Lake House - Lake Bluff
Took forever to get our drinks even though the place was empty. The salad bar had wilted lettuce and my rotisserie chicken had to go back because it was undercooked. It took so long to get it back my husband was done with his dinner. I ordered a glass of Rose' wine and knew it wasn't the wine I ordered off the menu. When the waitress brought the bill, she told me they didn't have what I wanted so they just substituted for a different wine. Seems like she would have come to me when I ordered it and told me they didn't have what I ordered and asked if I would like a replacement. My husband's dinner was so disappointing, he barely ate it. The noodles were undercooked and the marsala sauce was cold and lumpy. Very disappointed all the way around.
Great old supper club atmosphere. Liked the piano player. Good food, but was just warm. Totally shuts down by 9.
food was OK but the waitress must've been having an off-night. she seemed a little frazzled and didn't let my husband finish ordering a beer before she ran off. also, our appetizer and food all came at the same time (which all took a while). We sat close to the piano which was nice to listen to, but extremely loud and hard to hear eachother talk when the pianist was playing. kids pizza - eh, they didn't really like it...my burger didn't have much flavor, the calamari and salmon were ok.
First time here and totally thrilled by Lake House. Staff so personable and attentive; nice ambiance; great food and a jazz band to boot! Wide array of menu choices to suit every taste. Also plan to return soon for the excellent specials available certain nights. We were there for Walleye fish fry Friday night, which was delicious. We received so much fish that it was impossible to ask for and eat more! Looking forward to the rib, shrimp and snow crab all you can eat specials next. So happy we discovered Lake House and highly recommend it to one and all.
We were there on a VERY busy weekend, with Navy Bootcamp Graduation and RFMUS White Coat Ceremony. We had reservations for 8 and were placed at a table that would have been tight for 6- ALL tables were full/overfull. Hostess was efficient- but not at all welcoming, inviting or pleasant. Once seated, our waitress quickly appeared, took our drink orders and served them correctly. From there...we had issues. Orders were placed - including salad bars (which we we never told to "help yourself") and 2 appetizers (requested at the same time as other's entrees). One appetizer (toasted ravioli) was delivered almost immediately - 15 minutes later we were told they were "out" of the other. As entrees were delivered, we were "short" one -- an order of Cheese Ravioli. . . so the waitress said that the previously delivered toasted ravioli actually belonged to the cheese ravioli order, and attempted to move that plate to the "missing entree" customer-- NOT. HAPPENING. Got it straightened out, but for the $$, it should never have been an issue. Live music was an unexpected bonus.
The Lake House offers a jazz band on Friday evenings, which is terrific. However, the music does get fairly noisy if you are seated near the band and want to talk with friends. Great menu and good service.
Average restaurant with average food.
Love the atmosphere. Love their broasted chicken. A little pricey. Enjoy their entertainment.
Excellent prime rib! Awesome service and best salad bar too
The Lake House in Lake Bluff looked dirty inside. When our party of 4 were seated, there were black cloth napkins from the previous diners on the floor under the table and on the side of the table that we entered. The cloth on the table was some kind of thick butcher block white paper. We ordered two appetizers. Buffalo wings and toasted/fried cheese ravioli. They were both very good. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap. It was tasty. It came with a microwaved “baked” potato. The potato was not tasty. My husband ordered shrimp ceviche. It was bland. My son ordered ribeye with mashed potato and steamed veggies. The steak was just ok nothing special and not worth mentioning. The veggies were hot broc and carrots. The mashed potatoes looked amazing but were almost frozen to the touch. My son’s girlfriend ordered the chicken tortilla salad. She took a few bites and stopped eating it because it didnt taste good. We didnt call the subpar food to the attention of our server because there was a language barrior between us. The drinks from the bar were good. The bread they bring before the meal was good. I would not send any friends or families to waste their money at The Lake House at Lake Bluff
Corned beef and cabbage was delicious and plentiful. The other people in our party really enjoyed the Walleye fish fry. We all had a great experience.
It's been a while since I've been to a breakfast brunch. I was not disappointed. Friends recommended this restaurant and brunch and glad they did. Plenty f food, nice selection, very friendly waitstaff and nice ambiance. Oh..and I just about ate my body weight in bacon.....
Restaurant area is very quiet, piano playing, romantic. Decided to sit in the bar, loud and service was just ok, but burgers were great!
We attended 2 Great Lakes graduation in 3 years we remembered this resyaurant for their delicious food friendly great staff ...highly recommend it
One of our go-to places. Love the salad bar and the live music on Saturday night! Service was a little slow like it’s been sometime in the past. Salad bar helps and wait staff is always nice about it, but restaurant should staff adequately on weekends.
Website said they had gluten free options but they did not. My ribs had very little meat on them and they were more expensive than other restaurants I've been to.
Never again, service really bad, food expensive and uneatable
Loved it great server took a client and his wife and my wife first time there and it was wonderful I am a customer now
They went above and beyond! All six of us were new, and now we all want to make Lake House a part of our dining routine!
There was live music, we came in for the prime rib special and to celebrate a birthday. Waitstaff was attentive. Food was great. Dessert was amazing. Overall a great experience.
We went for New Years Eve package deal. We were seated at 8pm and the owner accomodated us so we could be by the music - the X-tet was great! There were no vegetarian options and they ran out of Prime Rib. There was some confusion about the menu as the server kept having to clarify what we would get that was not reflective of the package menu. In the end she begrudgingly gave us what we wanted but it was a struggle. The food was good and the serving sizes were nice. We were there until about 10pm and the place was pretty empty. The package included a midnight champagne toast - though the server said they closed at 10 and we'd have to go to the bar to wait for midnight. Kind of confusing. The price was good $90/couple but I don't think I'd go again. Would like to try the place for a less special event. I bet their Bears Game events are fun.
Great place for a team meal, fun and very tasty. Great beer selection, on tap and in bottles.
Well prepared lunch buffet at a reasonable price. Plenty of parking and conveniently located.
After spending some time online trying to find a great eatery in the area, I booked a table at Lake House. We were so impressed with the overall service that we went again the next night! Our food was delicious and served timely by our exceptional server Ms. Anne. We were kind of a large group at 10 and they were very accommodating. The owner was friendly and provided us with personal service and great conversation. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend The Lake House!
Just awful. Dirty, dated, disgusting food and salad bar. Will never go back.
One of our go to places, but disappointed that Friday night piano player wasn’t there. They said they don’t have after Thanksgiving, but that seems like a time there should be live music. It was also fairly busy that night, so I think it would have been worth the restaurant’s cost.
For Thanksgiving, there was lots of confusion. The tables wee too close together and the service very slow. No
one explained how the food was set up.
So, we missed the better slices of turkey.
What I’m most upset about is that I brought my sailor in for a nice thanksgiving dinner. When we entered not one person acknowledged my sailor-not even a hello! I was so disappointed with the lack of salutations. Then it got worse. We finally were seated at a table that wobbled, when the server finally came he didn’t ask us anything didn’t explain about the buffet,or even the menus. But worst of all, not even acknowledgment for the sailor that we were with! I realize that you must see a lot of them because your establishment is close to the base, but everyone there has forgotten that these men and women are our HEROS! So how about your employees there start acknowledging them and any other military person that walks through the door. It doesn’t matter what day it was... just being courteous and acknowledgment is worth so much to all of our military family!! Remember THEY GOT YOUR BACK!
So disappointed in your lack of respect for the military 😡 I will not recommend this establishment to any of my military family .
We had Thanksgiving reservations with our newly graduated sailor. We wanted to eat several hours before our reservation and the set us up without a blink. Food was great, service was wonderful! Thank you for making this occasion fantastic for us!
After going for Thanksgiving dinner a couple of times, will not go back again. Turkey was slightly dry, food trays were sloppy, had a terrible table, and no cranberry sauce. They were pawning off cranberry juice as sauce. On the better side, the server was very attentive and provided good service. This restaurant is generally good but would not recommend for holiday feast.
The Thanksgiving buffet was missing a hot, green veggie dish. Really! I mean really it was Thanksgiving! The food was marginal at best. The decor reminded me of an old 70's joint, and was looking for the disco ball that was missing thankfully . The cost of the buffet was well out of line with what was offered including quality. Only one desert was offered! Again, really! We were there visiting our son who is at Navy boot camp. We will not step foot in there when we return for my son's graduation Dec 7. It was just one huge turnoff.
Loved this! We were here to visit our son while he had 12 hours of leave for Thanksgiving. We are so thankful they were open and the food was amazing and the manager was so gracious!
The server was curt, did not interact, did not come to the table or ask if we needed anything. Steaks were over charred, my order was incomplete, after asking where the merlot sauce, blue cheese, and mushrooms were all I got were the mushrooms. There were only 3 tables in use. Don't understand this as it's such a high rated restaurant.
My sons and I were celebrating my youngest son’s graduation from Navy boot camp and both of them wanted steak. I selected the Lake House. Both of my sons were floored by the price of the steaks so they ordered pasta dinners. Both of them were disappointed with their dishes and very glad that they didn’t order steaks. We all wished that we had chosen a different restaurant that evening. Ambiance was nice, service was lackluster. All in all, the experience was disappointing.
the fish fry, Northern Pike is delicious. on Fridays. we brought 2 couples with us who have never been there and they all said we'll be back. I think the waitress was a little new so the service was not up to par. we for sure will be back. love the little salad bar, just enough variety.
Food and service was outstanding. My wife and I had their famous breasted chicken dinner and totally understand why people wave about it. Also had their salad/soup bar which is delicious, bountiful and well worth the price.
We were seated in a very nicely located table and the hostess remembered that she had sat us in a less desirable location last week and asked if this table would be satisfactory. One smart and aware representative of the restaurant. Waitress was personable and very attentive to our needs. We will be back.
Sunday brunch is outstanding. Love the endless mimosas, custom omelets, and delicious Belgian waffles. $19.95 per person is an excellent value. This is my new brunch spot.
Lake House is a wonderful restaurant with good food and an attentive staff. Their live jazz music on Saturday night adds to your special experience. Would make trip from Chicago to experience their hospitality again.
Food was awful! I honestly surprised how this place has been called restaurant. Bar maybe. But food was awful. Salad bar is a joke. Fish fry? They have no idea what fish fry is. Poor people who eats it. They don’t know any better. Good location with potentials. Hire a good chef
