DINNER WAS SO FANTASTIC THAT WE WENT BACK FOR BREAKFAST THE VERY NEXT MORNING! THIS HAS BECOME OUR NEW FAVORITE PLACE IN LAWRENCE.
Ordered the half-bird fried chicken but what I was served was obviously so extremely overcooked it was very close to black in color. You don't have to be an expert in fried chicken to know that it stayed in the fryer too long and should be replaced with a new order. Instead, the cooking staff plated it and server delivered it to the table. I should have sent it back, but everyone else had their food and I didn't want to wait. Eating the fried breading was not an option as it was so overcooked it was physically difficult to break it to get to the chicken. I've cracked crabs that were easier to get into. After much work, I was able to salvage enough edible chicken from the four pieces to equal about two very small pieces. Even after seeing that my plate was piled high with un-eaten shards of the overcooked breading, the server never asked about my food. The other dishes we ordered were fine, and the service was decent. Just wish there had been better quality control.
Fun and interesting menu!
Food was nothing to write home about which I am surprised and been before with great food. Our apps came before our drinks. We got sat at the same time a 9 top did, and it seemed like they were the priority. Server was good.
We drove over from Kansas City because we read all of the really good reviews. My husband was excited about the skillet cornbread and I was excited to get a biscuit and their local cheesy grits. We chose a table in the shade outside and my husband ordered a coffee and I ordered iced coffee. When our drinks came I was told mine was an alchemy cold brew. I told him that I was familiar with alchemy’s cold brews and didn’t think anymore about it until I asked for a refill and was told he would have to charge me. I didn’t order another because of that and didn’t realize until our bill came that I wasn’t served an iced coffee at all but a five dollar cold brew. I told him that that was not what I ordered and I am simply wanted an iced coffee and so he took it off of our bill.
When our food arrived the skillet cornbread look yummy and then I looked what it was sitting in front of me which certainly was not the cheesy grits that I had ordered and instead was one big sausage. He took that away and later brought my cheesy grits. When I looked at the biscuit in front of my scrambled eggs I again was a bit puzzled because it was cut in half and toasted and never have I thought that a biscuit would be served in that way because I was thinking it would be the normal fluffy biscuit.
My husband was happy with his skillet cornbread but I was very disappointed with my meal because none of that was what I was intending to be served except for the two scrambled eggs. The trip over was deemed OK because we got to sit outside but we were very disappointed with my mealI have had much better cheesy grits at another restaurant in Lawrence which we have been to several times and which I will not name in this post. Needless to say we won’t be back.
We enjoyed the experience. The menu was unique, with a variety of entrees and choices of proteins.
The wait staff was attentive and checked with us on a regular basis to see if we needed anything else.
Some of the group had a drinks, which they expressed satisfaction with. We had two appetizers and each of the group enjoyed an entree. Nice addition to downtown Lawrence.
This restaurant has all the potential to become a treasured gem. One major thing holding it back is the presentation of the foods. Menu itself was fantastic but how it was made and focus on details need to improve. For example, my son's breakfast sandwich came with a clump of a thick fatty part of the bacon which nearly grossed him out. My avocado toast came with the avocado not evenly spread all over and the eggs just slightly undercooked. If not for these things, then the meal would have been perfect.
Very limited menu. Food seems more suitable for lunch than dinner. Draft beer and wine by the glass also quite limited and not to our taste.
They seated us closer to the bar so it was noisier this time, but food was still great. Sides seemed to be smaller than what we had had in the past. Still a great value. Three of us split the whole fried chicken-delicious! One of my favorite restaurants in Lawrence. Will be back.
I'm very impressed with the diversity and interest of the cocktail menu, and all the drinks we tried were wonderful!
We met friends for brunch last Sunday. Food was very good, service was excellent. We look forward to milder weather so we can enjoy dining in the beautiful patio area. Seeing the U.S. women 's soccer team win the World Cup while we were there added to an already great experience.
The food was delicious. The service was great. Just do love this restaurant. It is one of my most favorite places
The evening started out very pleasant. Our server, she was excellent and took very good care of a large group of women. The music got a little loud during our meal and it was harder to hold a conversation. The food was excellent a bit pricey for the average Lawrence person. I had a burger which was a very generous portion and tasted fine but the tomato basil appetizer left me wanting more! I would return because of the community involvement with the Final Friday events and I would love to try one of the specialty drinks.
For our anniversary, we wanted to try something different so we headed to Lawrence for a night out. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and tried some small plates to share. The bar tender was terrific and made several recommendations, all of which were fantastic. We'll be back!
Food was good; a few items a bit salty. Service was excellent. Bar vibe is cool; would definitely return to try other items.
Lots of issues with food - ambiance is fantastic, but need serious help with food quality
I hosted a special event at Lark A Fare over the weekend and everything was amazing. Our table was ready for us on time, our server greeted us right away and answered all of our questions regarding ingredients (food allergies). The food was delicious and the drink menu is extensive. I have yet to be disappointed when I visit Lark A Fare.
Love the ambiance and decor. Great menu selection for brunch and excellent customer service. Food was very good 😋
I love Lark A Fare! The food is great, the cocktails are tasty, and the people who work there are wonderful. Two thumbs up all around.
Awesome food and staff! We had not been here for brunch before, but we WILL be back!
The food is great...Lacy did an awesome job as my server!
The menu has changed since the last time I was there, more small plates. We tried many and everything was still delicious. I highly recommend this place for date night, entertaining new friends, happy hour. Great food and Great Atmosphere!!!
We went there for a birthday dinner. We were pleased with everything. Wi definitely go back
Excellent food. Excellent and friendly service. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. One of my favorite restaurants in Lawrence.
Was pleased to see many good choices for vegan food. Service was good. The only "complaint" voiced by members of my party of all ages was the dress, or lack thereof, of the staff. See-through and skimpy garments leaving nothing to the imagination seemed to be the choice. None of us are fuddy-duddies but seeing every nipple, dimple, crack, hair, and bump of the staff is rather unappetizing.
Bloody mary bar was great! Food came fast and tasted good, no complaints
Large party graduation brunch. Service was friendly and professional. Food was delicious. Especially good: chicken fried steak and fried chicken and waffles. Will definitely be back.
Very accommodating for a family of ten with two children. Great for brunch!
Great find in Lawrence. A fun menu; you can either order a bunch of small plates or entrees. Great bar. Vibe is good too. Enjoyed this place and will be back.
The food was creative and good. Our waiter was beer friendly, but not that well-trained not his fault. Pores water from bottle touching all glasses - not health code. Presentrd
Lovingly crafted dishes of an exceptional quatlity.
Lark a Fare is moderately priced for the atmosphere, if you are looking for a less overpriced version of RND but still want the same high end atmosphere with great food this is where you should go. You can get entrees for 13$ all the way to 25$ with very good appetizers and a fantastic drink menu. Seriously you can definitely go here just for drinks it is such a fun place to go it reminds me of some of the smaller classier bars in chicago but drinks don't start at 15$ you can get some really good ones for 9$ or less. Super great place overall we will definitely be coming back and the servers here are all very kind.
Lark a Fare is probably the best restaurant in Lawrence. Great staff, great food, great drinks, and great value.
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere.
Fantastic food and cocktails!! Service was great! This is our 3rd visit and we will definitely be back! One of our top 5! We love locally sourced farm to table!
As a first time customer, I enjoyed the food, specifically the hummus. It was a bit loud, but I was there on a Friday evening and it was quite busy, which may have been the reason for the slightly distracted nature of my server.
Great food for great prices. The beer cheese soup is exceptional. Wonderful service and nice addition to the dining scene in Lawrence.
The chicken was amazing! The pork chop was very tender. Please try the mashed potatoes and the macaroni and cheese. Super good service and great cocktails.
Amazing per usual.
Do not publish but share with the restaurant. The food was excellent but was not as hot as I would have liked. Ditto the coffee. Tepid is bad news for restaurants. But the food was good, just not as warm as we'd have liked. We'll go back and hope that temp. issues have been resolved.
