L'Apicio is located at 13 E. 1st Street (between Bowery and 2nd Avenue). The Italian-inspired restaurant gets its name from the 18th century Italian cookbook, and brings Executive Chef Gabe Thompson's cravable modern Italian food to the East Village. L'Apicio offers a deep cocktail and wine program created by Beverage Director Joe Campanale, while Executive Pastry Chef Katherine Thompson oversees the pastry program. L'Apicio is open for dinner seven days a week and brunch on the weekends, featuring lounge and bar areas and outdoor seating, in addition to the main and private dining rooms.

We were surprised that this beautiful venue was quiet on a Friday night - however this meant it was perfect for conversation and a relaxed evening. Once I'd tasted the food I was even more surprised the place wasn't packed out - everything we had was perfect. The kale salad and pastas in particular were outstanding. My only complaint was that they didn't have one of the starters available - on a menu with only 12 dishes from top to bottom, everything should be available. Secondly, the service was a bit patchy, especially since the restaurant was empty. They accidentally brought someone else's mains to our table. I'd definitely go back though, for the food and the atmosphere.

Went with high hopes but disappointed on every level. Placed at the back of the restaurant which was cold in temperature and atmosphere. Wines by the glass were expensive ($18+) and not particularly good. Food was uninspired but well cooked. Icecream at the end was the low point and summed the evening up. 3 balls, each smaller then a ping pong ball and full of ice.

Came here with a group of 9 friends on a Friday night. Food, drinks, service, music (lots of awesome 80s) were perfect. Would definitely be coming back and recommend to everyone.

We will be back. We had a great meal at L'Apicio. Appetizers and entrees were great! Service was fantastic. Our waiter, Josh, was able to speak to all elements of the menu and helped us pick out a great wine. Anna & Lara were quite attentive & personable. We had the tuna crudo, arancini, steak and cod and all were delicious. After dinner we had a drink at the bar where the bartender, Davi, was just as personable. I recommend and look forward to going back.

L'Apicio was such a find - a nice East Village restaurant that could accommodate a large party on a Friday evening. No hassle getting a reservation, nice ambiance (maybe a little noisy if you're trying to have a conversation) and great food. The Brussels sprouts and arancini starters were especially good, and the pasta was fresh and perfectly portioned. The service was a teeny bit slow - we had to wait a bit to get bread and have our check picked up - but overall they were really great.

I rarely leave reviews but the last experience I had here was not really up to par with prior experiences. It was Valentine's Day and I wonder if the staffing situation was different because the food was cooked very differently from prior times. The olive oil cake dessert came on a dinner plate with messy blobs of whipped cream instead of "creme fraiche" or what was listed. Server was very abrupt and a bit rude. A quite baffling experience actually.

Our waiter literally could have cared less about what we ate, if we liked it, etc. It's not that he didn't know what we was doing, he just didn't give a you know what. POlenta is off the charts good (odd appetizer, more suitable as a side dish). Garlic bread is actually garlicky! Bartender was soooo nice and funny while we waited

We had a reservation for 8pm, but were seated at a high, tiny table in a random corner past the bar. The food was good, but service was slow and chaotic. The bill came and there was a mistake (charging us twice for one order of a side). We told the waiter to please remove it before charging our cards, but he didn't. We didn't want to wait another 30 minutes to have everything adjusted, so just took the price of the side it out of the tip.

We went to L'Apicio over a year ago and loved it! I was concerned with seeing the recent reviews but we were not disappointed! We were seated shortly after arriving and the server promptly gave us a complementary glass of champagne for our anniversary. The sommelier then advised us on a very different bottle of wine that we loved! To start we shared the arancini which was light and flavorful. I had the gnocchi which was melt in your mouth delicious! My husband had the parpadelle with duck which he loved (and is very picky with duck). For dessert we shared the olive oil cake which was light and paired beautifully with citrus fruit and the chocolate panna cotta which was decadent! Overall excellent service and delicious food - highly recommend L'Apicio!

My first time here but won't be my last. Lovely looking restaurants. Very warm and inviting. Food was really quite good. The pork belly with coddled egg was delicious but a tad difficult to split. My fault not the restaurants. I ordered simply. The spaghetti with meatballs. IT WAS DELICIOUS and truly enough to share. The meatballs were excellent and large. My friend ordered the gnocchi and they were not heavy at all. Very tasty as well. Dessert was the olive oil cake as I enjoy a good piece cake. This was a great one and again easy to share. It definitely earned a spot on my go-to list.

This was my second time here and it was not as good as I remember. We ordered the pappardelle and the chicken entree. The chicken was dry and the pappardelle was barely edible. The taste was way too strong so after a few bites you had to stop eating. Our server was subpar and seemed irritated we were even there. This experience was really disappointing, especially after how much I raved about the restaurant.

Would go back hands down to L'artusi (as I have been for years) for food mainly. Hostess and bartender were very nice and attentive. The waitstaff tried to take away my plate while there was still food on the table and had to literally ask for it back.

Consistently excellent food. Consistently lousy service. Not sure whether they are understaffed or if just the very young and seemingly inexperienced servers are overwhelmed but the service doesn't fit the prices or food quality.

The food here is excellent. But whoever is running the logistics of the restaurant is doing the rest of the operation a true disservice. We were seated almost an hour after our reservation and didn't see our entrees until another hour and a half later. Normally spotty service is something I can easily overlook; it sucks to focus on the negative at the expense of the night. But the service issues here were impossible to ignore. Ruined a special night. I really do wish them luck in fixing this. The food deserves better. And, frankly, so do the customers.

Starters were tasty however Focaccia was served cold just out of a refrigerator and clearly not fresh, Orecchiette pasta was too salty, Duck Pappardelle was over spiced with clove making it nearly inedible. Server forgot to place our order with the kitchen and didn't notice until we flagged him after 45 minutes waiting for starters.

I used to love this restaurant. But it has changed. More tables, different menu. It was so loud that I got a headache. The food was only fair. My pasta entree, which was the special, was weird and not enjoyable. I could not wait to get out of there.
