Weekly Pasta Special
Grilled Grass Fed Strip Steak with Tuffled fries
Medici spiced Wild Boar Bolognese Parmigiano
What a fantastic neighborhood gem. The food was delicious and the service was warm and welcoming.
Pappardelle with lamb ragu was delicious.....other things we had not so great. Tuna carpaccio was thick slabs of tuna that weren't cut well so it was stringy - and not at all carpaccio. Pasta with anchovies and long hots desperately needed salt and was a very tiny portion - barely a starter size. Pappardelle was twice the amount of food, much more complex (and tasty) and only cost $2 more. Dessert was odd...the sorbet had a fishy taste to it and the pistachio gelato seemed that they forgot to add sugar. We had already complained about the one pasta otherwise would have sent that back. That being said...the server was really nice and the ambiance was lovely.
We had a nice night at L’Anima. Good work from Gianluca and team.
Excellent server Adam
Would def go back
The gnocchi is FANTASTIC!! I’ve always walked past there and never stopped in, but wow, I’m so glad I did. The food is incredible, atmosphere is great, and our waitress Liz was awesome! I’m kicking myself for not dining there more often. I will absolutely be back and eat my weight in pasta.
Overall the food is very good. I had arctic char which was delicious. My dining partner had the gnocchi which she liked very much. The server was very sweet and appropriately attentive. Just a very nice, quiet neighborhood restaurant that is consistently good.
There was a hair in my food.
Hostess was disrespectful. Probably not her fault but how she was trained.
I would have given 4.5 stars if that were an option. My co-diner got the pappardelle and thoroughly enjoyed it although I thought the portion size was a bit small as an entree. The price was very reasonable so maybe a little larger size and a little larger price. I had the Branzino, shrimp and calamari- SO GOOD! My co-diner shared some with me because this was a very generous portion. We had a 5:45 reservation and were hoping to sit outside, but all the seats were occupied, a lot of young families with strollers. When we left around 7 pm, there were open seats outside. We would return
Based on my once visit it’s wild this place has 4.5 stars on here.
I don’t know if I’ll be back; if I lived within a few blocks sure. Food is underwhelming. Service is prompt. There are a million babies there at 6pm on a Saturday.
I wish I could remember the name of our server - he was the best part of our meal and was great overall.
The playlist was wack. Super on the nose 80s greatest hits from eye of the tiger to another one bites the dust to karma chameleon. Non of these songs are offensive on their own but one after another are not ideal for Saturday night dining. Little effort into curating the ambiance.
One of our favorites, weekly specials, wonderful and extensive choices, we are there all the time.
Fantastic meal and wonderful environment. I would happily return to try more dishes!
We love this place. Amazing food. Amazing, friendly service! Thanks, Adam!
Always a great experience. Delicious, quality good.
Food was excellent and service was as well. Priced nicely and a byob...cant go wrong.
All 6 of us had an exceptional meal and evening at L'anima, again. While it would have been better to be outdoors, there was a major thunderstorm so that wasn't possible. Still, it was a great evening and each of us loved our meals. Gnocci like scrumptious feather clouds lightly sauced in a very delicate Alfredo with spinach, Mint Papparadelle with a lamb and ricotta sauce, steak frites, the always perfect Amatriciana Tomato, the Fettunta, Tuna Crudo and Caesar salad were all exceptional. And best of all, Adam, who was perfect in every way.
BYOB. Five star cuisine, new specials every week, we go there all the time.
We were a large (birthday) party and the attention and set up we received was excellent! All food for our group was delivered at once - everything was 'as ordered' and the server made sure there were no concerns throughout the evening!
For a neighborhood moderately-priced restaurant, L'Anima is excellent. Just keep your expectations in line with this reality. It is not Gran Caffe L'Aquila. It's a trattoria in a neighborhood that desperately needed such a place (anyplace really to eat). Menus items are inventive, or perhaps more-or-less standard Italian with trendy twists (e.g., octopus in a lemon cream sauce). Portions tend to be Italian-American (not Italian); that is, large. Prices truly are moderate, and being BYOB is greatly appreciated. Service was attentive. Noise level -- the huge advantage once the weather is good is that there is a very large, paved area outside the restaurant (which is L-shaped). In fact, that area has more room for tables than inside. This area existed before the pandemic (why the developer of this recently built apartment building left so much vacant space is unknown). It is pleasant in good weather. The noise level inside is higher because of the industrial look with all hard surfaces (nothing soft at all to absorb sound so the noise level rapidly escalates as the place fills up).
Great spot overall. It’s byo which is an added bonus. We came in to try the cacio e Pepe which we heard was unbeatable. Every dish we ordered was amazing! I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend the fried burrata if it’s on the specials. A friend and I split two apps and an entree and the servings were perfect.
The food is excellent, and so is the service. We sat inside, though the outside seating looked really nice—next time I think I’d choose to sit outside in fine weather. Waiter was attentive, helpful, personable.
Restaurant was a little noisy. Food was good but not great. The pasta special was strange but ok octopus with pasta and cream sauce Italians don’t mix daily with seafood. Now I know why. My bronzino had and overly charred taste that overwhelmed the fish. The calamari and shrimp charing was less and ok.
The music was so loud it was almost as if it was a club. Furthermore, even the songs were like that of a club. Loud, repeated noise. “Ice, ice baby. Ice, ice baby. Ice, ice, baby” on and on for example. Did not seem the type that would go with the clientele and it seems the young staff were completely mistreating the type and sound of music. I will thank that after I asked twice if they could lower the music they finally did. The food was amazing but please have a talk with staff about music and volume
We sat outside in the plaza under shelter enjoying the corner ambience at this fast upscaling neighborhood. Excellent service from Julio, they have good server to patron ratio so you are never waiting. Food was fine., I would wprk my way around the menu abit more before saying if it could stand up to other excellent Italian BYOBs.
We were a party of 4 and shared the crespelles (a special) and the meatballs. For the main courses two of us had the salmon special, I had the squid ink pasta, and one person got the pork. Every one of these dishes was excellent. The desserts were tempting and we got one of each of the 4. The molten chocolate cake was the best, although the others were really good too. The evening would not have been the same without our server, Adam's friendly and professional service.
Pinza was very tasty, the amatriciana was excellent and so was the strip steak. Gelato OK not great, but the olive oil cake was really good.
Thank you for a fabulous dining experience for my husband's birthday. The service was perfect and the food was outstanding! I'm so thrilled to have this restaurant in my neighborhood!!
Great food and great service. Lovely outside space with tables
spaced far enough apart. Definitely recommend.
We dined outside early Saturday evening (reservation was for 5:15) and there were lots of families with small children/infants. The service was great, the children joyful (and quiet), and the food delicious.
Very limited menu. Please read the menu before you go.
I got pork chop but not much more to pick from in my menu.
Service was outstanding.
One of our favorite restaurants, the food is beyond outstanding.
One of the best Philadelphia restaurants for outside dining.
Wonderful family birthday celebration. We had 12 or 14 different dishes and loved everything. Our new favorite restaurant!.
We celebrated our anniversary with friends and it was absolutely fantastic. Excellent food and great service. What more do you want?
Great safety measures and spacing inside, lovely outdoor space ... meal was pretty much flawless!
The service was excellent, it was so nice to have the courses be spaced out and not served on top of one another. We were not rushed and were able to really appreciate the food and the setting. The Branzino dish was dripping in oil, literally too much oil was applied and I ended up leaving half of the dish. The appetizers of Burrata cheese and prosciutto were excellent and very generous in portions. The carbonara pizza was delicious and highly recommended, we will definitely be back!
I unfortunately came away from my meal at L'Anima disappointed. My companion and I started with the tuna crudo and the mozzarella pinsa, both of which were fairly bland, the pinsa in particular just made no impression on me at all beyond the fact that it was cheese and bread. We followed with the biggest let-down of the night: the cacio e pepe. Oddly enough it was served with tubular pasta rather than spaghetti or tonnarelli, and it just looked like it had sat in the window for too long before coming out to us. Rather than silky and emulsified, the sauce and chunky and congealed. Really really disappointing.
What completely saved the meal, however, was the tonnarelli, exactly the kind of dish we were looking for. A gorgeous pile of dark pasta and salty tuna balanced perfectly with the spice and funk of the 'nduja that I've been thinking about since we finished it (with the excellent house bread). We finished with the grigliata, which had a lovely char from the grill but was otherwise unremarkable.
Service was excellent, and I was particularly pleasantly surprised to find my bottle of prosecco, which I had left on the table when I went to use the restroom, already in a chiller with two flutes waiting for me when I got back. That's attention to detail! The espresso was also excellent.
I really want to come back and try the rest of the pastas - with the tonnarelli being as good as the cacio was bad, maybe there's some balance to be found in the rest of the menu?
The food was promptly served and was exceptionally good
we love the cacio e pepe, amatriciana, and their specials are amazing. perfect little neighborhood spot with outdoor dining :)
Welcome and service were exceptional. Very friendly without being too chummy. Good was very good and pricing is fair. great atmosphere outside and everyone appeared to be safety conscious.
I love places like this nestled just outside of the chaos....the hustle and bustle of central city...we found a parking spot outside. Byob, i like that , alot ; A syrah too bold for the light and fresh apps, but just right for the ravioli in a truffle cream sauce and neopolitin inspired pizza. The caesar salad wasnt traditional....spring mix instead of usual romaine...blistered tomatoes. The dressing was the salty and richness that i like...and the anchovies were not the hairy salty specimens we’re used to. The procsiutto from the fettunta was slightly thicker than i like. the ravioli with truffle cream sauce and mushrooms was very rich and creamy...maybe slightly more truffle would be fair. mushrooms cooked 30 seconds less ,maybe. the salmon was excellent, cooked medium ,very moist with a crispy skin....lemon bur blanc sauce fresh and rich. didnt care for the potatoes it came with...novice. the plain pizza my dining partner-in-crime got had great texture, crispy crust but chewy body...the cheese was good but lacked a real bite...the dough needed more salt...the fresh mozz was light and creamy....nothing to write home about overall with this plain one...maybe id give the others a shot instead. overall id definitely come back as their menu has many more tasty options id give a try. i like how the place is small and personal.
