LaScala's - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
Came here on a date. I ordered the seafood fradiavlo which isn’t a dish I’d usually order given it’s spicey flavor, but it was delicious. Instead of ordering dessert from a menu the waiter presented us with a pan filled with different kinds and we picked from there. Will come again.
We went here on a Saturday for dinner. There were not many people there but our waiter seemed to be waiting on too many tables. They seemed to be short staffed. Our waiter, Joe, was not attentive and barely spoke to us. We ordered glasses of wine and it took 15 minutes for him to bring them to us. We also ordered calamari for an appetizer and it took 35 minutes for us to get it. When it finally arrived, it was cold. Our entrees took another half hour to come out and I was not impressed with the lobster ravioli. Not sure if I will be returning.
We ate here with friends for New Year's Eve. First for the pros: the space is lovely, we could easily hear each other talking, the wine list was varied and interesting, and our server was professional and helpful. Now the cons: When we arrived at exactly the time of our reservation the waitress told us "We're really booked so it will be a while." I thought she had misunderstood that we had a reservation, so when I mentioned that she responded with: "So does everyone else, and they're all waiting too." She never apologized, or acknowledged that they didn't have a table ready, and was verging on rude in her response. Really unpleasant. As it turned out we were seated within ten minutes of arriving, in a room with at least 7 empty tables. Bizarre. Re: the food, the polenta appetizer was delicious as were the baby artichokes. The salad was mediocre. Two of us enjoyed our entrees (both chicken dishes) and two were not happy (a goat cheese pasta dish that was "basic" and a salmon dish that was "overcooked"). Overall not sure I'd return. So many wonderful restaurants to choose from.
Went here for New Years with my girlfriend. Honestly, the food was very good. However, the service was very poor. It took us over 20 minutes to get a drink, and it was after our meal was served which became pointless. It wasn’t even crowded his evening, and it was New Years. Also, they charged us 70 dollars for 2 old fashioned and 2 vodka’s on the rocks. That is honestly ridiculous. It was Tito’s vodka! Overall, good was great but not worth the price tag.
We just happened upon this wonderful restaurant by accident on a family trip to Philadelphia. We were so impressed with the food, service and being family friendly. It has a very classy feel. The food is wonderfully authentic true Italian. It’s the best cannoli I’ve ever had and I grew up in the NYC area and best Tiramisu. I could go on. We loved it and would definitely go back another time.
Great Family atmosphere! Our family enjoyed the dinner bread and had the waiter bring multiple baskets of it. My husband had the lobster ravioli which were flavorful, rich, and filling. I had the fresh pasta entree which was really tasty and wonderful! I recommend this restaurant and it’s friendly
My adult children & I dined there on Christmas Eve at 6. I decided to go out mid week instead of cooking. I stumbled upon this restaurant as all my favorite restaurants were already booked. I liked that it featured Italian pasta dishes as my daughter doesn't eat meat or seafood. The bonus was they offered free parking which is ridiculously priced in center city & at times, is a deal breaker.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was slow and it wasn't that busy. Our waiter never checked on how we found the food or whether we required anything else. The server was more mindful. Due to season, I left over a 20% tip, but service did not meet my standards.
Always a great experience at LaScalas, whether you sit at the bar or at a table, you'll get excellent service! Our server even brought out some home- made Lemoncello on the house!Lots of appetizers to choose from and delicious dinner entres at reasonable prices!
We arrived on time for our reservation but the host was running around trying to help the wait staff. We finally were checked in, but waited a while until we were attended to, which is something I read on the comments prior to arrriving. Our waiter was very nice, but you could tell he was the only one working or the restaurant was short staffed. It took a while to get our drinks and appetizers. Everything was just ok. Pretty disappointing for a Sunday night family dinner
LaScala’s is always a favorite go-to! It’s the perfect place for my family and I to dine when they’re in town. As always, we left stuffed and with leftovers for the next day.
The staff were pleasant and attentive! Food portions are amazing for the price, and you’ll most likely leave with food!
La Scala's was very accommodating as we showed up an hour and a half early for our reservation as our plans had changed. They figured it out and seated us shortly after we arrived. The food was very authentic Italian with numerous choices for everyone. The atmosphere was very nice and the table and chairs were very comfortable after walking around the city in the cold. The wait staff was very attentive but not too attentive. Over all, we had a very nice meal in a very nice Italian restaurant and the pricing was very reasonable.
We arrived 20 min early for our reservation and were seated immediately. Luigi our water was fantastic. He handled multiple tables while maintaining quick service and fun rapport . Portions were big and the food was phenomenal. The bread.was to die for. We shared polenta to start, it was creamy and delicious. My husband and the pork chop while I had the Bronzino which was filleted table side. So good! Will definitely be coming back.
Restaurant had great atmosphere. Decorated warm and friendly. We were seated right away. Was not crowded. Took our waiter about ten minutes to take our drink order. Another 15 just to bring a Shirley Temple and a glass of house Cabernet. I looked around to see if it was the crowd but it looked normal to me. Nothing crazy. Once our drinks were brought to us our waiter left and it was another 10 min before he took out appetizer order. Once it was taken, we received our food quickly. Dinner also came out quickly but by another server. Our waiter never came to our table to ask how we were. Never asked if we needed a refill on our drinks and we never saw him again till I asked if we could have our check because we had theater tickets. I worked in the food service industry for years. I know how hectic things can be especially around the holidays but at 6 pm on a Friday Lascala was not THAT crowded. I also noticed a few other tables experiencing the same problem. A couple with their sons waiting a long time for just a drink order. I also made my reservations on the Open Table App and a half hour into my meal someone called my phone from the restaurant asking if I was coming still. I told them I've been here for a half hour. Could have been just a bad night. I won't NOT come back and I'll hope the service would be better next time.
Usually have a great meal at LaScala. We have been coming for at least 8 years. This visit was a big disappointment. Our server was very efficient & kind, but the kitchen team was having an off night. My husband & daughter ordered the veal. Both veal dishes ordered - 3 tiny pieces of veal - really tiny. It was actually ridiculous at the price being charged. The veal had
lots of capers and small amount of mushrooms pieces. Pasta was not Al dente and seemed a bit over cooked. I had the lobster ravioli. Big Disappointment. Ravioli would have been decent, but covered in a thick cheesy-ish type sauce. It was menu-described as lobster suace, but I don't even know what it was.
My son had the gnocchi, and they too were not up to par, (thick & though) although the alfredo/gorganzola sauce was very good.
Appetizers were their Long hots & they were awesome. Best part of the meal. All chesses were topshelf and the marinara was very good. Sorry. We will be back because we have had so many good meals in the past, and hopefully the kitchen will be back on track.
The food was delicious and our service was outstanding. However, as the whole restaurant is rather small the noise of the bar easily overtakes the entire room and makes it difficult to hold a conversation. The food also seemed slightly overpriced for the menu options. I believe I could find the same food for cheaper somewhere else.
For what I was after, the restaurant worked. I went there with a friend to eat before going to a piano recital at the American Philosophical Society a few blocks away. The food was not bad, and the linguine was very good, but there was too much of it. I could not take a doggie bag because I was going to a concert.
My only real complaint is that the menu posted online was outdated. Prices were higher and some of the selections had changed.
It was my first time at La Scala and, hopefully, will not be my last. Found this place by accident while walking around the area. Read the menu in the window and decided this was the place to have a late lunch/early dinner before a show.
The grilled salmon with spinach and potatoes was very tasty. Be aware - portion size is quite large. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Highly recommend.
Food was excellent. The restaurant was very busy and it seemed that our server was rushed. He told us our drinks were slow because the bartender was backed up. We weren’t offered refills other then for water. The free parking is a great perk. Despite the service issues, I would return. The food was really good and it was a nice place to have conversation and we didn’t feel rushed at all.
Slow service, they messed up my order and the replacement dish took so long to come others in my party were almost done with their dinners so I sent it back. Manager did try to make it right with a round of drinks deducted. Others did enjoy their food but this was a one time visit for me.
This was our first time at the restaurant and the food was good. The portions were really large, except for the ravioli which were only four regular sized ones. Most of us enjoyed our entrees, but the seafood fra diavolo was extremely spicy. We specifically asked if it was very hot and they said no. My husband tasted it and said even he thought it was extremely spicy (he likes things very, very spicy). Overall we all thought the food was descent.
