LaScala's - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
La Scala's was very accommodating as we showed up an hour and a half early for our reservation as our plans had changed. They figured it out and seated us shortly after we arrived. The food was very authentic Italian with numerous choices for everyone. The atmosphere was very nice and the table and chairs were very comfortable after walking around the city in the cold. The wait staff was very attentive but not too attentive. Over all, we had a very nice meal in a very nice Italian restaurant and the pricing was very reasonable.
We arrived 20 min early for our reservation and were seated immediately. Luigi our water was fantastic. He handled multiple tables while maintaining quick service and fun rapport . Portions were big and the food was phenomenal. The bread.was to die for. We shared polenta to start, it was creamy and delicious. My husband and the pork chop while I had the Bronzino which was filleted table side. So good! Will definitely be coming back.
Restaurant had great atmosphere. Decorated warm and friendly. We were seated right away. Was not crowded. Took our waiter about ten minutes to take our drink order. Another 15 just to bring a Shirley Temple and a glass of house Cabernet. I looked around to see if it was the crowd but it looked normal to me. Nothing crazy. Once our drinks were brought to us our waiter left and it was another 10 min before he took out appetizer order. Once it was taken, we received our food quickly. Dinner also came out quickly but by another server. Our waiter never came to our table to ask how we were. Never asked if we needed a refill on our drinks and we never saw him again till I asked if we could have our check because we had theater tickets. I worked in the food service industry for years. I know how hectic things can be especially around the holidays but at 6 pm on a Friday Lascala was not THAT crowded. I also noticed a few other tables experiencing the same problem. A couple with their sons waiting a long time for just a drink order. I also made my reservations on the Open Table App and a half hour into my meal someone called my phone from the restaurant asking if I was coming still. I told them I've been here for a half hour. Could have been just a bad night. I won't NOT come back and I'll hope the service would be better next time.
Usually have a great meal at LaScala. We have been coming for at least 8 years. This visit was a big disappointment. Our server was very efficient & kind, but the kitchen team was having an off night. My husband & daughter ordered the veal. Both veal dishes ordered - 3 tiny pieces of veal - really tiny. It was actually ridiculous at the price being charged. The veal had
lots of capers and small amount of mushrooms pieces. Pasta was not Al dente and seemed a bit over cooked. I had the lobster ravioli. Big Disappointment. Ravioli would have been decent, but covered in a thick cheesy-ish type sauce. It was menu-described as lobster suace, but I don't even know what it was.
My son had the gnocchi, and they too were not up to par, (thick & though) although the alfredo/gorganzola sauce was very good.
Appetizers were their Long hots & they were awesome. Best part of the meal. All chesses were topshelf and the marinara was very good. Sorry. We will be back because we have had so many good meals in the past, and hopefully the kitchen will be back on track.
The food was delicious and our service was outstanding. However, as the whole restaurant is rather small the noise of the bar easily overtakes the entire room and makes it difficult to hold a conversation. The food also seemed slightly overpriced for the menu options. I believe I could find the same food for cheaper somewhere else.
For what I was after, the restaurant worked. I went there with a friend to eat before going to a piano recital at the American Philosophical Society a few blocks away. The food was not bad, and the linguine was very good, but there was too much of it. I could not take a doggie bag because I was going to a concert.
My only real complaint is that the menu posted online was outdated. Prices were higher and some of the selections had changed.
It was my first time at La Scala and, hopefully, will not be my last. Found this place by accident while walking around the area. Read the menu in the window and decided this was the place to have a late lunch/early dinner before a show.
The grilled salmon with spinach and potatoes was very tasty. Be aware - portion size is quite large. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Highly recommend.
Food was excellent. The restaurant was very busy and it seemed that our server was rushed. He told us our drinks were slow because the bartender was backed up. We weren’t offered refills other then for water. The free parking is a great perk. Despite the service issues, I would return. The food was really good and it was a nice place to have conversation and we didn’t feel rushed at all.
Slow service, they messed up my order and the replacement dish took so long to come others in my party were almost done with their dinners so I sent it back. Manager did try to make it right with a round of drinks deducted. Others did enjoy their food but this was a one time visit for me.
This was our first time at the restaurant and the food was good. The portions were really large, except for the ravioli which were only four regular sized ones. Most of us enjoyed our entrees, but the seafood fra diavolo was extremely spicy. We specifically asked if it was very hot and they said no. My husband tasted it and said even he thought it was extremely spicy (he likes things very, very spicy). Overall we all thought the food was descent.
Because its was thangiving night, there was a set menu which is fine but the chicken we premade or microwaved because it was rubbery. Our table ordered 5 chicken dishes and each one was the same rubbery texture. They ran out of the cobbler dessert which was odd since we were there at 5pm. Best was the warm rolls.
We were visiting from out of town and the hotel mentioned this as one of the restaurants close to the hotel. Our server was cheerful and reasonably helpful. The arugula salad and the beet & goat cheese salad were decent, but the entrees (veal marsala and veal saltimbuca) were not very appealing in appearance, and were overcooked and not particularly tasteful. It was pleasant enough, with a noise level that permitted conversation.
This is my favorite restaurant in the City! The food is always delicious and the service is great! Plus the free parking pass for the nearby lot makes it worthwhile to go into the city! This time we shared the fried calamari appetizer and then we both had the fusilli seafood entree, but instead of fusilli pasta we had whole wheat penne pasta! The calamari was incredible and the batter was so light & flavorful! The entree was truly amazing! The vodka blush sauce had an awesome taste and the seafood was plentiful!
I had the pork chop with hot cherry peppers & it was so tender and delicious. My cousin had the salmon and she really liked it and our friend had the fusilli with the seafood she also liked it. We also had the fried calamari which was very tender and the roasted beet salad which I get every time I go there, It's so good. We shared the tiramisu also delicious. Never had a bad meal.
We were a party of six seated at 6:00. We had tickets for the theater at 8:00. We do this several times a year with no problem, but last Saturday (10/21) the service was poor. There was a large party occupying a big chunk of the restaurant, and I guess this caused the problem. We ordered at about 6:10, got our appetizers fairly quickly, but main courses came after 7:00. One diner got part of her dinner later, and then another part came even later. This is not typical, but management needed to either: close the restaurant except for the party, adapt to the large party with extra staff, or let regular diners know that service would be slow and they should come early if necessary to meet a time deadline.
The food was excellent as usual; but we felt rushed and didn't have time for coffee or dessert.
