About Las Palmas Restaurant
Las Palmas is a family owned and operated business with strong ties to the city. From East Rogers Park to Wicker Park, we identify with the strain of this urban metropolis and feel a vested interest in providing a communal place for the essentials of human activities.
Tucked into a tiny alcove in one of this city’s trendiest neighborhoods, Las Palmas remains one of Bucktown’s best-kept secrets. Upon entering the restaurant one’s senses are inundated with the vibrant colors of local and international artwork and the festive or melancholy sounds of live traditional music. Las Palmas serves spirited Mexican cuisine in a decidedly upscale, but refreshingly unpretentious environment. Chef Alberto Bailon provides an exquisite selection of courses made from the freshest ingredients with solid roots in Mexican culinary heritage yet with a penchant for inventive whimsy.

Las Palmas Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Las Palmas four times in total and I absolutely love it. The overall quality of Mexican restaurant in Chicago is fairly good. But this place has great margaritas, and great food options that are a little diverse from the usual.
In addition, during the summer they have a lovely patio where you can enjoy your dinner al fresco.
This is a solid place in a mid-range price point. You won't be disappointed.
Food was good but the portions are very small, service was super slow for such a small place, no live music as promised when I called to confirm, nothing special about this place don’t know why the reviews are so high, parking was also a nightmare in this area, valet is a joke with these people, they park the car but you have to go get the car yourself??? Of course it’s a lot of money as well. I would never go back it’s a huge rip off for mediocre food, portions so small I left hungry.
My husband thinks Las Palmas has the best Mexican food in the neighborhood with I would say it's just ok. We both agree the chips and salsa (smooth, the way we like it) are yummy, and the guacamole is fine - fresh but nothing special. His favorite is the chicken fajitas. As a vegetarian, my options here are fairly limited, and my food is always very bland. Overall, the cocktails are good, especially the seasonal margaritas. Visit in the summer, when the outdoor patio can be enjoyed; go in the winter and you'll be seated in the main area where's it's really cold every time the door opens.
What a great find, was pleasantly surprised by creative, delicious cuisine here, had the Pato which was excellent, the sauce was well balanced with an ample supply of trumpet mushrooms incorporated into the sauce. My friend had a skirt steak over plantains, also excellent. Everything was very flavorful and well seasoned. Will definitely go back next time I visit Chicago.
Took family here (party of seven) for brunch to celebrate my father-en-laws birthday. The food, service, and overall experience was fantastic! The staff was so attentive and did not rush us in any way. We have two kids (under seven) and they provided a kids menu and were accommodating with special requests. They also sent a tres leches cake with a candle, which was the best we have ever had! We will be going back...again and again!
I generally enjoyed my experience at Las Palmas. It was my second time eating here and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was quick and the server was attentive. I did feel that the food was not as great as the first time. The lighting and the ambiance was nice. Only regret is I mentioned in the notes for my OpenTable reservation that we were celebrating my husband Oliver's birthday so I would have liked for the server from Las Palmas to have mentioned it at least.
This is by far our favorite Mexican restaurant! The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. We've been enjoying the delicious food at Las Palmas for years and will continue to do so. Note: they have a wonderful outdoor space in the back which is perfect for summer evenings.
Had a nice dinner with my daughter on a cold Tuesday night. Cocktails were creative -- one that we had was made with vanilla vodka, malibu and a few other things. It tasted like vacation! Shrimp fajitas and fish tacos tasted great. We plan to come back in the summer to enjoy the patio.
Flavorful food that was somewhat exotic but is definitely comfort food. I had fish tacos and my husband had the mahi mahi. We are both fish lovers and he thought his dish was truly exceptional. The night we were there, the mahi mahi was recommended and I guess they were right! Fair prices for great food.
I was recommended by one of my friends about the restaurant and let me tell you he wasn't lying about how it was good. The service is good and very friendly. The food was outstanding it was so delicious and the price for the entrees are not bad at all. My overall rating for las palmas 10/10
This was my first time heading there and have wanted to for some time and was not disappointed. Great drinks, great food, great service from very friendly server that turned out to be part of the owning family. Very welcoming and the back patio was a nice surprise with a guitar player for additional entertainment. Great place and look forward to going back again.
Our dinner was most enjoyable. We started off our meal with Sangria and the table side guacamole and both were delicious. We had the crab cake appetizer which was excellent. Very light and delicious. The presentation was nicely done as well. We had the slow pork and it also was a must try. Excellent experience and we will go back with our family!!!
Some of the food we ordered came out perfectly, whereas other parts of the meal came out over done or rubbery. Service is really nothing special, no signature greeting, explanation of ingredients/recommendations. Overall, I would try it again as the menu is quite interesting and the food sounds amazing, but I hope service improved. I would skip desserts in the future.
You wouldn't know it from the outside, but once you sit down and peruse the menu, it becomes clear. This is a great authentic Mexican restaurant. From the warm home chips and delicious fresh made guacamole to the fabulous entrees, this place is definitely worth going to. We really enjoyed our meal. The wait staff should probably up their game a bit, as they weren't overly helpful and didn't seem like they really wanted to be there, but the food made up for it.
The food was great and the service was very friendly (if a tiny bit slow, but they were busy). Really though, some of the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago and we've tried a bunch of them since moving here last year. The Cochinita Pibil was outstanding.
