We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters. Everything is cooked on the premises, including the sourdough bread and the icecreams.
The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing.

Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. However, we cannot cater for vegans.

Due to current government Covid-19 rules, we cannot welcome a party larger than 6p. We welcome parties 8-12p on a general basis. However, for Saturday nights we are only able to accommodate a maximum of 8p. For larger parties (13–32), we are happy to create special menus which you and your guest preorder from. The latter would be available Wednesday to Friday, Saturday lunch, and Sunday lunch.You can only book a maximum of 6 people via Open Table. Please call us if your party is larger than that and we are happy to assist to find a suitable time for you.

Our first visit to the Landgate will hopefully be the first of many in the future. Everything about it was first class. Thank you Landgate for a wonderful experience.

An amazing dining experience. From the moment we entered to the moment we left we were made to feel special. We shared the Lobster Risoni, which was one of the nicest dishes I have had in a long time, rich and decadent, an ideal sharer. We both had the Romney Marsh Lamb 3 ways, once again a truly scrumptious dish. The quality of the food and service belie the pricing, I would have willingly paid far more. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Langdale.

We dined here based on the bistro appearing in “Where chefs eat”. We were not disappointed! It’s a great place to eat and we’ll certainly go back if we return to lovely Rye. Thoroughly recommendable, both Rye and this restaurant in particular.

Fabulous meal and excellent service from knowledgeable staff. The scallop starter was a generous size and the lamb three ways was really delicious and as the designated driver I appreciated the option to have a mocktail. The restaurant is quite unassuming from the outside but well worth a visit for truly great food and good value too.

Excellent all round, Michelin-star food without the London prices. Great range of dishes with local ingredients, strong wine list plus cocktails and recommendations. And a very lovely vibe inside.

We had a fantastic meal here. The chef is creative and talented and, for the quality, we thought excellent value for money. Lovely staff, relaxing setting.
