Las Casuelas Nuevas Ratings and Reviews
Food was good and service was friendly but we ate inside and the atmosphere was very flat and unwelcoming. It was also a bit too dark to read the menu. Memo: Sit in the outside area if we go again. Also, it was a birthday meal - reception commented on this when we checked in; thats the last we heard of that.
We were promptly seated and served. The portions were very generous. We both took boxes home. The food was delicious. Our server was Nicole. She gave us very good service, but her hair was a mess. She needs to learn to neatly pin it up in a twist so it doesn't fly in all directions.
Worst dining experience and I've been going to Las Casuelas for years. First, I had a reservation and they separated our party into two separate tables (8 of us), had to redo one of our orders three times, never checked on us for refills, ordered drinks, never delivered - had to get up and walk to bar to get our drinks, had to request our check three times and then had
charges that weren't ours. I don't see us returning anytime soon.
Having been to this restaurant many years ago the food quality has definitely changed. The intising outdoor patio lures you in but more of a tourist trap. We asked for a heater multiple times instead an umbrella was put up. Not sure how that really was helpful in keeping us warm on a chilly evening. Food as mediocre, tasteless & over salted. A disappointing evening for our last get together with friends before departing beautiful Rancho Mirage.
gotta love the mariachis!!! why we go..but the ladies at counter when you arrive need to be friendlier and more welcoming we thought....service parking good, we didn't care much for the particular table in middle room because servers kept rushing by with huge trays...gotta be another way to serve..food ok for most part but sauces too spicy and rice was burnt, portions cold be larger.. salads ok..
We had heard so many wonderful things about this restaurants so you can understand our frustration and surprise after our recent dinner at Las Casuelas Nuevas.
First, I was not given the option to choose indoor seating when I was making my dinner reservation on OpenTable. When I got to the restaurant and let the hostess know I had a reservation via OpenTable, she went to go check for a table to seat us at. She took us to a table outside (which is lovely but quite chilly on a December night). When I mentioned that I didn't select outside seating she informed me that this table was the only one available. I thought it was bad that the restaurant didn't at least offer us a table inside since I didn't choose a table outside. So I considered this, strike one.
Second, was the blandness of the food for the cost. We ordered the tableside guacamole which was pretty bland and overpriced. I've had way better guacamole for a lot less. For main course, my wife ordered the quinoa enchiladas which were also terribly bland (but good-sized portion) and I had the chile verde de puerco which was so dry. I was shocked as to how dry it was for the price at such a well-liked restaurant.
Our server was fantastic and very friendly. He had a great personality and was very attentive.
Lastly, the margaritas. After having a mediocre and disappointing dinner, at least the margaritas were strong and tasty.
I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially for the price.
Las Casuelas Nuevas is a large Mexican food restaurant (so large it has two hosts - one for inside seating and one for outside) that serves the kind of food you would expect - everything from tacos and tostadas to meat and fish dishes. Nothing fancy. Nothing different or noteworthy about it. But if you in the mood for basic American-Mexican food with good-sized portions and tasty, this will do. I don't know how many seats they have, but they're obviously used to crowds, as the service was impeccable - maybe too efficient. They moved everything along quickly. We got our food within 10 minutes of ordering it and our stay at the restaurant was about 45 minutes. (So also good if you're in a hurry.) If you just like a good enchilada and a margarita, you can't go wrong here.
My favorite place to get crunchy tacos. I wouldn't go there again on Christmas Eve. I had reservations so I didn't wait long but it was so crowded service was slow. It was very cold in the restaurant. No strolling singers. Waitress tried her best and was friendly. She got us cups of soup fast since we were cold and hungry. Normally this place is not so hectic but it was a holiday. Wonderful to sit outside in the Summer. Food is good. My soup was very good.
No way will we ever recommend this restaurant. We’ve been going to the old restaurant for over 20 years and at this new restaurant a few times. The few times we’ve been in this place, the reception treated us always unfavorably and I’m just tired of putting up with this place. I specifically said we had a disabled person and they keep offering the farthest places even though there were several open nearby table. We made a reservation and had to wait. A white couple came by with no reservations and they sat them within seconds. They could have said that they were looking for a better seat but no, just had us stood there without letting us know what’s going on. We want to support this restaurant but I’m done. We get treated better at Fleming’s, Roy’s, and Mastro’s. It’s not even a first class place and the people have poor customer service skills. Shameful. Will not go back.
I just love it here and will make it a regular spot for visiting relatives and get togethers with friends. I took my 91 year old father here and he said it was the best food he's ever had!
Now, that says a lot.
I especially love the patio and think the ambience is special. I may even come here alone just to be surrounded by the beauty and good food.
On a golf trip to Palm Desert, decided we needed some Mexican food. This place was recommended so we decided to give it a try. The food menu was quite large, so we had some choices. I opted for a combinacion plate with a chicken enchilada, chicken tostada, and a chicken tamale. My friend ordered a shredded beef taco and a chicken enchilada. The server was attentive and we received our food in a timely manner. As for the food itself, it was good but it just wasn’t great. I was really hoping for something a bit more flavorful but the meal was a bit on the bland side. We were there a bit on the later side, and the food just didn’t seem fresh. I think if I were to go back I’d go with what I originally intended to order, which was a steak fajita. All in all, I’d go back when I’m in the area to give it another shot.
Hadn't been there for many years, but chose this location to host guests. The food and variety were good as every. A mix of Mexican and American cuisine was sufficient to cater to a variety of tastes. Champagne was kept reasonably full. But the Bloody Marys were outrageous! $9.75 a piece was just a bit much for a $6 drink. I would go back again in a heartbeat, but would only drink the complimentary champagne.
