Larkin's on the River Ratings and Reviews
The food was wonderful and the service was fantastic. It is pricey for what you get - sides run around $7 each and toppings for your steak (such as blue cheese) run about $5 each. So it can add up quickly. But it's a lovely place to eat and making a reservation is a must.
Great food. Great service. Since moving to Greenville a few months ago, we created a list of local restaurants to try. Larkins on the River was at the top of the list. With the wonderful timing this week with Greenville Restaurant week, we decided now was the time to go. Extensive wine list, with many good wines by the glass. We will come back again.
We went to Larkin's on the River for my parents' 57th anniversary. The restaurant made our visit extra special by giving them a card and a desert, and by giving the entire table champagne for a toast. We all chose seafood and everyone loved their dishes. Best of all, my parents had a blast. I would like to personally thank Ed for his attentive service. He made us feel welcomed and cared for.
One of our favorite restaurants in GRV - steaks are the specialty and both my wife's (bone-in ribeye) and mine (bone-in strip) were excellent. Only negative I would report was dessert - wife ordered special pumpkin cheesecake and she reported it was not very good (too much fluff and not enough pumpkin taste) and I ordered lava cake which was a little dry.
We had looked forward to coming back to Larkins for our New Year's Eve celebration. Before tonight, this was our favorite restaurant in Greenville. We were so disappointed. The restaurant was freezing cold. We were seated near the kitchen so we were in the middle of server traffic the entire time and we were right in front of a door to the outside which kept opening and shutting all night long. They were out of baked potatoes, the steak wasn't cooked correctly and the asparagus was overcooked and not hot when served. I understand that New Year's Eve is a busy night, but that is why we chose a restaurant with Larkin's reputation for excellent food and service. Our feeling was even New Year's Eve wasn't a big enough curve ball to throw Larkin's off their game. Boy, were we wrong.
Overall excellent as Larkins always is. The food includingvtje sea bass, osso bucco and ahi tuna were too notch. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Wine steward ok, not particularly skilled. The fries with truffle oil always make you eat too much. Only downside is we were near the side door tjat kept opening on a bitterly cold night. In future with such bitter weather tjat door should not be opened as it impacts several diners by that door
The food was fantastic, appetizers were very generously sized, main course offerings were varied and creative, accommodating to substitutions, the Brussels sprouts side was my favorite. The atmosphere was a little too loud but it was a very busy night as many were attending events at the peace ctr and arena. Will definitely be on my short list when in town!
I travel frequently for business in various cities throughout the world. My wife and I were at Larkin’s during personal travel. The food is incredible, and the the service was excellent. Their food compares well to the best I find in New York and London. My recommendation: book a table and take your wife. And - get the she crab soup ... better than one finds in Charleston.
One of our favorite restaurants in downtown Greenville, and again they did not disappoint when we took friends there for their 47th Wedding Anniversary on December 26th, 2017 .
Our server that evening was David, and he was spot on with his recommendations, timing , and service. The steaks and seafood were done to perfection.
When in town Larkin's is a must stop for good food.
Food was excellent, in fact the best steak I had ever eaten, but service was unwelcoming.
We arrived 15 minutes early and hostess asked us to "go do something" since we were early.
(What??) There was no one at tables yet, but the bartender was working. Hostess did not offer us to sit at the bar so we waited outside. That was uncomfortable and did not make us feel welcome :(
Once inside and seated, we were overlooked (possibly because we were early) and had to wait another 15 minutes for a wine list. Food was outstanding and the restaurant was beautiful, but the service we received was not so great :(
I could understand it if the place was packed and later in the evening, but that was not the case. This event was my son's Christmas surprise for me and ended up being a little let down.
Our service was terrible. We waited almost 20 minutes before we even had our drink order taken. We had to ask if there were any specials for the evening because our waitress just asked what we wanted. My husband and I both got a filet which also took way too long to get. Once our food arrived my steak was average but my husband had a terrible cut of meat. Just fatty and not what you would expect from a higher end steakhouse. That was definitely the last time we will be at larkins.
Larkins is in an amazing venue that is conveniently located in the heart of beautiful Downtown Greenville. The wait staff is extremely accommodating and goes well beyond the expectations that I would have of a restaurant of this caliber. However, I have noticed that while the cost of the menu items has risen, the quality does not quite match.
Came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and the food was delicious! The service was quick and our waitress was excellent and accommodating. My mom sent back her chicken dish because the wine sauce was too much for her, but she received another dish without problem and promptly. I would definitely return here to try other dishes on the menu. Dessert was tasty as well!
