Beginning to lose it's luster. Outside of the Peking Duck, which is hard to find in Chicago, everything else is just meh. Not sure at this price point why they are giving you paper menus. Just a lot of better options around.

Went with our 2 kids and another family. Made reservations and at first things did not start off great as it took awhile to get seated and for us to order drinks. However, this was likely due to them being very busy and likely a long day overall for the staff following the St. Patrick’s day parade in town. Once we got settled in and placed our order we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. Be warned though the menu is huge so I recommend looking at it in advance to get an idea of what you may want to order at least for appetizers and a few mains as it can be overwhelming. Everything was very good from the appetizers to the mains, and also they were very generous with the scotch and whisky pours which improved a few moods after a long day on Michigan Ave. would definitely recommend and we will be back.

I was dining by myself and ordered the Mushu pork, which was delicious and truly enough for two people! I also ordered a Manhattan that was so good and the price for my dinner and drinks was very reasonable.

My mapo tofu was literally not even spicy. What is the point of non spicy mapo tofu. I know white people can’t handle spice but if I wanted non spicy inauthentic Chinese food I would have gone to Panda Express. Lao sze chaun is my favorite place to get Chinese food and I highly recommend them. But plz y’all, keep it spicy and authentic, or at least ask if I want it spicy. Anyway, I still recommend Lao sze chaun overall and they do a great job.

The service here is pretty good, the waiters are nice. They helped us get a bigger table since we ordered a lot of food for two. The chili chicken was amazing and so was the beef and broccoli, but you have to get the xiao long bao!

Great location, we met up for a dinner meeting and the restaurant was very accommodating. It took a while before our server came to introduce themselves, about 20mins, but everything else went well!

It’s not only magnificent, but it’s fun and and a delightful experience in exquisite dining. The menus is extensive and the dim sum is better than you could find in China itself. It’s our favorite. It’s romantic at night and always great for a family adventure.

Had a lovely time dining at Lao Sze Chuan! Our server was extremely helpful with questions I had about spice levels (I'm a fan of spicy food🌶️). I want to mention the owner of Lao Sze, he went out of his way to make us an order of fresh crispy buns when we learned that the chef who makes them was out that evening. Excellent service, 10/10 would recommend

The dry chili chicken was excellent. The squid was tough [I would not order this in the future] but served with a nice array of veg. The duck broth soup was quite bland and not served very hot. In the past I’ve ordered the filet Mongolian Beef and have been very happy. Service was excellent.

After sitting for 35 minutes and never being acknowledged, the server walked past several tables to say “i’ll be there eventually”. Severely understaffed, we saw many others in the same boat. Disappointed as I read good reviews, but I would not recommend wasting your time here.

Service and food wasn’t the same as when we visited In 2015, food was cold when it got to our table, server was not attentive to our needs, ordered more food and the old plates were never picked up prior to our second batch of food. Won’t be visiting this restaurant again when coming to Chicago.

Loved the dishes we ordered! Had the half duck, soup dumplings and the flat rice noodles with shrimp, all delicious. Every restaurant is low on servers right now, so I don’t hold any place to high expectations. The service was pleasant and they attended to all our needs. Will be back!
