Having moved into the area recently Hempstead House in Sittingbourne looked worth a try. Good food but not excellent but have been to some really outstanding places in the past so perhaps I am being a little harsh. Was of good quality, well cooked and good value. The french onion soup was particularIy good. I was however, disappointed that an incident at another table was not adequately dealt with away from the dining room allowing it to impact on everyone else's dining experience.
We went for Father's day and had the set menu, which was excellent.
The service was very good and the food very tasty. Would thoroughly recommend.
As always the service and food excellent we always enjoy Lakes who always seem to go that extra mile. This time one of my fellow diners knocked his glass of water over in to my plate. The Lakes staff took my meal away re- freshed it all and brought it back with little fuss. Good Service I think Lakes is reasonablpriced for what you get and the service.
Booked this restaurant for my Son's Birthday. We have eaten here several times in the past and we are always very pleased with the quality and presentation of the food and the excellent service. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and will be returning again in the future. Thank you we really enjoyed our evening.
We had Sunday lunch at the Lakes at Hempstead House, Sittingbourne. It was a beautiful day and were able to take advantage of drinks before and after lunch in the garden. The meal was good value, with several choices available for each of the three courses. In the end both of us went for the traditional roast beef, which was excellent. The only critical comment was that the servers needed a bit more training, particularly in the service of the wine at the table.
The Lakes restaurant excellent dining experience, interesting menu, good service and ambience
The service at Lakes in in Bapchild was absolutely fablous. The Food was even better, the wait was hardly noticeable as the Chef filled the initial gap (before the arrival of the starter) with an appetiser, that again was heavenly. Good quality food cooked to perfection in a very enjoyable ambiance.
Delicious meal in delightful surroundings.
Lovely restaurant, delicious food, good service but could be more welcoming.
What a civilized place to lunch! £10 for two courses as it was Wed lunch is a steal. Lovely service, generous portions and good choice. Not much atmosphere but hey?
HEMSTED HOUSE SITTINGBOURNE ATTENTIVE SERVICE GOOD FOOD IN A VERY PLEASANT LOCATION HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WIL VISIT AGAIN SOON
Setting is lovely, with the extention being very tastefully done. Dinner room was a good size, even with 2 large parties in. Large portions, however found the food a little rich, quite heavy on the cream. Roast beef was very good, but the tiramisu was not a tiramisu.
This was a surprise dining location for my wife as it was for our anniversary. I had looked at the website and downloaded an example menu.
Ffine decor, table decoration and place setting. Each table has ample clearance so that you do not feel claustrophobic. We both ordered from the A La Carte menu and I strongly recommend the medallions of Beef. Very tender and cooked to perfection. Two minor critisms: 1. the mains were served as the starters were cleared. Irritating gnats buzzing around.
This was our second visit to Lakes and it definitely will not be the last. The two most important things; service and food were perfect. A delightful venue for that special occasion.
The Lakes, near Sittingbourne offered extremely good and interesting food, nice wine and a very comfortable setting. Service was disappointing, particularly since the restaurant was only half full.
Lakes is a really nice venue for a very special occasion. We went on a wednesday evening so it was very quiet. Drinks were a little pricey at £9 for a large malt whiskey but the food was excellant and the service outstanding, worth a try if you can afford it.
To be greeted by 'there's only two of us on tonight so...' was not an auspicious start to a 10th wedding anniversary celebration... however food was by and large good... if a little unimaginative. I m a pudding fan and would recommend the lemon and pistachio praline. We stayed over in the rooms at Hempstead House - waitress service at breakfast was on a par with fawlty towers...
Lakes restaurant was very quiet for a Friday night, in fact almost empty, but this could have been because there was also a wedding taking place. The food although a little plain for out tastes, was beautifully cooked and in unusually good portions. My stilton glazed steak was thicker then I have ever come across and cooked to perfection. The 'lift' music was however rather annoying.
Arriving at the impressive venue with my girlfriend with whom I was in bad books I was pleasently surprised by an elegantly decorated dining room. The service was impeccable, top class. The starters (soup & scallops) were both well cooked and presented and accompanied by delicious fresh bread. My risotto main was excellent, my girlfriend's Brill was well cooked but not too exciting (she liked it though). The only caution was the over use of tomato concasse/frisee garnish that appeared everywhere
The Lakes is quite simply sublime. From the entrance and greeting to the divine food, educated staff and great wine list. Starter of char-grilled baby squid was smoky and beautifully sweet, main of pigeon breast was flavoursome my guests meals too, including some stunning brill poached in red wine, were excellent. Suprise was that it was not busier, Sat eve only 5 tables in use all evening, and 2 of those comprised only 2 diners. The local population is missing out on a gem of a restaurant!
The Lakes offers silver service set lunch at a reasonable price. The elegant restaurant is only slightly marred by the upvc windows. Splendid food and wine - we will certainly keep this one on the list.
'Lakes' for lunch is a fantastic option. Food is great and price is amazing for the quality £12.50 for two courses and £17.50 for three. Attentive service what more can i say. Highly recomended lunch option!
This was my fifth visit to the Lakes, this time for my fathers birthday. Our table was exactly as I had requested, overlooking the garden and as we were the first in the resturant that evening the noise level for my parents was just right.
The food was wonderful, my only criticism is that the vegetables didn't arrive until we had almost finished our main course, one portion was so late we sent it back. Everyone had a wonderful time, I'll definitely be going back again.
Thoroughly enjoyed the evening at The Lakes, staff were attentive and the food was fabulous.
Went to carvery which is available once a month. Lovely restaurant with friendly staff who are totaly unprententious, don't hover yet are keen to serve. The carvery, which is a three course meal, is fantastic value for money. Only disappointment was the vegetarian option for the main course. Highly recommended Sunday Carvery!
