One was a contractor in logistics the other a chef in London and Paris.
What they both have in common besides the love of good food is the love of street culture. Years ago they met in Paris during a regular sale of shoes at the Place de la République…
From this meeting, the pair launched into a collaboration of sharing their passion for food. They started with pop-up restaurants with the aim of offering gastronomic street food to all, from a range of mixed recipes from different cultures and from gastronomic food to street food. Then, they had a brainwave…. Resulting in to transforming their Pop-ups into a real restaurant in downtown LA. From PARIS to LA come and travel with us.

We came for my husband’s birthday and everything was spectacular from the ambiance to the food! We went to Paris on our honeymoon last year and had been craving authentic and delicious french food, and this place blew us away. We cannot wait to return!
Intimate bistro within walking distance to LATC. Our server and the chef were especially friendly and acccomodating.
Great food, great service highly recommend!
Loved everything about this restaurant-from very sweet owner to the littlest detail. Will be back for sure. Very soulful and cozy, and fabulously delicious
Confit was wonderful. Service was terrific. Pavlova- so tasty. When we return to LA, we will return to L’Appart.
Wonderful -- dishes thoughtfully executed and very delicious. They really take care on all aspects of the dining experience. It's quite small and charming, perfect for a romantic evening. It was our wedding anniversary and was just perfect.
We have not had as good of meal as this in a LONG time. A lot of love goes into what they have created here. Spoke to the chef and owner about their first location in Santa Monica and let’s just say, SaMo, WHEN will you learn?! Once again, you let an absolute GEM slip through your figures while busily applauding the mediocrity of flavorless chain restaurants so you can gauge us with unsustainable high rent prices. We will happily make the drive to DTLA in a heartbeat for an experience such as this. Thank you for spoiling us so. We wish you long lasting, tremendous success in this new location.
Mark and Thierry have created a truly wonderful restaurant experience. The food is exquisite. The ambiance is very comfortable. It truly feels like you’ve stepped into their home. I will be back again and again.
Easily one of the best new restaurants I’ve been to LA in the last few years. Incredible food and service.
At first, we sat for almost 10 minutes for no service..I asked for water and then bread for myself... I gave credit to foods, which is not disappointed me... maybe they just newly opened, so I can give them some time...
Some of the best food in Los Angeles. Very creative.
Loved the little secret spot in Downtown. The ambiance is super charming with a very nice decor - Both chefs are the friendliest - service is good and the food was incredible - I love the TV with live cooking as you get to see what the chef prepares live and it makes you want to try out everything on the menu- and it was really really good! Cant wait to go back - Menu also changes regularly s there is always something exciting to try!
The food and the interior both were an artful blend of street pop culture with French root. Intimate place that really showcase food through the live kitchen stream. Very interesting fusion of French and Californian cuisine.
A perfect dinner in a cozy, warm ambiance . You will see Chef Thierry and Marc cooking while having a cup of champagne✨ Everything is so well prepared , tasty and delicious but also generously served! I personally recommend the seared scallops, the Mac & Cheese Gorgonzola and then one of the best ” Creme Brûlée” and Chocolate Lava cake I had in a long time!
We will definitely be back to try more of the menu✨👌🏽👍🏽✨
The restaurant is small and intimate with perfect lighting and smooth relaxing music. L'Appart is short for l'appartement, and it feels like visiting a friend's apartment. We watched the Parisian chef prepare our meals on a TV in the corner.
Love the atmosphere and food
Everything was perfect
Run, I mean RUN to this restaurant before it becomes too well known! It's only been open for 2 months (and closed for 10 days of those months due to a stove malfunction) and its already getting buzz. The two owners, a chef and front-of-the-house manager, are both from Paris and are passionate about food.
The menu is pretty traditional French cuisine featuring French onion soup, steak tartar, L'entrecote, lamb shank, escargot, risotto, fresh fish specials and the like. BUT these dishes are expertly prepared (they have a tv monitor in the tiny dining room that seats maybe 25 people) that shows the chef at work or you can just slightly turn your head if you're not facing the kitchen and watch as the chef does his magic in the open kitchen.
On the night my wife and I dined we ordered French onion soup and escargot as starters along with the cheese naan. The French onion soup was "good" but not great. Yes there was plenty of gruyere cheese on top and chocked full of onions (and plenty hot which sometimes restaurants fail to do) but we felt the broth lacked body...perhaps not enough burgundy wine or stock. Still quite good. The escargot was as good as we've had anywhere including what my mom has prepared which is saying a lot.
The cheese naan was an amazing surprise: more like an empenada filled with cheese. Two perfectly hot, doughy disks resembling more like pita bread that were gooey with molten cheese: almost a meal in itself.
Our entrees were L'entrecote and lamb shank. the L'entrecote was prepared perfectly and tender as can be. It was served with quartered red potatoes sauteed and crisp on the outside/tender on the inside. My only critique would be maybe a little less salt. The meat was of such a high quality that it really didn't need much seasoning.
The lamb shank was good but left us questioning what was missing. It was probably too "firm" and didn't have the kind of infused flavor that you would expect from a slow, long cooked cut of meat.
Book the table! You won’t be disappointed. Easily the best meal I’ve had in YEARS.
Thank you so much for your review and the kind words !!!!! we're looking forward to see you soon. :-) Regards, Marc. CEO L'APPART.
Food, service, ambiance was amazing. I’ll be back for sure.
L'Appart is a very cute, small restaurant, serving great French and French fusion food. The Lebanese influence as well as a bit of Indian beautifully compliments the meal choices. It's a small operation, quite intimate with very friendly attentive service and the prices are very reasonable. We will go again.
