L'Albatros Ratings and Reviews
Always a perfect choice, L'Albatros never disappoints. This restaurant has become a special place in our lives. Service is personal, comfortable, dependable, formal, and relaxed - all at the same time. Food is not fussy, but always sophisticated. Definitely recommend!
Great French inspired food in a nice, home-style setting. Tables were a little bit close together, but that is to be expected when eating inside a house. Service was on par-I don't think our water glasses ever got lower than half full. A bit pricey, especially for the portion sizes. Our bill was $111 for 2 appetizers, 2 drinks, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. Would recommend!
A wonderful experience, knowledgeable wait staff, personalized attention and service when it came to a wine bottle selection. Wine professionals on site.
Great food selection, perfectly prepared and position size.
Friendly staff right from the moment we walked it.
After being told that we were 30 minutes late and they had canceled our reservation (we were 29 minutes late thanks to the icy roads and my date coming from Hudson), we waited for them to find us a table. The staff attitude in handling this was unfriendly.
My chicken entire had two pieces stacked. The bottom piece was so charred on one side I could not cut it with the steak knife they provided. The top piece was acceptable and the flavors were excellent. My date said that her cod was terrific.
Outstanding food, great drinks and the service was fantastic. Great wine parings from our waiter and nice discussion with the sommelier. We ordered the featured specials (a vegetarian fettuccini dish and walleye/seafood dumplings - both were fantastic. And you need to order some cheese! Pacing of the meal was perfect for the Orchestra concert. My only slight detraction is that the tables are very close together - our neighbors were great dinner companions - so no real problems, just that the particular room we were in was a little close together. We've gone here multiple times, never been disappointed. We will be returning again for sure!
Late night Date after a work. This place continues to be a wonderful experience. We have dined at least 8 times over the past 2.5 years. Only once have we had an experience that did not live up to our expectations. We wanted to eat a bit lighter as it was so late. Split peas soup was silky smooth and sprinkled with ham hock, cheese and Crispy croutons. We split the Charcuterire board. Velvet smooth Foie Gras mousse was the real highlight along with the house made sausage. For our entrée we split the veal short rib. The caramelized crust on this piece of meat was spectacular. Maillard Reaction Perfection!!! For some reason they send us out a Crème Carmel and 2 shots of Oloroso Sherry. What a way to finish a lovely evening. Service was beyond expectations. Attentive when you needed them. FYI the Cherry cocktail was over the top!
The food was delicious.
Service was not very attentive and I don't think that has ever been a complaint of mine. Usually I feel like waiters bother us too much. Waitress was knowledgable though. We went in February and were seated up against a window so got cold off and on. When the heat kicked on I was comfortable, but then I was immediately cold again when the heat kicked off because I was up against a floor to ceiling window. L'Albatros has probably done their best to address this situation because there is heat that can make it comfortable in that spot. My advice to them would be don't sit someone there who has a reservation - save it for walk-ins.
Second time at L’Albatros. We had a very good meal and enjoyed our time. Server was friendly without trying to be our friend. We were there early for dinner and noise level picked up as more patrons came. Tables are a little close for my comfort level, but I understand business. Overall a very good dining experience!
Our table wasn't ready when we got there, but we were promptly seated and served at the bar. It only took about 10 minutes for our table and at that point we were seamlessly transferred from bar to table. The cheese board is always a favorite and I enjoy hearing the different descriptions dependent on the seasons. I also enjoyed that they had some unique local beer on tap. Service was impeccable, ambiance was even better.
We leveraged the Zack Bruell Restaurant Week 3-course deal and enjoyed a wonderful meal in the process. The food options were excellent, allowing us to share items that were very different from each other (blew that approach by getting the same dessert!) and the staff was especially attentive. I suppose the only downside is that the restaurant is small and more difficult to navigate when crowded and we were seated at a table along the main thoroughfare, but we enjoyed the rest of the experience enough that it was never really a distraction. We'd easily go back again. This was not our first visit.
I made a reservation at L'Albatros a few weeks in advance for my husband's and my 25th wedding anniversary. We were very excited to go. The restaurant was overbooked and we waited over a half an hour to be seated before deciding to eat at the bar (we were starved and were told it would be another 15 minutes at least). The food and service were good, but we shared a fork for our salads since there was no flatware at the bar. It was a disappointing evening for a night that should have been special for the two of us. I will never go back and I would never recommend it to a friend. A place that has been in business for as long as L'Albatros has, and with the experience in the restaurant world that it has should be expected to handle reservations better and should NOT OVERBOOK!!
The menu was wonderfully suited to a winter dinner, and all four of us enjoyed our food immensely. Generous portions and pours, with an attentive but not overbearing wait staff. The restaurant was very crowded, but we all commented that we had absolutely no problem carrying on a conversation where we could actually hear each other! We've been to L'Albatros before, but this was by far the best experience in terms of cuisine, ambiance, and service.
Disappointed this time. Two of us ordered from the Prix Fixe menu. The "winter salad" was stingy and under-dressed. My Gnocci was a gluey mess with no distinct flavor. Of three desserts, only one ( my ice cream) was palatable. The cheesecake concoction with dates (or was it currents?) was inedible and sent back; the brownie was overwhelmed by walnuts. The cocktails, which were excellent, ans superb service by Kindra saved the evening. Would I recommend L'Albatros to a friend? Not based on this experience. However, it has always been a favorite of mine owing to ambience and location. I will return, but maybe not on a busy Saturday night. And next time I will avoid the Prix Fixe.
Cannot say enough good things about this place. Portions are huge and the Pork Special was one of the best things I have ever eaten. The cheese course has the best selection I have ever seen and I've traveled all over the US for food. Do not hesitate, definitely make this a stop if you are anywhere near Cleveland.
We were given the "Wine Room" which sounds fancy, but it's not. It's literally a cold wine room, and all the wine is stocked on metal shelving. for a $100 deposit to hold the room, I thought for sure we'd have at least a warm ambiance with a fire place, and rustic wine cellar. But it was a closet. that barely fit 10 people. The server was lovely, drinks were good. But our meal lacked flavor.
