Larkin's on the River Ratings and Reviews
I took my friend to Larkin's before a show at the peace center. She is moving to Chicago. She is 87 years old and they did everything possible to accommodate us. Our meal was excellent. We had the surf and turf that was on the 3 course menu. Choice of soup or salad for the first course. She had the she crab soup and I had the salad. The soup had abundant crab and the salad was so crisp and tasty. We both had the surf and turf and for the 3rd course of dessert we were too full to eat it so the waitress was so kind to offer to put it in a box plus what we had left over and said she would put it under refrigeration for us till after the show. We couldnt have had a better experience.
My recent di ing experience at Larkin's on the River is one that I must say has been the best I have ever experienced. The downtown area of Greenville, SC is simply an awesome atmosphere in its own right, but to pair it with such a fantastic restaraunt experience is unbelievable. The food was magnificent and the service was truly world class.
Came to Larkin's for a birthday celebration. For appetizers we had oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail, tenderloin & goat cheese quesadilla, & bacon wrapped scallops for a combo platter. All were delicious, most notable were the quesadilla and scallops. The She Crab soup was unbelievable as promised. Steaks were cooked to exact temps, the salmon and shrimp & grits made for happy diners. Side dishes of Brussel Sprout hash & smoked Gouda mashed potatoes were favorites. The only things that weren't a big hit were the asparagus (tough) & non-descript mashed potatoes served with some entrees. Finished with creme brûlée, key lime tart, chocolate hazelnut torte & chocolate cake. Becky, our server, was attentive, knowledgable & perfect!
Outstanding seafood, cooked to perfection. Sauces and broth were well prepared. Very nice high level wine list. Outdoor seating made for a wonderful view and a great dining experience. Wait staff was available at all the right times and kept coming back as a team to make sure we had all we needed.
This restaurant over delivered in every way. From their house selections of liquor and wine to the waiters attentive service and finally the food. You know when you order something like calamari, creamed spinach or a steak and you have an expectation or a pre notion of what you hope it to taste like? It is not often when that expectation is exceeded and that is exactly what happened at larkins, their flavors and takes on certain dishes are now what I expect which is going to leave me disappointed at other restaurants. Disregard any bad reviews on the food, some people like the people behind us will never be happy with anything. They were being ridiculous, the manager and the server bent over backward to make them happy. Great great place!!
Love Larkins! I am not real fond of eating fish....but the salmon with the mushroom sauce was just so good ! You forget you are eating something that is good for you ! And you can just relax and enjoy a delicious dish ! Thank you to the Chef ! Perfect before going to the Peace Center. Can't wait to return !
We were visiting Greenville to attend a play at the Peace Center. I found Larkin's online, close to the Peace center. We were able to sit outside on a beautiful day. We watched families strolling along the river. Our server was attentive, but did not hurry us. The brunch menu had a nice variety. The eggs Larkin were good, but the filet was more medium than rare ( as ordered). The stuffed french toast was sublime. Luckily, our server noted we were not given our maple syrup. The creme brûlée was a perfect ending to our meal.
We had eaten here several times for dinner and always had good service and food. We made a 11:00 a.m. reservation. Service was rather slow, but we were in no hurry. Then it took almost 45 minutes to get our food. The waiter kept saying it was coming right out. When it finally did, several of the dishes had obviously been sitting for awhile. Both of the egg dishes were hard on the outside and barely warm. At this point we were in somewhat of a hurry, so didn't send the foot back. It was basically inedible.
The service was impeccable! The food was divine. We had tickets to a play but almost decided to stay longer at the restaurant (missing
The play)! We were pleased that we could split our meal! Can't wait to have another special occasion to celebrate at Larkins!
Went on a Sunday evening with a first date. First time for me at Larkins. Great atmosphere and the food was good. While the filet mignon was tender and cooked as ordered, it was not as flavorful as I expected from Larkin's reputation for steaks. However, I will very likely be back to give it another try.
I guess we were on the late side of brunch time that day as we were going to a matinee. Dry waffles with dry chicken for chicken and waffles. Adequate shrimp and grits. Two rather small cheese biscuits for two people served on a cold plate. Guess we missed the main service.
We LOVED the setting of this restaurant in downtown Greenville. Waterfalls, green lawns, right alongside the river, brick buildings, all beautiful. Wait staff attentive, the menu was very good but the kitchen had a hard time with eggs that morning. Highly recommend going to Larkins!
My niece and nephew were in town and we wanted to take them to lunch in downtown Greenville. We had eaten dinner at Larkin's and enjoyed it so we decided to give it a try for lunch. The atmosphere was great and we loved the food. We ordered everything from salads to sandwiches. The steak salad was the favorite at the table. Lunch is a great way to experience Larkin's for a less expensive meal than dinner.
Larkin's is definitely a classy restaurant sporting an impressive menu and excellent wine selection. I would certainly come again if a special occasion arises or if I have access to company funds for a business dinner as I did this time. Appetizers for our group of 5 were very good except for the fried fish bites which had an off taste and the watery, unpleasantly bitter horseradish dipping sauce. No complaints about the beautifully done filet mignon. It did look very lonely on my dinner plate, however being accompanied only by a small dollop of delicious garlic mashed potatoes and 3 pieces of asparagus. My overall impression is one of confusion. Some things were done with excellence while other things were leaning towards mediocrity.
Let's first say this restaurant was quite difficult to locate. Can't really tell where the main entrance was. Upon arriving to the restaurant, several (4) waiters standing around talking totally ignored us. Waitress took our order and then disappeared. Didn't seem to care in explaining the menu and the dinner special. Asked for to-go box for leftover steak thru all the other leftover fatty steak that was left on the side inside the box. Really gross!
After she gave us to-go box disappeared again. Did not come back with our check. We had to pay with another server.
Nothing special with this restaurant.
There were four people in our group and three had the osso bucco which they each reported was outstanding. I had the sea bass and it was a little over-salted. Also, I find a green pepper medley a rather strange choice to serve with sea bass---obviously something I should have taken into account before ordering but I so love sea bass. The calamari appetizer is not to be missed---and my husband says the same of the crème brulee. This is our favorite go-to special-occasion restaurant in Greenville.
Enjoyed a get-together with friends for dinner and ordered from the 3-course menu. I selected the she crab soup, free-range chicken and creme brulee. Larkin's she crab is some of the best anywhere, chicken was very tender, creme brulee delicious. Only complaint was cold mashed potatoes and a few bothersome flies that are inevitable when eating outside.
It was our 28th wedding anniversary. Visiting Greenville we took the locals suggestions that this was the nicest place to eat. Made reservations for may husband and I. A couple of friends also attended. I think maybe the locals suggested it because of the expensive menu. When the prices are high you assume its great, but not always. It was just ok.
Food was just ok. The steaks were not the best quality I have ever had. We might try again next month for our friends anniversary if they want to go back.
We absolutely love Larkins. It is a treat for us to come to Sunday brunch.latkins is social to our family. We always bring our out of town guests to Larkins. I must admit I am disappointed with the changes to the omelette buffet. While you have decreased the price; the options for the omelette bar dramatically decreased. Please consider adding fruit back. Also the man who cooks at the omelette station is one of your best assets. I am embarrassed that I can't remember his name. Kudos to him! I appreciate him! He welcomes us and remembers our preferences. Then when we leave often he comes to the door to tell us to come back. Thanks for making Sundays so special.
Always love to eat here. Was concerned that someone at our table had to wait 10 minutes for her meal while we already had ours. Even though she had an appetizer for her entree the waiter should have been very specific with the kitchen. We ate VERY slowly until hers came but ours was stone cold by then. Though apologetic the management did not offer to comp her wine or give a discount for the less than stellar service. Highlight was that the food was prepared wonderfully.
The check in was disorganized (new hostess), but everything else about the meal was spot on. The table service was just right -- knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, but not overdone. Food and drinks are pricy, but top quality and nice portions. We particularly enjoyed the ceasar salad made tableside and the she-crab soup. Sea bass was very tasty; salmon just a little over-done for our taste. But, well seasoned and presented. It was too warm/humid to enjoy the patio, but the views across the river are very nice. Good location for outdoor dining in the fall, spring, or on a mild winter night.
This restaurant is absolutely SUPERB! Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and wonderful wait staff. It is pricey, but SO worth it, especially for important occasions. We dined here for our anniversary, and will remember our dining experience as one of the best....highly recommend!!
to start we had reservations at 8 and got seated at around 9. service was very slow. food quality for a steak rest. was very poor on the filets we had. the mash potato looked a felt like instant with no flavor. the place closed at 10 and we were there till at least 11. and when we went to the valet they had left already and moved the truck close to the rest. and left the keys inside the place at the bar, which I had to come back to the rest. to find them. no management even came to the table to greet us.
Larkins and all the staff , helped make a special weekend, even more special. I run a small auto repair facility in Piedmont SC, I look at customer service very closely , and the staff at Larkins perfomed at an outstanding level . I woud like to speak to someone at Larkins about helping me offer special coupon , and or gift certificate to my special customers.
I can be reached at 864-625-7031
Best regards to all.

Dined here to celebrate a birthday. The food was good, but we were a bit disappointed in the service. While our waiter, was attentive, he seemed a bit distracted. My husband's meal, rack of lamb, was not cooked the way he ordered it and it was returned to the kitchen (something we don't really like to do); the lamb was replaced and was cooked to the temperature ordered, and was delicious, our waiter never asked if it was okay and seemed to avoid us for the remainder of the evening.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Larkin's On The River. My wife's steak was perfect and the Salmon was perhaps the best I've ever eaten. The sides and presentation added to the experience. I recommend the outside dining option. Many have commented on the slow service and it was painfully slow with long waits after ordering and between courses. However, given the choice between being rushed through the experience or spending a little over 2 hours enjoying the food, conversation, sights and sounds with someone I love, I'd do it all over again without hesitation. Some have also commented on the price but I consider it well priced for the quality of the meal and the over-all experience.
Oysters were rubbery tuna was cooked correctly rare however I don't think it should be cold especially where it was seared, libertys she crab soup was much better which is sad to say, service was not in touch with our obvious displeasure.. Now my sons ny strip was done nicely and they do make nice mashed, you can make your own judgement. The manager wasn't very perceptive either oh well won't be going back after attending for many years, Augusta grill is much better just not the same atmosphere as downtown.
