Lalime's Ratings and Reviews
Power was out but candles were lit on tables, people were eating, and food was being served. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and were ignored for 10 minutes until we got the bartender's attention and were told someone would be with us shortly. Ten minutes later, after continuing to be ignored, we left.
I love Lalimes . It was New Year’s Eve and they ran out of some of the Pre Fixe Items. Service was VERY slow but food was delicious
Had to take desert to go as we had been there for 3 hours! Waiter was overwhelmed which was too bad
I will go back but was pretty bummed
When we arrived for our prix fixe dinner on New Year's Eve promptly the restaurant wasn't ready for us. Our waiter was indifferent and either knew nothing about the wines that we had paired with our dinner or failed to share or explain what he might have known. The food was okay, but unremarkable at best. After spending over $300 for an indifferent meal with an indifferent waiter we said to each other, "We're never coming back here again."
We've been devoted to Lalime's for many, many years. We've spent many Christmas Eve dinners here, and we were prepared for a lovely evening. There has clearly been a significant turnover in waitstaff, as the folks who'd served us so well in the past were nowhere to be seen. Our waiter knew nothing about the fix prix main course, and couldn't tell us anything about the wine. One member of our party ordered the most expensive main course entree, the steak, and it was inedible--tough and easily 75% fat (the plate that went back to the kitchen was filled with fat and gristle). We should have sent the steak back to the kitchen, but we'd waited so long to get our food that we didn't want to wait longer before we could leave. We were sorely disappointed, and miss the Lalime's food and service that we once loved.
We had not been here in many years but were very pleased with this return visit. The staff and service were attentive and friendly, appropriate for a family run business. The meal was very good beginning with mixed bites and tasty pardons peppers, followed by a delightful fall salad and a savory tart. The entree we shared was a halibut that was a little lacking in sparkle and taste but good nevertheless. We finished off with a yummy chocolate mousse and a very flavorful apple galette. One of the best parts of the meal was that all entrees were under $30 including a rib-eye steak that we might have next time. We will definitely be back sooner than later.
The food was good, and the wine was too for the usual $11/glass price range, but the service was odd. Have you ever had a waitress in a somewhat upscale restaurant tell you that she couldn't take your food order because she has another table ahead of you? I mean, the waitress could have taken our appetizer order with our drink order (we weren't visible to the other table anyway), and then put the food orders in any order she liked. Of course, it is often first come, first served, though not always, but it's just crass to mention it, and then to have extensive conversations with two adjacent tables, and apologize for not bringing our dessert menus, because the other table was "regulars." Plus, the loud conversation between the waitress and the "regulars" made the member of our party who is hard of hearing miss our conversation completely, though she was too polite to ask for a repeat of all that she missed. The hostess was odd too, saying that a party that was seated in the entryway waiting for a table (and seemed to be saying they were without a reservation) needed to be seated because they had a baby. Nevermind, that one of our party is elderly and was not comfortable standing in the narrow entryway. We'll think twice about going for a special dinner there again.
The four of us applauded the food and service. The cocktails were spot on and the wines excellent from a sparkling rose to a Syrah. The starters ranging from black bean soup and scallops with chanterelles to gem salad with pomegranates were scrumptious. The entrees showed the same outstanding quality. We can’t wait to return!
Great dinner - just a last minute change of plans - spectacular salad that we split - and we're not salad junkies but it was just about perfect - scallops that were not overcooked - nice wines, I had a good cider - professional wait staff - one of our best meals in 2017...
The plates and food could have been warmer. Had to send food back midmeal to heat up the food. Just a few vegetarian offerings; only pasta. The chocolate mousse dessert was very good, one of us reports. The halibut was good, although it was a small portion. The vegetarian lasagna seemed quite creative. Good fillings. Great texture. We felt pushed to order additional dishes.
Lalime's is just marvelous! The atmosphere is great, and the food is interesting and delicious. We had salads and vegetarian lasagne, and they were fresh and perfectly seasoned. We had a "granita" dessert that was delicate and rich at the same time. The service was friendly and professional. This was really a great meal!
We lived in the area near Lalimes since getting married in 1979. We now live in Tucson, AZ. We were visiting the area and staying with friends in Hercules. We decided to take them to Lalimes for dinner. They had never been to the restaurant. I have become a vegetarian since my last time to Lalimes. I had the pasta entree, the marinated olives, and the squash soup. My wife had the leek salad. Our dessert was the gallette which was divine. The crust was flaky yet had a distinctive crunch to it. I wanted to have a digestif of cognac but was the driver so no go on that. Thank you to Lalimes for another superb dining experience.
Very good food but I was thankful for the olives and the little sprinkle of parm in my pasta as I was dying for some seasoning. I think being an older person's place the salt is kind of withheld from all the dishes. My husband and I both agreed that everything was under-seasoned. The plain flavor of the food still tasted good. It wasn't bland and gross but I can't help but think how delicious it might have been with just a little bit of salt, or at least some on the table as an option. I ate everything before me though so it was definitely well-prepared.
Very fresh and tasty food, my friend had the rib eye steak, he said it was cooked just the way he
requested, I had salmon and it was perfect, dessert was o.k. Service was outstanding,
will go back for more. Lights went out while dining - made ambiance even better. My tequila
cocktail was one of the best I've had.
LaLimes is getting very popular, we must have had the last place at 6:30, as it was completely full. One needs to make a reservation longer in advance than I did. I was surprised that Open Table did not tell me that the restaurant was not even open on Mondays, merely saying that no reservation closer than 2.5 hours (to 6:30) was possible for "Monday 6th", which was why I made it for the preceding day.
the service and general welcoming atmosphere was lacking on this occasion. mentioned that we are celebrating a birthday in my opentable reservation. that seemed to have been overlooked.
i really think that lalimes is unique and very special. unfortunately on this occasion i was quite disappointed.
