L'Albatros Ratings and Reviews
We love this restaurant. Each time my husband and I are in Cleveland, we make a point of dining here for dinner. I enjoy the French influence, especially the chicken liver and foie gras terrine, as well as their ability to serve a moist chicken dish with just the correct crispness in the skin. It’s a robust menu with enough selections to whet anyone’s appetite.
Most importantly, the food was spectacular . Our party of 6 went for the special menu Beaujolais Nouveau. The Frisee Salad and Burgundy Beef Shank could not have been better. Our server started the evening graciously and for those of us not doing the wine pairings offered one complimentary glass of red wine with our entree. Then he disappeared. We never saw him again until after we had all finished our entrees when he brought out the wine, saying only that they were short on wine glasses and had to wash ours. It would have been nice if there was some explanation of what was on our cheese plates. A serving assistant simply brought things out with no explanation. Those getting a wine pairing simply got a delayed glass of wine with no explanation of what it was. A manager stopped by to ask how our meal was and we told him what was going on, but it didn’t change anything. We love L’Albatross but come on guys, good service is an important part of the dining experience. Overbooking with too many tables assigned to each waiter does a disservice to both your guests and your staff.
This is an excellent restaurant! The menu is varied and the cost is not exorbitant. The service is also exceptional, and the cocktails are prepared well. The dishes are prepared with care and
I recommend L"Albatros highly for a delightful dinner, perhaps after a concert at Severance Hall.
I love Zack Bruell restaurants and since it was a special occasion we decided to give this one a try. I’ll start with the positives. The food is delicious. I have no complaints. The service was ok, at first it took forever to place our order but once I explained that we were on a time frame due to a show we had tickets for, our waiter sped things up which was extremely helpful. The biggest letdown is the seating. We were seated in between 2 other couples in which the one lady had her papers and purse on my seat and didn’t feel the need to move them when I sat down so I ended up on her stuff. We could hear every word that both couples were saying so nothing could be spoken of in private. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite the celebration I was hoping for and ended up leaving dissatisfied and disappointed in this restaurant. I don’t see us going back.
Love this restaurant. A top 3 favorite in Cleveland. Never disappoints.
Best apps and the onion soup is top in the city. Love the trout , bouillabaisse , mussels , burger , could go on and on. Service is exceptional. And in summer - best patio in the city. Truly a gem.
Food was fabulous especially the cheese plate! The salmon was tops.
Unfortunately the noise of the table behind us was ridiculously loud and put a damper on what should have been a very special birthday celebration. The guests at our table could not even engage in conversation. It got so loud I finally asked for another table and was moved to the bar . Our table was in " central station" and I was hit three times by waiters. Also, unlike other top restaurants, there was no birthday dessert. Thought at the very least, the manager could have made up for the level of noise by a complimentary dessert . Not my " go to place" anymore- at least on the weekend.
My wife’s burger came raw so she sent it back to be prepared medium rare. When the 2nd burger also arrived raw she settled for onion soup. My Sandwich was average at best. No manager ever came to the table to address the problem nor was any attempt made to compensate us for the ruined lunch date.
The food was fantastic - mushroom soup, trout, hanger steak, pistachio cake. Our server was very enjoyable - a good sense of humor, attentive but not intrusive, helpful in checking with the chef regarding accommodating some of our dietary needs. The room was a bit too noisy for us older folks, but we were still able to converse easily enough.
My wife and I ate here for a romantic dinner, and I wanted it to be an exceptional meal, based on so many 5 star reviews. So here's the good: The atmosphere is great, and the restaurant can go from being loud to quiet. The menu is exceptional, as is their wine list. Several of our entrees, especially the scallops (3) and trout were exceptional. We did not get it, but I would have the cheese option for a dessert, as the cheese board looked amazing. The oysters and smoked salmon appetizers were very good. The bad: The noodles upon which the scallops sat were inedible (not fully cooked), the falafel with shitake mushroom side dish had nearly no mushrooms (more like a hint of mushroom), and the warm brownie dessert was not warm, but was cool and hard. Parts of the meal were a 5, but parts were a 2. I was really hoping for more consistency, but I will go back as the menu has a great variety that can't be easily found elsewhere in Cleveland.
