Larkin's on the River Ratings and Reviews
We were a little disappointed this visit; our waiter wasn't the best; spilled our oil plate and wasn't attentive enough; compared to what we have had before. Would have liked our preferred better choice of seating considered more, we were entertaining a relative who's never been to Greenville before; Valet parking was very poor service...... So we may not be back so soon.
Food was disappointing overall....we both had steaks which were good, not the best I have had....but the sides tasted like something you would get at cafeteria --cheese loaded broccolini and dry mashed potatoes....plus the bread was not house-made....dessert we passed on....the table-made Caesar salad was the best part of the meal
First time to Larkins and we couldn’t have been more pleased. I decided to take my wife there to celebrate her birthday with out of town guests. David our waiter was excellent, he was attentive and engaging. The food was fantastic, the steaks were cooked perfectly. Each side dish we ordered was the perfect amount for four people.
We left very pleased with the experience and will definitely come back.
Hostess was friendly. We were early and was still seated immediately. Cocktails were mixed perfectly. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all our questions with calm and engaged. The she crab soup was the best I've had inland. We all ordered filet with 1 being bone in. All were cooked to perfection except 1, it was very well done instead of medium. We did not bring it to their attention. Sides were tasty and dessert was on point especially the Chocolate Lava Cake. Valet parking was nice. We were unaware but if you let the hostess know they will have you vehicle ready when you leave. Overall, with that 1 exception, avery enjoyable experience.
I had the filet mignon, and my friend had the salmon. The filet was perfectly cooked at medium rare and was very tender. My friend said the salmon was so perfectly done as to rival his mom's cooking. It was quiet and easy to chat. Great atmosphere for a relaxing meal.
Met for a business dinner. Restaurant is quite loud so conversation was difficult. Nice beer and wine list. Two of us ordered the shrimp and grits and it was only ok - too much cheese and the grits were served with a mashed potato or stiffer consistency. Bacon wrapped scallops appetizer was excellent.
We thought the restaurant was excellent. The food and service were great. There was a cozy feel to the dining room, especially considering it was dark, rainy and miserable outside. Only drawback is that it's hard to get to and parking may be an issue. That said, we will get back again and highly recommend Larkins.
I have been several times while in town and it has been good. This time I had a horrible experience. We had a 7:30 reservation and arrived early 6:45 but told hostess we would be happy to have a drink before. They said they would get our table ready. At 7:30 they were still "getting out table ready". We ended up eating at the bar. Our steaks were undercooked and almost "cold" when they arrived. Bartender was great however, we sent the steaks back and they were still undercooked. Took manager 30 min to come over and apologize. Won't be going back.
We came here to celebrate a special occasion and had the perfect table waiting on us on a busy evening. The restaurant was humming with energy and had a great atmosphere. The crafted cockatails were unique and the menu had plenty of good options. The food for the price was just OK to be honest - my crab cake was very salty - but the overall evening was memorable and enjoyable. I would definitely go back.
This is the second time that we have eaten here, and both meals have been exceptionally good. Their facility is very nice, being housed in a reclaimed older building. The food is excellent (especially the she crab soup). Service is very professional. Nice wine list. This is not a cheap place, but you certainly get what you pay for.
Larkins is certainly one of Greenville's better restaurants - usually. This time, not so much. The pork chop which has been phenomenal in the past, was tough and over cooked. The flavor and marinade still very good, but it could not mask a poor quality of meat. Service, though early in the evening was also a bit sketchy. Especially considering the prices, I expect the best from this restaurant. Sadly disappointed, and may choose another place next time for our special occasion.
The ambiance was very nice, and the proximity to the Peace Center made it very convenient. The food was okay--nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home about either. I had the rack of lamb (4 rib chops), and my wife had a filet mignon. We both also had salads. (I had asked for Brussel sprouts rather than the asparagus, but the waiter apparently forgot (which wasn't a big deal since I like asparagus too; I was just interested in the Brussel sprouts a little more). The steak was cooked fine, but nothing about the taste was particularly exciting. The lamb was slightly cool and not real flavorful, but okay. Again, nothing to complain about.
The reason I would hesitate to recommend Larkins is that while the food was simply okay, the price was very high. Considering with steaks, everything is a la carte, the almost $40 for the meat plus cost of salad, plus cost of a side seemed at first a little much, but I'd be willing to pay if it were a gastronomical delight. But the food was...eh--fine, but nothing to make me pass up some other restaurants with better tasting meals at less exorbitant prices. (Total price tag for the two of us with 20% tip was about $140, which included one glass of wine.)
I'm not outraged at the cost. Restaurants in Greenville are certainly catching up with bigger city prices. But for that price, I just expected a tastier dish. I'll probably choose Nantucket next time--much more flavorful food at slightly less cost.
This was our first time at Larkin's while visiting Greenville SC from NY. Was recommended by several people. From start to finish it was a pleasant experience. We sat at bar first and a couple struck up conversation with us. We talked beyond our reservation time but were not rushed to sit. Water and request for our drink was immediate. Our server, Brian was excellent. Upbeat personality and helpful in our entree choices. I had the encrusted wahoo fish that was excellent. We were not rushed so it was a relaxing evening with excelent food and wine.
