Great food in a crowded, noisy building.
Food was great although my husband didn't really care for his pasta dish. This was more that he ordered the wrong thing for his tastes. The staff could not have been more attentive unless they were sitting right there at the table with us! I would have liked to see a more reasonably priced wine list. I felt all the wines were very highly priced.
Totally bad. I hope this is not ALL FRENCH "inspired" food.....
I will not return....cost TOO MUCH, not to be satisfied. Food was not good.
Service was awesome!.
We have had better meals there, well, at times even perfect can’t be perfect
It was so perfect. There were four of us who wanted a wonderful lunch after a difficult morning in Cleveland. We chose this place based on TA reviews and it didn't disappoint. Although we drove a long way to get here it was worth it. Then we all flew to our home cities.
My entry of salmon arrived less than five minutes after I placed my order and served with so many lentils the salmon was dwarfed. The presentation was not attractive and the taste, less so. No one came to inquire about my meal, until I had finished the salmon and but a part of the over-supply of lentils. I ordered a chocolate brownie with ice cream. The brownie was indescribably dry, almost-cardboard-like. I ate only a few bites. The crowded, noisy atmosphere and the undesirable food made for an unpleasant evening
My daughter and I went to celebrate Match Day. We were there early and were seated immediately. Our table was in a lovely sunny window overlooking a courtyard. Our server was prompt and helped us select a nice bottle of wine. We ordered appetizers: the mixed greens salad, which they split for us, and the goat cheese tart, which was delicious. We ordered the roast chicken breast with caramelized fennel and the braised lamb shoulder. Both were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately neither of us left any room for dessert. I should add that the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, not at all pretentious. I hope to rerun on my next visit to Cleveland.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at L’Albatros. Molly our server was very sweet and accommodating. Food was excellent. Desserts were fabulous. Will definitely be back.
Everything was great. Our server explained everything and was amazing
Made my boyfriends birthday special. Only problem was that my spatzel was a bit burned but I didn’t complain. Overall it was great and we would definitely come again.
Music should be more appropriate for dining and type of crowd. My mother is 84 and does not want to hear loud club music while dining and neither do I. Not very classy choice of music for dining atmosphere.
Seated near the fireplace on a chilly day in Cleveland, my sons and I enjoyed a long Spring Break lunch before heading to MOCA to see their game board exhibition. Everything was great--from the food, to the service, to the wine suggestion. It's hard to find anything these days that impresses two college kids, but they must have thanked me five or six times. Lovely, lovely day...
Awesome place, excellent food, great service and nice atmosphere. We go there often!
Wonderful dining experience with a cuisine not found often in northern Ohio. It was a great experience from top to bottom.
Chocolate Napoleon was a great choice for dessert with just the right balance of chocolate
mousse, raspberries and crisp wafers.
We had foodie friends in town from Atlanta on Sunday March 11th. Based on reviews from friends, we knew they'd appreciate L'Albatros and they did not disappoint.
We ended up arriving about 40 mins early (our error) and they were able to seat us in the bar area immediately. The bartender was great, super knowledgeable and we were quite impressed by the cheese board we'd heard so much about. Everyone seemed so knowledgeable and it was a special, fun night and exactly what we were looking for. While L'Albatros isn't cheap, the price is really great given the atmosphere. We will definitely go back. Nice work to the L'Albatros team.
A great French restaurant nestled in University Circle area. Great food, reasonable priced wines and wonderful service. A must go-to for special occasions or just having a fine dining experience.
Disappointed. L’Albatros is our “go to” restaurant for special occasions. When I made the reservation for 4 I told them that it was for a retirement. At least 3 times I was asked if we were there for a special occasion. Yes, I replied, a retirement celebration. After our dinner as I saw a festive sparking birthday cake being delivered to an adjacent table I asked our server if they did anything for a retirement celebration. He curtly said, “Happy Retirement “. Not funny. Birthdays are an annual event. In this case it was a retirement after 40 years of work. If L’Albatros does not do anything for some special occasions please let people know upfront. We’ll bring our own sparklers.
One of the best restaurants in Northeast Ohio.
The ingredients for this comfort food with a French tilt were tops. The flavors were savory. For such a highly tauted restaurant, however, it was a restaurant which has simply no major sins, rather than inspired . Some of America’s foodie cities have embraced chef-designed establishments which trust the public to return again and again but which also don’t play it so safe. Look, for example, at some venues in Denver, where restaurant developers understand the artistry of great chefs and give them carte blanch to create. Is a risk, but it’s exciting, which L’albaross is not.
I was very excited to try this particular place and was disappointed with how the visit went. First I would like to say the service was fantastic. The entire staff was very friendly and attentive. The reason I did not rate higher was simply because the food was flat out not good. I ordered the mixed green salad which was very simple but not good when compared to restaurants that are similar. I also had the lamb shoulder which I was hoping would be great and it was meh. Just okay. Overall I was just let down by the meal, so next time I visit Cleveland I will definitely try something new.
One of my favorite go-to places in Cleveland. You definitely get what you pay for here! On a cold, miserable night, the place was packed. This makes it all feel very festive. They were kind enough to grant my request to sit in a booth, since I am not able to sit on a hard chair. The service was excellent, and everyone loved their food. Salmon appetizer, steak, mussels and salmon...all really good. Remains a first class place!
Excellent traditional French bistro cuisine with a twist on many items. Large portions (took home half the appetizer (pate) and half the cassoulet (pictured) and half the lamb ragout). Delicious food, well presented. Good wine selection, attentive service. Fantastic cheese selection. Highly recommended.
Celebrating a friends first novel
Although we had a reservation, table was not ready and we had to wait. It seemed strange as our reservation was for 5:45 and the restaurant was not crowded.
The table we sat was near the restroom door and I smelled the cleaning detergent till the restaurant became more crowded. It was not toilet odor but the smell was unpleasant.
The other section far from the restroom is much cozier. I would not choose the white tables area if possible.
Their authentic French food is consistently very good. We had steak & fries and almond crusted trout with haricot verts both of which were quite delicious.
On the way out, there was no one at the coat check and we had to wait again. Our waitress saw us standing there but just ignored. What kind of service was that? We did mention that we were going to a concert.
L’Albatros is a favorite of mine and my family’s. A cozy old carriage house, the French food created here is the closest I have found in the US to the bistro and brasserie cuisine I find in France itself. Terrific wine list, and a fantasy cheese cart to tempt. French cuisine aside, they also create dishes from other cuisines with a contemporary twist.
Always worth it!
Excellent service and food. Ambiance is lovely as always. Appreciated vegan options. Will be back!
L'albatros never disappoints
Great Haply Hour
This was my third time dining at L’Albatros. Every time my food has been nothing but amazing, and the service is even better. I served tables throughout college so I know good service when I see it and they are excellent. This last time though my girlfriend’s muscles were undercooked, and she was grossed out by them. The manager quickly came over to address the problem and without even requesting she took it off the bill. Even with that slight hiccup L’albatros is my favorite restaurant in the Cleveland area. It isn’t cheap, but the food, service, and atmosphere is far above the bill.
We have been here many times thru the years and it never disappoints - our favorite
Everything was great, especially the Pistachio Cake I indulged in for dessert. My only beef was the noise-we were seated at a small table between two large parties and it was hard for us to hear one another talk. Also, I don’t understand why restaurant patrons have to pay to park in the restaurant lot.
L'Albatros never disappoints. Food is consistently good. Ambiance is intimate. Services is perfect. I've been here many times before so I decided to try one of the specials since it was a dish that I have never had before. It was a chicken roulade stuffed with mushrooms and it was awesome!!!! Thank you to the L'Albatros staff for another great meal.
Food is hearty and delicious! A very special dining experience.
Food was divine, service was spot on and very prompt. We visited before the Orchestra and also for my birthday. Hanger steak was cooked to perfection and my husband really enjoyed the pork two ways. We ordered berries and cream for dessert, which came with a little birthday candle. Nice touch! We will definitely be back
We were celebrating 2 birthdays. One of the quests was from Rochester, NY. He is a bit of a foodie and he loved the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the desserts, too..
I recently dined at this restaurant for the first time. We were told we must try a cheese board to start and that was a truly great experience. It wasn’t simply bringing out a cheese tray but rather bringing out an entire cheese board, a waiter explaining the selections then trying the cheeses. I especially enjoyed the black truffle cheese, ver good and quite unique. We also had the smoked salmon appetizer and it was prepared perfectly.
Following the starters we had mussels and the chicken special of the day. Both were well prepared and accompanied by French Wine, it made for a pleasant start to our evening.
L’albatos is a perennial fabulous restaurant with a great vibe, excellent food, outstanding kitchen and service. Convenient to the cultural amenities in Cleveland’s University Circle — excellent pre/post orchestra and theatre venue. Killer Patio in warmer months. Enjoy !!!
As usual, Zach and his team oversee a great dining experience,
Excellent dining experience for before or after visiting Severance Hall.
We live downtown Cleveland and dine out often. We picked this restaurant based on it's proximity to Severance Hall (our son was performing with the Cleveland Orchestra)and that it is a Zack Bruell restaurant. The food was awesome as is usual for Zack's restaurants. We had no complaints with the service. The only complaint was that the tables were too close together. On several occasions the servers rear end was literally in my face while she was waiting on the table next to us. It became quite uncomfortable! If we return, we will either sit at the bar, or on the patio when the weather breaks.
