Cotta, is very delicious too. You must try it.

Went to Laurenzo's with out of town friends. Two things made me choose this over El Tiempo. First, same family. Second, I could make a reservation. Reviews were mostly pretty positive. One had the Redfish Pontchartrain. Nice portion with shrimp and mushrooms in a sauce. Good flavor. I had shrimp and grits. High quality. Good amount of shrimp. The grits were in a fried cake and really good. The sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, but everyone else at the table thought it was great. The other dish was off the Italian menu, Sunday Gravy. Nice bowl of what may have been fresh pasta, an assortment of meats like meatball, big chunks of pepperoni. Sauce was considerably better than this transplant from the Northeast who is accustomed to some excellent Italian food expected. I would actually probably order Italian when I go back. Nice atmosphere. We could actually talk to each other on a busy Saturday night. Wine selection is adequate but could use some serious upgrading. A whole section of the menu devoted to Italian food and not one Italian wine. Waiter was on point and had a good sense of humor. Definitely would recommend and go back.

Our waiter, Armando, was excellent. The support staff was too. Redfish Ponchatrain was excellent. Fried Shrimp & Oysters delicious and large. The Seafood Gumbo was a great disappointment: roux was not the flavor of south LA, but the "seafood" was ridiculously tiny or non-existent. After showing the waiter the teeny pieces of the few seafood, a kitchen person brought a 1/2 cup portion of the same tiny pieces. Amazingly inappropriate for a restaurant of this quality and higher price range. We give it a four for all the great reasons mentioned. Just don't order the gumbo.

Our server, Dennis, was excellent. He listened and understood that one of our guests had a severe allergy to spices and he took special care to ensure her food was perfect - and it did not disappoint. I was undecided as to which "topping" I wanted for my pan seared fish so I asked Dennis his recommendation. He gave me options, including "he could surprise me" - but yet he prefaced that by asking if I minded "spicy" - and that too did not disappoint as I chose to let him surprise me and was served the Durango - it was spectacular! The strawberry pie - left me speechless! What a great way to spend our 19th wedding anniversary. We will be back!

Very extensive menu, maybe the most complete in the city. Everything from prime rib, to mexican, italian, and cajun. So certainly something for everyone. I would say the food is above average, but not the top of the line and with so extensive a menu it may depend on what you choose. My wedge salad had a very good dressing, but the tomatoes were so/so. My Ponchitrain fish was excellent, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the toppings and sauce were very good, similar with one of our other friends who had another fish dish. The prime rib was a 8 out of 10, very good but not the very best. While I offer some criticism, at the same time you are not paying Brenner's prices, so it is good value for what you get. Our server was very good, nice personality, attentive, fun.

I'd eaten at Laurenzo's several times at lunch - but this was my first evening dining experience and my husband's first Laurenzo's experience. He is already looking for opportunities to go back! I think it will be his mission to try EVERY item on the menu! The ambiance is spot on, the food is beyond delicious and the service, impeccable. We had a " high end" dining experience, in a non-pretentious, dressed nice, but not fancy, atmosphere. We will be recommending it to friends. We will be taking every advantage to plan occasion to be in the area at meal time!

We have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. A special thanks to Marcos in helping me with my wife's flowers. Also to Armando who was our server that night, which was the day after Valentine's day. We shared a bowl of clam chowder, which is a must; we order it just about every visit.
She had the lemon butter pan fried redfish and I had the filet. Both were perfect. We chose not to have dinner as it would have been too much.
