Peking Duck Noodle Soup
Olga, our waitress and bartender and hostess was fabulous. Recommend the Master Chef Tian’s Peking Duck. Best we have had since Beijing. Cocktails were tasty and generous.
Sunday lunch for diim sum… everything we had was good, but the menu was very limited
Great location on Michigan the food is fabulous a bit noisy but not bad at all. We will be back.
When my family has a craving for Peking Duck, this is where we go! But of course we have other favorites we must get every time too like Chef’s Special dry chili chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Szechuan Twice Cooked Pork. Everything really hit the spot. It’s really excellent values too considering everything else has gone up more in prices recently. A real gem in downtown Chicago!
We r downhill. Used to be a favorite.
Nice looking quiet place, good food. A bit overpriced.
I understand that we are still in the middle of a pandemic but if someone would communicate that a establishment is short staff, we as the consumers would understand. My reservation was at 745 PM , we arrived at 720. No one was at the hostess station. Then as worker moved a about no one acknowledge me or anything. When I finally got recognized it was in a rush and it seem as if they were talking through me. When we finally got seated it took 15 minutes to get just water, let's not talk about the length of time to take my order. From the time we walked into this restaurant, from the time we cashed out was approximately three hours entirely to long from the service and quality of the food.
Food was ordinary
Place was crazy … sat at table that was so close to other table we may as well of just joined them too cramped ! Service very very very slow not her fault im thinking low in staff ordered martini came in a champagne glass she said they ran out of martini glasses ! Bathroom was just disgusting 🤢 never seen a worse one ! Had to ask for everything she was so busy she couldnt keep up took over 2 hrs but the food was very good
Service was poor, food was oily and chewy, had them refund our meal.
Even if you have a reservation, it doesn’t matter. I waited 30 mins until being seated. I think it could have been managed better because there were only 3 servers for a full restaurant. No one acknowledged anyone in line and was a free for all depending on your table size. Some people who just got there was sat down immediately due their party size. I did feel bad for the restaurant working due to the capacity. The manager and my waiter were the best. The manager came out to sit people and the waiter was really nice. I wish it would have been reservation only
Great food! I would definitely visit again.
We loved the Mongolian beef and the Xiao long baos (soup dumplings). Unfortunately, the number 1 rated dish (dry chili chicken) and the szechuan chicken were not that tasty in our opinion. But, the experience was still wonderful and we will return to this classic Chinese restaurant to discover other delicious dishes sometime in the future. Thanks for having us!
Just as good as the Chinatown location. It’s a relaxed family friendly environment that allows for a leisurely gathering over the shared table with the lazy Susan to aide the sharing of the delicious plates.
Extensive menu. Good food. Convenient location on Michigan Avenue
Sheng jian bao changed my life!!
Not worth the visit and parking to get there.
Best Chinese dumplings!!
The food is so delicious at this restaurant. It is so unique. I visit every time I am in Chicago... Must not miss!
Food was greasy, very pushy server since we sat down kept saying kitchen is closing. Uncooked food and no flavor.
Our food was very good, and the service was great. My main complaint would be that the tables are very close together. I don't really want to hear other people's conversations, whether in English or Chinese! (It is good to see many Chinese-appearing people eating in a Chinese restaurant--it speaks well for the authenticity of the food)
Our favorite dining experience in Chicago for Chinese food.
Thanksgiving was busy but service was still absolutely spot on. Food selections were terrific.
We ate at Lao Sze Chuan 4 times while we visited Chicago for 5 days! The food here was very good, we loved the spicy fish. It was a whole fresh fish, filleted, fried and cooked in a spicy sauce. We tried their noodles, fried dumplings and vegetables and they are all very good. They were crowded on a Sunday evening, but the 2 staff, Laurie and Jennie, did a great job handling everything. We will definitely return when we are in Chicago again.
Great! Waitress was nice and attentive
Just not good. Only one good plate of the four we ordered.
Service was slow, and inattentive. We visited he Chicago location from Houston, and wanted to take a friend that lives in Chicago to try Lao, because we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The location in Houston is so much better.
Good food. Good service. We’ll go again.
Authentic Asian and an amazing selection makes this a destination must.
The ambiance and food were delicious as usual.
Great service and food! The chilli bean soy fish is a MUST
Delicious food, busy atmosphere (we arrived early for our reservation and the host made us wait through several walk-ins, about half hour wait...). Our waitress was helpful and quick, and all in all, we enjoyed our time.
Has reservations but don’t honor should up on time had no table ready. Waited 20 minutes for another table.
There were only 2 servers on the whole restaurant. She took our order and brought us our food and that was it. It even took awhile to ask for a fork. I had to get up and ask the host. The manager was also really rude when we were leaving. He was basically on his cell phone the entire time.
Consistently a good overall experience with a variety of selections. Enjoyed the duck
we waited 2 hrs for our food. Asked staff for water and waited for 30 minutes
Service is average but good by Chinese restaurant standard. Restaurant was understaffed so service is slow. The food is dried but otherwise tasty. Tables are closer together than they should be resulting higher than expected noise level.
Worst experience at Lao Sze Chuan. Quality of the service and food has atrophied. Service was one of the worst I have ever received in Chicago; it is okay to be short staffed but not rude and mindless. soupless Xiao long bao, mis shaped wood ear mushrooms, spiced fish with tail and spiced cauliflower with chunks of bacon all get an F. Feeling bad for Chef Tony.
