The flagship tasting menu restaurant from Chef Nicholas Elmi, Laurel offers approachable fine dining in a comfortable South Philly space. Inspired by French techniques, our 6-course tasting menu is offered for $135 per person. Optional luxury menu supplements, as well as a curated beverage pairing, full wine list, and signature cocktails are available to compliment your experience.
This menu is the sole dining option whether you choose to dine indoors, outdoors or in our bar/lounge area. Our chef’s table, a semi-private outdoor courtyard seated once per night for parties of 4-8, is the ultimate behind-the scenes experience. Inquiries regarding the chef’s table must be made via phone. Service was great. Presentation of food creative and cool. Flavors and overall taste of good average at best. Extremely overpriced for what you get. Absolutely not worth 400 dollars. Four small bites of wagu beef that was supposed to be the “star” of the evening was average at best. Not worth $75.
Expectations were high indeed. Fare was tasty, leaning toward exhibitionism. A little strange were some of the dishes, I have to report, like the veal covered in carbon.

The food here -- and the food presentation -- is outstanding. Beautiful, locally sourced ingredients, inventive creations, utterly delicious, AND surprising. The challenge we had was two-fold: first, the ambience of the place doesn't do the food justice. It feels more like a neighborhood bistro, including wobbly, cheap-feeling tables, than the world-class eatery that it is; second, after paying an additional $75 premium for wagyu steak on top of the fixed price tasting menu ($135 pp), it was unceremoniously served alongside the last savory dish, a pan roasted venison with black cherry jus (which was phenomenal). The two dishes were not complementary, and should be have been served consecutively, not in tandem (we didn't even get a clean plate). Also, no paired wine was served with the wagyu (nor offered at the time we ordered), and the wine accompanying the venison was struggling to hold its own with that dish, and totally unequipped to match the wagyu. To be fair, after we alerted the staff to how awkward we felt this was (in what had up 'til then been a great eating experience), they remedied it. But it was done gracelessly, and from our perspective, grudgingly. When a new wine was brought to the table for the wagyu, it was tossed rather than poured into the glass, with a big slosh landing both on the table and in the dish containing the meat. The server walked away and left it there. Deliberate or careless? We couldn't tell for sure, but it felt strange, and cast a pall on the entire rest of the evening. We also felt like second class citizens after that -- where once we'd received warm and inviting service, we felt like we were now getting the cool brush-off. Our tab with added premiums (including wine) was a whopping $700, sans gratuity. And we were fine with the prices -- the quality of the food warranted the price tag, and let me reiterate, the food was phenomenally good. But the rest? Not so much. :-(

This was our first time at Laurel. We had the tasting menu with wine accompaniment. The service was great and the presentation lovely.
Although the food was well done, portions are quite small and overall, dinner which costed $600 for two people is a bit extreme.
The food was exquisite. Our server Kate so very knowledgeable and willing to accommodate us to make our experience perfect. I look forward to visiting Philadephia again and returning to a dinning treat.
This was my first jaunt to Laurel, and it won't be the last! The place had a casual buzz with cozy upholstered chairs you could sink into. What better way to start a meal? As soon as we got comfortable, an array of stunningly plated dishes inspired by local, seasonal ingredients started coming from the kitchen. Laurel is currently offering a six-course tasting menu. The parade began with an amuse bouche of sweet potato crips with hibiscus mousse - tiny bite with enormous flavor! The next course of l'Arpege Egg, Bowfin Caviar and Sourdough Brioche was a treat - the egg was prepared masterfully with subtle maple nuances. But, the butter-fried brioche was the real guilty pleasure! The Autumn Poultry Sausage, Castel Valley Rye, Honeynut Squash Custard, Husk Cherries was served on a bed of smoking hay - providing a full sensory experience for the eye, nose and palate. The miso-crusted veal mimicked a charcoal briquet, until you cut into it - perfectly pink and moist. Malted Ice Cream, Chocolate Cremeaux, Coffee, Meringue - provided the show-stopping end. Warm and fed, we emerged from the restaurant to brace the Autumn chill in Philadelphia. Enjoy!
The food here was simply phenomenal! Flavors that you would never expect to go together blended so elegantly with each other, and each course was easily one of the best things we have ever had the pleasure of eating. They were also able to accommodate my husband's food allergy!

Dined here at Laurel within the last three months or so, and again, was not disappointed. There seem to be constant changes to the menu, more so seasonally. Irrespective of that, they continue to push all the right buttons here. It is truly an experience in fine dining, without any aire of pretentiousness. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Stars of the 6 course offering; they're all wonderful, created to build on the previous dish. Cured Local Tuna (don't forget to use your spoon for the magnificent broth) starts you off, followed by what seems to be a house staple Egg L'Arpege. It's a Faberge egg lookalike filled with Bowfin Caviar, Maple Egg Mouse, served with a to die for Sourdough Brioche. In succession, we had Brown Butter Roasted Monkfish, Autumn Poultry Sausage served with honeynut Squash Custard, Local Rye, and Fermented Husk Cherries (killer). Our last course before dessert was Slow Roasted Veal, eggplant miso, smoked barley, and blackened cherries. It was simply outstanding. The Coup de Grace was, to date, the best dessert I've enjoyed in quite some time. the description of it on the menu doesn't do it justice. Such an outstanding evening at Laurel. Kudos to the kitchen and the wonderful waitstaff. We'll be back.

Four of the six courses were outstanding. one was not very good (sun flower seeds did not work with the dish) and the desert was delicious, but not outstanding. when a restaurant offers a $130 pp tasting menu, the restaurant should not then offer an "additional" menu item for $85. we ordered it, and it was the most delicious course, but raise the prices if we need to, and cut out one of the other items. it was too much food with 7 courses.
We celebrated my husbands birthday and had a wonderful dinner outside with the fire heater. Everything was incredible.
I loved the understated feel of the dining room. The entire experience was perfectly upscale yet also comfortably casual and relaxed. We dined here while traveling and upon returning home I raved about the food to practically anyone that would listen. I encourage anyone interested in Laurel to just go ahead and book the reservation.

Laurel always delivers on food and on service. I choose to sit outside, which is very nice on these autumn evenings but also opens the door to car sounds and passersby. I think the "best" Laurel experience is when the diner also takes advantage of the more controlled, deliberatly graceful indoor setting. But either way...it is a must do for anyone who cares about food and the whole experience of first class hospitality

6 course tasting menu from one of the best chefs in the country? It was a phenomenal sensory experience. The bass was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. The flavors were captivating. Really nice touch sharing a copy of the menu at the end of the meal. I really wanted a copy and loved that it had already been thought of. A wonderful experience from start to finish.
The variety of tastes, innovative presentations, paired wines were exquisite. Truly a dining experience. We sat outside preferring the street noise and hustle and bustle. the interior ambience looked stunning. It was difficult to hear the presentation of courses and their history by the waiters because of being outside and them wearing masks. The written menu at the end was very helpful. It will go in my scrapbook as probably the best meal I’ve had in my 70 years.
Expensive for sure. 6 course tasting menu was only offering. That being said, food was really, really good. Joey, our main server was great. He was able to tell a story with each course and the beverage pairing to tie it together. Everyone made sure guest came first. Overall had a great experience. Would definitely recommend and look forward to dining here again.
Not a ‘foodie’ by any means but always up for something new and tasty. Recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! Pricey with the wine pairing but definitely all worth it. Would go a million times again

This was only our second time eating at Laurel. We had the wine pairings with our meal. It was a wonderful meal with excellent attentive service. Yes it was a bit pricey but it was a special occasion (a birthday) so why not splurge? We were outside yet the wait staff all wore masks and we appreciated their concern for our health and safety. The meal itself was extraordinary; the chef is very inventive and the execution was superlative. Bravo!
The food is creative without being fussy, delicious and uses luxury ingredients. It is beautifully presented. It is just excellent without being pretentious.

Absolutely superb dinner. Innovative creations, tastes, textures, presentations. Quality is beyond prime. Service and knowledge of what is on the plates and in your glasses just sensational. Chef Elmi and his outstanding team are worthy of Michelin recognition. We drive from New York to eat here. If you are a foodie and it is within your means, I strongly urge you to treat yourself.
This was my third time dining at Laurel, and even with very high expectations Laurel once again exceeded them. Chef Elmi’s work is aging like a fine wine. The food was the best meal I’ve ever had. Thanks for making my birthday unforgettable.
