The service and atmosphere at LaScala’s were okay but the food was very disappointing. Everything we ordered tasted very bland. We ordered the calamari based on another review, but found it to lack flavor. We then both had veal dishes - piccata and Marsala and the sauces were not at all good - lacked flavor. Overall a disappointing meal and I would not recommend this restaurant. The marinara sauce with the calamari was good, so maybe if you stay with dishes that have that, you’ll be okay.
My salmon was completely dried out. Way to overcooked
Myself and entire group loved the food and ambiance of the restaurant. Will definitely return soon for dinner or another occasion. The waitress was awesome and the gentlemen working there were as well.
Perfect!!! Meat Trois!!! Kevin the waiter is highly recommended
Great experience and the perfect location for a tourist staying near Independence Hall!
We had a great server, Phil who was so very attentive to our group for all of our needs. We were a few minutes late for our reservation which was at 4pm for a business related meeting. Our table was perfect for our meeting, the place was fairly quiet for awhile. The food was amazing (the gnocchi was incredible, the salads a great portion.) we had a wonderful experience with wonderful service! Thank you!
Enjoyed dinner and the atmosphere. Great service. Would definitely recommend.
Great service. Really good food. Big portions. I would definitely return.
Service was amazing as well as the food. everything tasted so fresh. this was our first time here and we were very impressed. the parmesan crusted artichokes for appetizer - highly recommend! impeccable experience!
Our first visit to this spot (in the historic district of Philly) was great. We appreciated the varied menu with several offerings new to us. The quality of food and service were all quite good. We'll be back!
Hadn't been to La Scala for a few years. They've upgrades their beer list (now having IPAs) and the wine list is pretty decent. The calamari was cooked perfectly, as always, but a bit under seasoned. Fantastic soup and salad. Gnochi was really dense and not as we recalled from prior visits - light as air; so maybe it was an off night. Nevertheless, we'll definitely go back. The service was attentive, good drinks, and nice food.
Great food, great service and plenty of time to talk with our guests
came there with my children for restaurant week and we loved it. they are very difficult to please so was very happy for their review. The free parking was a plus. then again on Thursday with friends from NJ and they also truly enjoyed all of it. will be back again.
Food is always flavorful and not bland. Great ambiance.
The staff was great and the restaurant was comfortable and clean. The food was very good, but not great, but the portions were large so overall great value.
Delicious food and drinks and great service !
Very mediocre Italian restaurant. Definitely not a place I’d go again. Pizza sauce looked and tasted like it came out of a can. Ricotta board was good though
Love that the restaurant honors a reservation on a Saturday night. That's always a good beginning.
This is not my first time at La Scala, and I can say they are consistently good in both a service and food.
We are usually a group of 6-8, and they always get the order right. Great choice for before the theater.
My husband and I were seated next to a table of unsupervised children. They were loud and obnoxious. Their parents did not pay attention to them. How rude of the parents. LaScala, however, should not have allowed this to happen. There are places to dine with unruly children. I didn't think LaScala was one of them.
Pre-theater dinner. Perfect timing, service and atmosphere. We are frequent patrons and rarely disappointed. Recommended
Amazing Italian American comfort food, all ingredients were so fresh! Great spot for family lunch
Waitress was great...food was delicious
The ricotta/truffle/honey appetizer was unreal!
Food was great! Service was excellent. I have no complaints.
Food was DELICIOUS. Chicken San Remo highly recommended. Server was running around everywhere and not very personable, didn’t try and get to know me at all, and didn’t talk very much (I understand it was busy). Tables were very close by so I got to overhear other peoples conversations (didn’t like that). Price wasn’t awful. Would go again and would recommend. Plus they validate parking, so that removes a lot of hassle.
Bread was highlight of meal. Chicken franchise was soggy and tasteless. Pasta was ok but not hot. Waiter defended the dish and was dismissive, had no interest in engaging with us. He actually looked around restaurant when talking. We felt very rushed. He slammed a shot of limoncello on the table and said “here, try this” and walked away. No wonder I was able to get a reservation that day. No other reputable Italian restaurant was available.
Food and server were great, although more salt and pepper couldn’t hurt. However, I was uncomfortable with a table that was seated close by. They were staring at my boyfriend and I as if we didn’t belong there and they weren’t hiding the fact that they were staring. As a black woman, I try to avoid using “my blackness” as an issue but I was not pleased as I left because they seemed relieved that we were leaving.
We had a very lovely time and our server was kind enough to confirm that my food was compatible with a dietary restriction, which I appreciated very much. We will be back!
Great food, great service, great music & atmosphere!
The food was second to none and the service was just as outstanding. Might go again tomorrow :)!
Always good food and the service was great.
We look forward to coming back.
We have been going to LaScala’s before every WST show for 3 years because of the food and drinks. This is the first time we were disappointed. I would always have 2 or 3 red sangria’s. It had a bad taste to it. I only drank half of one glass. My chicken parm and pasta had a strong taste of parmigian cheese, it’s all u good taste. I ate half of the plate. My husband’s pork chop was bland, it was tasteless and our Caesar salad was dry. Couldn’t taste any dressing. On the up side the mash potatoes and sausage, peppers and onions were delicious.
Food is always top notch at La Scala's. I especially like the Chicken Sorrento because it combines Chicken, Cheese, Eggplant, and Mushrooms along with my favorite pasta, Linguini.
Amazing italian food. The tomato sauce was a highlight. This is better italian food than I had in Italy. Thank you so much for carrying on the family tradition!
LaScala's never disappoints! The food, atmosphere and service are fantastic! Always our favorite restaurant to visit after a show at the Walnut Street Theatre.
Waiter not knowledgeable. Food was good. Service was on time and friendly. We ordered items and waiter knew we were ordering for meat free, vegetarian on some items. Still brought them out and said oh this does have meat. On reservation stated it was daughters bday and nothing was ever mentioned. Had to ask. It was just okay, nothing exceptional. Staff refilling water and clearing plates was awesome.
I use OpenTable especially when I am visiting cities where I do not live, and want to select a restaurant, often on vacation or a special occasion. The reviews for LaScala were not at all representative of the restaurant where I hosted 11 people for my son’s 21st birthday this past weekend. When we arrived, 5 minutes after the 7:30 reservation time, the hostess seemed flustered and did not have a table ready for us, despite having booked it weeks in advance and confirmed earlier in the day. Not a good start. Apparently, a 2-top was lingering on a large banquette wall, right in the center, where they had intended to seat us. After 5 minutes I showed her another area in the dining room and said, “what about putting those tables together”....voila!
All in all, it felt like an Olive Garden type restaurant, with goopy pastas, bland soggy pizzas and hard, tasteless meatballs. But....the prices were not Olive Garden prices. Would not go back.
My family enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent and our server, Rosario was very professional and helpful with our suggestions.
Most of the food was great except for the chicken. Service was slow and not too attentive. Free parking is a plus.
Did not appreciate being seated with crying babies and families without being asked for a preference and there were choices available.
