About Lambert's Downtown BBQ
Lamberts Downtown Barbecue, located in the 2nd Street District of downtown Austin, features modern Texas classics in a hiply restored historic building. With an emphasis on fresh local ingredients and all natural meats, produce, and seafood, Lamberts has invented "Fancy Barbecue." The beautifully restored Schneider Store, located on the corner of Guadalupe and 2nd streets, features an open kitchen and dining room on the first floor, with outdoor patio seating available. Lambert's Downtown BBQ Ratings and Reviews
Very good quality food but definitely a bit upscale compared to many other of Austin's BBQ restaurants. Might return if an occasion warrants the atmosphere, but would probably choose more casual places for equally good BBQ, and save some $$ in the process. The room I ate in was fairly quiet at 6pm on a Wednesday night, but by 7pm my dinner partner and I were shouting to be heard across the small table for two. This is probably unavoidable in any venue that mixes a bar and a restaurant.
A party of four went to Lambert's for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon. We made our reservations on OpenTable and were seated immediately. The ambiance is nice and the upstairs bar/entertainment area looked like it would be great fun.
We ordered the boar ribs appetizers and various meat platters consisting of: chicken, hot link, brisket, pulled pork and chopped beef with sides of mac & cheese, collard greens, beans, slaw and waffle fries. While the two platters cost $2 dollars more, the brisket/pulled pork combo had far less meat on it than the brisket platter or the chicken/hot link combo. The wild bore ribs were excellent. The other meat was tasty, but not the best Austin has to offer. As for the side, the mac & cheese was excellent and the collard greens were under cooked and tasted down right awful. The beans, slaw and waffle fries were good. The 4 small cornbread muffins that were served at the beginning of the meal were stale and lackluster in taste.
I also ordered a Naked and Famous cocktail. Which I questioned the waitress if the correct cocktail was delivered because there was not a hint of smoke that Mezcal should offer. She said they make it subtle. I said it was over acidic and not balanced. She shrugged and walked away.
From the time we were seated to the time we left was close to 90 minutes. I am hard pressed to understand why our order would have taken so long. To add salt to the wound, there was a table for two that was seated after us that came and went in half the time.
Table for two- we shared the following: Pulled pork, mac and cheese (funky!) broccoli and wild boar ribs. More than enough food for the two of us. We enjoyed going family style as we stopped for dinner after a long day of walking with a long night of walking and exploring Austin ahead of us.
Food was fantastic but the service was a little lacking. The waitress was very nice but rarely checked up on us. The noise was very bad where my girlfriend and I were seated. We could barely hear each other but that's not necessarily the restaurant's fault.
We have always wanted to try Lambert’s and we’re excited to celebrate our 15th anniversary there. While the staff was very friendly and wished us a happy anniversary, we were annoyed at the table we were given. We were seated right next to a large, loud table of 10 and our seats were perpendicular to a few of theirs so often someone would back their chair right into our seats!
The wait for this place is often months. I think this will be our first and last time there. The server was fine but nothing exceptional. There is a lot of bbq in austin, and this wasn’t one of the best.
The food was Excellent!!!! But the service was extremely slow even though they weren't crowded. We waited close to 5 mins at the hostess stand to be seated for our reservation. They forgot about the deviled eggs we ordered. Then our waiter disappeared after dropping off the check so we ended up taking it up to the bar and asked the bartender to run it. He couldn't do it and had to wait to find a waiter to hand it off to. Hoping it was just an off day due to the UT game and ACL Fest going on.
Best Brisket ever. We each had a three meat plate, giving us one of each selection - pulled pork, pork ribs, hot link, chicken, and a double dose of beef Brisket. Outstanding BBQ, excellent sides, upscale atmosphere. Server seemed to be spread a little thin and could have taken our order a bit more punctually but one he got thing going all was good. The restaurant was packed for lunch at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon.
lOVE lOVE lOVE the Ribeye steak at Lamberts. You can't find another in the city with this kind of flavor. Staff is nice, prompt and courteous. Super delicious food.
Not handicapped accessible. Bathrooms are UPSTAIRS!!!!! Too tight for wheelchairs to maneuver easily.

Only slight moot point was not been able to take home leftovers-greedy customers have abused this in the past but a judgement call could be made when it's obvious you're not abusing the system
Staff very friendly and helpful
Very disappointing. The food was overpriced and brisket was skimpy and a bit dry, chicken breast dry. Brussel sprouts and Mac n cheese were excellent and plentiful. The ambiance was pleasant but noisy, tables took close together. If we ever went back it would only be to enjoy the sides.
My ice cream arrived with wax paper, likely to wrap it for freezing. When pointing this out to our server, she whisked away our bill and returned with having comped the ice cream as well as my two drinks. This was very generous and appreciated. // I was concerned about the noise for my mom and they were very ameniable to seating us outdoors or inside, depending on our needs. They asked us to call to update if we wanted to do so prior to our arrival.
We sat on the outdoor patio and ate some amazing food. Highly recommend the green chile queso drip, droolworthy. The pulled pork and brisket were also very delicious. The service was a little slow but might have been because we were outside and slightly forgotten about, but overall a great high-end BBQ experience
This was a great meal overall. The wild boar ribs were fantastic as an appetizer, and the brisket and brussels sprout were excellent. The pork ribs weren't the best we've had, but were still above average. House old fashioned and the mojito we had prior to dinner were also very good - $2 less at the bar during happy hour.
Terrible beyond words. This was the worst restaurant we've ever been to. The app ribs were dry and the brisket meal was even dryer. The worst is everything came out cold. We asked if it was supposed to be cold and the server laughed. They brought us a new plate which they must of zapped in the microwave for 30 seconds aka it was maybe semi-warm. I would never go back or recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.
My second visit to Lambert's and just as great as the first time. I received a confirmation call the day of my reservation, and explained the reason for the reservation was to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Lambert's surprised my boyfriend (and me too) with an amazing dessert after dinner, which was so thoughtful of them. It was a wonderful evening with great service and dinner!
Regular customer, but this time they missed the mark. Initially, they brought us 2 lunch plates that we didn't order. Then they returned with only 1 plate, while the other one took an additional 5 minutes to come - and it was again wrong. The guy bringing the lunch apologized and returned a few minutes later with the correct meal. Our waitress initially stopped by to apologize that she messed up the order, but then didn't see her much until she brought the check. I thought she might have adjusted the bill due to all the confusion, but no such luck. I was entertaining a work associate and was somewhat embarrassed I took her here.
Very good food and service was undercut by their aggressive policy on the "brunch buffet" - they would only seat you in the non-bar area if you agreed to order the full barbecue all you can eat buffet, even though there was more listed on the menu. Then, when we couldn't finish the initial "all you can eat" platter, they refused to let us take any of the food home with us. I get it that they don't want people abusing the "all you can eat" policy, but we were just talking about taking home the original amount they brought out. We probably won't eat there again since it was like interacting with lawyers and that isn't why we go out for barbecue on a Sunday afternoon.
New to Texas, looked forward to trying texas barbecue in a restaurant with a good reputation, the brisket was dry and ordinary, I'm sure barbecue is not supposed to be like that. Wine by the glass (not inexpensive) was served in tumblers, not wine glasses. Odd idea, perhaps they ran out of glassware? We didn't see any benefit from booking the table, we were only offered 6pm, this was too early but the reputation of the restaurant led us to accept it. We won't do that again.
We appreciated that several menu items were cold-smoked, not just the BBQ for which this restaurant is known. The green chile con queso had lots of fresh mix-ins and was very tasty. The craft cocktail list had something for everyone and the menu had lots of variety. Particularly good were the bibb lettuce salad, the stuffed quail and the cold-smoked rainbow trout. The basil ice cream served with pineapple upside down cake for dessert was a nice touch.
Located in downtown Austin, Lambert’s offers good BBQ in a nice dining location. For appetizers, we got the Deviled Eggs and Wild Boar Ribs. For entrees, we got the Black Angus Brisket, the Pork Ribs, the Quail, and the Jalapeno Hot Links. For dessert, we got the Sopapilla Cheesecake and Pineapple Upside Down Cake, which were alright. All the dishes came out great, even the Grilled dishes that are probably not as widely looked at the smoked dishes. Service was prompt. We sat near the stage though there was no music at the time we dined. The ambience was good as we sat upstairs near the bar. All in all, we got very tasty dishes and a fine experience.
