Overall very good
Laurel remains one of the most extraordinarily original and creative restaurants in Philadelphia. I always leave a meal there with an entirely new perspective on the experience of dining out.
The service and the food are both impeccable - I can’t wait to come back. (I’ll have to save my pennies, but it will be absolutely worth it, just like it was this time.)
Fantastic all around
Exquisite creative food preparation served by a knowledgable staff who project enjoying what they do and working effectively as a team. I will highly recommend dinign here for friends who genuinely appreciate what the artistry of cuisine could be. AND IT TASTED GREAT TOO.
Outstanding!!! The food was out of this world! Drinks were amazing!
The service was impeccable! A must go to! Incredible experience. Definitely will return.
Amazing food, lovely setting.
Absolutely amazing! Each course was better than the next. The wine pairing is completely worth the money. Joey was an absolute gem. Incredibly knowledgeable with each dish being served and very personable. The highlight of the meal was the wagu beef course. I will dream about that beef for the foreseeable future. We cannot wait to go back!!
Absolutely deliciously outstanding!
We went for my husband‘s birthday, every course is a work of art,and the flavors were amazing, though they are small. I was satisfied but my husband was still hungry. So if you are a big eater this might not be the place for you. The service was very good and Pleasant.
Great good, very uniq textures and flavors.
Laurel is a superb food and dining experience. Have been 3 times and have always been wowed at every course. It’s pricey but you get value for your dollar. Highly recommend.
Creative menu and very accommodating and knowledgeable service staff made for a personable and exciting dining experience. Dishes were delivered and described by the cooks and chefs themselves which allowed for a course by course interaction. Loved that the dishes were presented creatively but the sauces that complemented them were classic French with a twist. Very disciplined with an asian touch to many dishes. Can't wait to return and I would highly recommend.
Nice ambience and staff
The food explanation was not too good. They all mumbled something and not too clear.
The wine is poured off the bottle and not consistent amount is poured especially when one gets the last serving from the bottle. When one is paying per glass, it needs to be measured.
For people who have food restrictions, this is not great.
I did not like eating Quail and it looked too much like eating a bird.
So it is not for every one given the price.
Very disappointed about overall service and food. Food was not meeting my expectation and my previous experience at Laurel. Wines were served at wrong temp, service was mediocre. Servers were confused. For the price I paid, what a waste
Could not have selected a better restaurant than Laurel to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. The food was creative, exceptionally presented and delicious. Service was exceptional. The wine pairing was perfect as well. Highly recommend Laurel!
I had a nice meal here, and they accommodated my dietary restrictions well. (Pescatarian) The only thing I wish Id been made aware of was that when we booked our seats at the bar I didnt realize there was no designated bartender. The "bar" seats are just at the bar counter but the bartender/server had tables outside and in the dining room so he wasnt always present. When he was he was wonderful. It just so happened that we were the only ones at the bar so we were often in a room alone which wasnt the vibe we'd had in mind when we booked bar seats. Anyway the maple mousse caviar egg thing was one of the best things Ive ever put in my mouth.
Really enjoyed the chef's menu. Fantastic cocktails to start and did the wine pairing, which was spot on. Service was great too.
We were there for our birthdays. Have been here many times before. We love the staff, the food and atmosphere!
Wonderful! Our waiter Joey was very knowledgeable about both the regular, extra and vegetarian-substituted menus. Great ambiance! We’d love to come back soon! Thanks for making my husband’s birthday so special!
Wonderful food, outstanding service, lovely ambience. A great place for a celebration dinner.
Unexpectedly awesome ... 1st time at Laurel, Christmas gift from my millennial daughter, we had somewhat of an idea what to expect since we had the Laurel book. Theresa, our initial server with radiant smile, direct eye contact and graceful table presence greeted us, man with an apron, new sneakers and a day's worth of beard, silent type - delivered the courses to our table. We tried unsuccessfully to engage him one time but he was on a mission. The next day we realized it was the owner. Ain't cheap but we plan to return cause the courses were so cool.
Overall a wonderful experience, great for foodies.
As always, we were totally blown away by our recent dinner at Laurel (June, 2021). Every time we go, the tasting menu is incredibly creative, entertaining, and delicious. Each course was a home run in its own right, and they also worked with each other and with the wine pairing perfectly. Ambience and service were also A+++. So happy they made it through the pandemic. We hope to come back to our favorite restaurant soon!
It’s a price fixed menu - all a mystery - dishes are not well described by the staff ( you need to ask lots of questions to find out what you’re eating) and you leave hungry - we had to go out fir a bite immediately upon leaving
Our six-course chef's tasting menu was beautifully orchestrated from the start. We were seated with a gracious welcome, and introduced to our waiter. Each course was timed to arrive just as we finished the previous one, but never in a way that made us feel rushed. The wait staff worked together seamlessly. Every dish was not only delicious, but also beautiful, with flavors and colors that could only be assembled by a skilled master chef. We opted for the wine pairings, which I would advise - they were another whole tasting adventure. We had opted for an outdoor table, which would have been a great dinner location if the weather hadn't been so hot that day. Overall, a great experience.
Definitely a celebration location for the couple. and we were celebrating. We had a dinner we would most likely never order out with 6 courses (snails, Caviar, Fluke )plus and added Waygu special that came with the 5th Course. We added the cocktail and wine pairing the dinner and everything was over the top. It was a great experience and if you are adventurous knowing that Elmi’s flavors are fantastic, the entertainment value of not knowing what’s coming next was fantastic. One dish was better than the next, the topper was the 3oz Waygu special cut into 4 that my wife and i shared. it was $75 added and hard for me to say $75 for 3 oz of anything was worth it, but it absolutely was. Book and enjoy.
Laurel was the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary dinner.
The food was incredible (thank you, kitchen staff), and the staff were friendly, professional, and exceptionally knowledgeable—especially our server Joey, great guy.
I would eat at Laurel every day if I could, ha.
The chef and his team put together an immaculate prix fixe menu that got better and better as the courses went on.
Do yourself a favor. Get to Laurel.
We love Laurel and we’re so happy to return after we were fully vaccinated. The food, service and staff are all beyond compare, and the wine pairing was perfectly matched. So grateful to break our pandemic fast at Laurel!
We ate outside by choice. It was chilly and rainy but we were warm and dry thanks to the heaters. A lovely way to return to restaurant dining!
I LOVE IT SO MUCH
One of Philly's best. Heck, maybe one of the best anywhere. Wonderful explanations of each fascinating dish and the wine to go with it.
Each course was delicious beyond belief. The egg custard with caviar and just perfectly baked brioche was sublime. Each course built to a finale of refreshing dessert with of course a sweet chocolate treated followed by a delicious gummy bear. Superb!
Laurel will be one of the best meals of your life.
Excellent meal and a wonderful way to reenter the indoor dining world! We had the wine pairing with the meal. The wine selections were excellently matched, but we found that the proportion of wine to food was too much. A bit more food, a bit less wine would have made this a better value.
Absolutely fantastic. It was our 2nd time. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the service is top notch. The food is incredible. It’s not something you can do every day but it is a great special occasion dinner that really should be experienced.
The service was amazing! The food was out of this world. Even though we ate in the park let right in East Passyunk the experience still felt very intimate and high end. Joe was a great server and everyone else helped make our anniversary special. Definitely get the Waygu!
It was a journey through haute cuisine! Outstanding!
Try the cocktails too, very modern and creative. Definitely will be back.
The food was very good until the pork dish and the Wagyu beef supplemental. They were both “meh.” We had a supplemental snow beef Wagyu earlier in the week at Morimoto that was excellent.
Laurel was our fourth tasting menu meal in Philadelphia this week, and there was not one dish that made us go “wow,” whereas there had been in the other establishments.
Service was good but not the level of professionalism that one would expect from such an establishment. We were not invited to have other drinks or even coffee after the main dinner. We asked for a drink, and received it. The bill came right away. We also found the pours in the pairings to be small, as well as the pours for the cognac and the after dinner cocktail.
Laurel is good, but please forgive the pun, I believe that it is reading on its laurels.
Laurel was one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, anywhere. Highly recommend, will be going back.
