Service wasn’t great - food came out to the table next to us far before us even though they sat down a lot later.
It was a fantastic place and had one of the best pastas I’ve ever had AND I’ve been to Italy!
Service was incredible. Very friendly servers and made great recommendations.
The food was amazing. I loved the ricotta paired with the compote. The hanger steak with the whipped creme and potatoes was the true star of the meal. Finished it off with the savory sweet olive oil cake.
Would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant.
Considering the proximity to the next table, I’d still recommend it to my friends. The spaghetti was so light and delicious. The crunchy topping was amazing. My husband enjoyed his quail. We both enjoyed the oil cake with a scoop of chocolate gelato.
I chose this restaurant because it had gotten so many good reviews for food and was described as one of the most romantic restaurants in New York. We arrived on time and were immediately seated at a table along the wall opposite the bar. At first, I thought it might not be a great table, but actually it was as good as it gets. The bar, where many patrons eat, extends almost the whole length of the downstairs. My husband mentioned to the hostess that we were celebrating our anniversary. Our server, who was charming, brought us each a sip of Prosecco to celebrate. A nice touch. I went to the rest room to wash my hands. Upon entering the very, very dark room, I looked in vain for a light switch. After a while, I realized the lights were on! The room was black. I had to grope around and finally found the hand dryer. Back at the table, we quickly became acquainted with the couple next to us because the tables were so close. The place was noisy, making it easier to talk to the stranger sitting next to one than to one's partner across the table. The menu is interesting. I ordered a chicory salad and gnocchi with rabbit ragu. My husband ordered mushrooms and charred calamari. We ordered wine by the glass. The bottles were expensive. House-made sparkling water was free. Another nice touch. I enjoyed my food. My husband did not enjoy his. Both of his dishes had too much hot pepper. We didn't have dessert.
Amazing food and service!
Food is great and the service is AMAZING
This is a MUST!
Outstanding food and exceptional value. I had a pork chop that was among the best I have ever had (at about one half the cost of my all time favorite). Service was also very good and every staff we interacted with was friendly and professional. We will be sure to return and recommend it highly.
Went on out first date and came back for our anniversary
You can’t beat the scallop crude for best appetizer. It was delicious. I also had the jalapeño clam pasta. Amazing!
The food is very good. Let me say again: very good. However it is far from being the best, specially in NY. Is it worth if you happen to find a convenient time or just want to sit at the bar? Yes. Is it worth making reservations at midnight one month in advance or waiting for hours for a spot in the bar? Hell no!
Prices are very fair and portions are ok if you want to share a couple of dishes or eat one by yourself.
Service lacks a lot of attention. Everything seems rushed, including the bus boys clearing the table very very fast. Servers can’t keep up with the crowd and things gets very slow when it comes to ordering something. For a restaurant that is used to being overbooked this should’ve been addressed already.
After I ordered I overheard from the table on my left that there were specials (that I would have loved to order had I been told about them) and no “compliments from the chef” like the small soup that the table on my right got. Service must be at least a little more consistent.
At the end, good restaurant, above average food but not worth going if it’s a struggle to get a spot or if it’s out of your way.
It would be better to make it clearer that the scallops appetizer was a raw dish. While the hangar was delicious, the very large portion of roasted potatoes was much, much more than necessary. Very good beet salad.
The oil cake. We got 2!
Mother daughter Italian obsessed duo but NYC. We tried quite a few Michelin star restaurants as well as some other popular spots (Marea, Scarpetta) and this was by far our favorite meal. The basic spaghetti was life changing and I have craved it since I left! It’s very much a low key spot but the food service and wine are all outstanding... highly recommended. I can’t wait to go back!
We would recommend L’Artusi to a friend, but the personnel was definitely not very friendly.
It was lit
Get the mushrooms and white bolognese. Service is spotty — not very attentive. Delicious food though and great ambience.
Top notch service: our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, while being super relatable and warm. And he’s 11 feet tall so was a dream to watch :)
Have been eating here for 10 years and so happy it’s not dipped below excellent in all that time.
Overrated restaurant. The food was mediocre (we ordered mushroom appetizer, ravioli, garganrelli, hanger steak and olive cake). It’s way below my expectation (I expected it would be better than my favorite Italian restaurant Sotto Sotto in Atlanta). It was not even close. Very disappointed. Does not worth the long wait and money.
Was a great meal from appetizers to desserts!
Amazing overall experience! The pasta and the cheeses were to die for.
Delicious! Loved the garlic spaghetti and olive cake. Trouble is it’s so hard to get a reservation I don’t know that I’d be coming back anytime soon.
It was my first time here but I would definitely come back. Food was great and the ambiance was nice
Went here on a cute date and loved it! Service was great, ambiance was perfect and of course food was amazing! We had the special appetizer pesto arancini balls and those were our favorites. We also go the mushroom ragu pasta and the lamb pasta which were both super flavorful and rich. The pasta was very well made and fresh.
Amazing as usual! My all time favorite restaurant in NYC.
We were blown away. Everything was amazing.
They Did very well with the dietary restrictions our group had which is very appreciated. Everything was delicious and served well paced. Consistently great.
Love this place
I've been wanting to go to L'Artusi for months now so when I finally was able to get a dinner reservation for a Sunday night, I couldn't wait. The ambiance was perfect for date night and the food very much live up to the hype. I can't wait to go back.
Was very excited to try LArtusi after hearing about the restaurant by word of mouth and Infatuation. However, we were under impressed overall with the experience. Beef carpaccio was tasty, but the bread and pastas were forgettable. Didn’t understand the hype of the restaurant. Wouldn’t go back.
We had a disappointing meal at L'Artusi. Two of the dishes we ordered were not cooked properly. The roasted mushrooms with the fried egg came with runny egg whites, and the pork chop that we ordered medium arrived well done and dry, and when we sent it back we were served a rare pork chop. The staff/management tried to be accommodating and the rest of the meal was tasty. Our daughter ate there several months ago and had the best meal of her life, but a restaurant needs to be consistent in order to earn my recommendation.
Best Pasta Ever! Service is impeccable. Highly recommend to anyone!
The food was incredible and the service matched the quality. I had such a great time here and can’t wait to come back
L’Artusi is phenomenal!! Everything was perfect- our waitress could not have have been more helpful and wonderful and the food is to die for. I cannot wait to go back.
L’Artusi - West Village
Everything for everyone, classic to its core, doesn’t try to be too much, best wine list for those looking to learn Italian wines in the city...
2005 San Michelle Barbara d’alba malvira
Yummy, balanced, elegant with a long and mouth watering finish. Great mineralogy and aroma but honestly, wasn’t food friendly... would order 10/10 times but would aim to have it before the meal or after, not during.
Housemade ricotta butter crisps jam
The crisps were perfect, tasted like butter and cut well by the fat of the ricotta and the acidity of the jam. All in one bite, magic. Today’s SPECIAL but hopefully they do it again because it might have been the best thing we had. So simple, yet so elegant. Finesse of flavor
Beef carpaccio, great flavor and even better textures. The crunch of the breadcrumbs with the creamy horseradish sauce and the beef itself, magic.
Hen of the woods tortellini - so much depth, each bite is a little bit different and once you realize how good the sauce is, you’ll switch trade your fork in for your spoon and just go for it like no one is watching. Must love mushrooms...and be able to handle a little heat on the back end when the Calabrian chili oil says hello. again, this was a special.
Spaghetti simple - beautifully simple and the risotto style sauce with the cheese baked in is smooth and rich. The chilies give it the perfect kick but if you don’t like spice it still plays. Your mouth will feel it but you won’t regret it.
Pork chop - a little bit all over the place here, not sure how I felt about pairing sweet potatoes with olives but the accouterments aside, the meat itself was cooked beautifully and packs a punch of flavor.
Carrots - underwhelming to be honest, would probably try something else next time. They came gratis to the table which was nice, but probably wouldn’t order them.
Fabulous! The food is amazing. We paired dinner with 2 bottles of a recommended red that was an excellent recommendation
Poor service. Took ten minutes to get water and menu. Got bread after we ate our appetizers. Very long lull between dishes.
Food and service is consistently phenomenal .. never disappointed !
Sat upstairs. Great informative waitress. Had a good bottle of wine from their rec. Housemade ricotta was amazing, so was garganelli and olive oil cake
I was expecting something else. It's really difficult to get a reservation. I had to book a 5:30 reservation close to 2 months in advance. This booking procedure reminded be of how difficult it used to be to get into Il Mulino's.
So first the good stuff -- the service was very good. The atmosphere was nifty. There is an extensive wine list -- albeit only Italian wines. The wine I ordered (marked up about 4 times) was great.
The food itself was cooked perfectly. And the plates are reasonably priced for NYC.
But here was the problem I had -- this is not traditional Italian food. They seem to like to use a lot of bread crumbs and chiles in the dishes. Also unlike most real Italian eateries -- and I've been in a lot -- you can't really substitute or order off menu. What you see is what you are getting for the most part.
Of the two appetizers and three mains we ordered, I liked the butter lettuce dish and the buccatini in a chile red sauce. Both that and the spaghetti dish were perfectly al dente.
The net net for me is this: while the meal was a solid B+ overall, the the aura that surrounds this restaurant and difficulty getting a reservation, simply is NOT deserved. It's a decent place that for some reason has a hype way above what it should be.
