   Lantern is one of the very best restaurants in the region. Every time we have dined there has been an excellent experience . The bar room is a cool environment with red walls and Chinese lanterns. The food is creatively prepared and presented, and the seafood is always super fresh, perfectly cooked, and brought to the table piping hot. The servers are excellent, and we like Lantern’s fair wage policy. In short, if you’re up for Asian fusion cuisine you can’t do better than Lantern!

   Our food choices were very good; my only issue was with the duck, which was somewhat overcooked. Service was outstanding; our server, Gus, was attentive and helpful, and made some excellent suggestions on wine. Not only a great waiter, but an accomplished sommelier!

   everytime i go to lantern i think it cannot get better but it does - had just a great dinner - the spring rolls were just fantastic and the pork rib outstanding - and the sakitini.... what can i say - wait staff were helpful but not intrusive - had just a wonderful dining experience, as i have come to expect from lantern....

   Mocktail was tasteless. Apps were good. We were a party of four. The two who had the duck entree both thought it was terrible. Severely overcooked. The two who ordered the steamed fish felt it was much too hot after being told it was mild when asked prior to ordering. Difficult to eat.

   Small plates were all spot on: crab and pork rolls, chaat, and salt & pepper shrimp all absolutely delicious with generous portions. Pork chop with papaya salad was fine but the meat portion was way larger than necessary -- the dish would be better served as a traditional papaya salad with marinated pork cut up and mixed in. Skip the hot chocolate cake -- it's tiny, expensive, and not better than what you can get at home.

   Duck, both soup and entrée were terrific as were the pea shoot dumplings though the sauce was a touch bland... drinks were very good and the roasted banana sundae dessert excellent. Service also fantastic. Bar area seating was a bit loud for conversation is my only criticism- regular dining room seating was booked (or just not available online, not sure) for any day I checked so that was only indoor offered to me.

    Lantern is an iconic restaurant in our area. The service is above par and the food is always delicious. The cocktails are another highlight. My husband and I are chose to reserve a table in the bar, and this spot is lively and fun. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

    We usually love Lantern; they must've been having an off night. Half of our food didn't come after ~40 minutes and our server was missing behind the bar, so I had to ask a few times for our food. Even after I asked, it seemed another item was forgotten. We lost our appetite while waiting for our food for over an hour. The server was nice about it; I'm guessing he was just stretched thin. A let-down of a night :(

    We were a party of 3, and they still added 18% tip though I thought the service was far from satisfactory. (They missed one of my orders and were super slow.)

    we ate in the bar at lantern, what a vibrant spot - the food, drink and wait staff were all spectacular as they always are, they never miss a beat, just beautiful food that tastes as good as it look - by far our favorite place in the triangle to eat!!

    The service was great as was the outside seating. A 18 percent charge is added to the bill And the server mentioned a tip. I have more but my friends did not they were a little offended. The food was good the portions were not large.

    Never disappointing. Great outdoor dining and people watching. Food was excellent as always and the sakitini just delicious. No complaints here, will come back as often as i can. great place to bring out-of-towners to show of our excellent restaurants in chapel hill!

    The most minor service hiccups were totally understandable as they had a large 8-top sit right as we did. Really lovely staff and excellent meal.

    Dishes were very hit or miss and the misses were pretty bad in my opinion. Service was a bit spotty as well. We sat with no drinks or tons of a bunch of dirty dishes on our table for a while but our main server was very friendly. Ambiance is very nice.

    Very disappointing experience. We’re accustomed to great dining experiences in our area and the Lantern did not measure up. Our seating was uncomfortable and the table rocked every time I put my elbow down. It took 15 minutes to get our bottle of wine after ordering. My entree arrived luke warm at best and was remade. Unfortunately by the time I received my hot entree my husband had finished his. The only response from the restaurant was we’re sorry, hope you give us another chance. We will definitely steer clear of the Lantern when there are so many wonderful dining options in the area.

    My husband ordered three appetizers, and three of us ordered one appetizer and one entree. His three appetizers came right away. After 45 minutes our appetizers arrived. Then dinner arrived. The black drum was very fresh and cooked perfectly. The seat was extremely uncomfortable.

    Went to Lantern for an anniversary. It’d been years since we ate there and this time was every bit as great if not batter than we remembered it being. Service was superb. Every dish was superb. New outdoor patio is comfortable and nicely done. Definitely one of the better restaurants in this area.

    wow - what can you say - lantern is fantastic every time you go. seems to get better and better. great sitting outside on a beautiful night under the awning - the apps were fantastic, in particular the pork and chive dumplings - the pork was just great, and the sunday, the service was spectacular and the sakitini was just lovely - will be back soon and often

    We had a great anniversary dinner! Server was really knowledgeable and friendly. Dumplings were incredible. We got two different desserts - panna cotta was great, but the ice cream sundae felt like it had a lot of freezer burn.

    An absolutely wonderful experience, as always! The food, the service and the ambiance were all perfect. It was a beautiful night, a musician was playing across the street, and the awning was delightfully lit up with string lights. It was relaxing and magical, and we enjoyed great food, dining al fresco.

    Had much higher expectations. Most of the indoor space was "under construction" and off limits. Disappointed this was not noted on any online information include company website. After having long term reservations and waiting 15 minutes for a table standing outside, we were seated in the bar area by bathroom doors, in a corner, with all wait staff traffic going by our table. The waitress was superb in her attention to detail and in being of service. Food was good, but given the price and MANDATORY 18% "fair wage upcharge that only a percentage goes to the waitress helping us, was not appreciated. We were also informed if we elected to tip extra - then yet again, out waitress would only receive a portion after it was divided among ALL staff. Boo

    First visit to Lantern (finally). Ate at a bar table. Great cozy sexy atmosphere. Service was impeccable. Overall the food was delicious - Tom Kai Gai, Crispy Local Okra, and Sichuan Dumplings were among the favorites (pea shoot dumplings were very bland - don't recommend). Had 3 desserts (Peach Melba, Hot Chocolate Cake, Fig Sundae) and all were unique and superb. Menu is limited so we look forward to visiting again in the next menu "season".
