Lake Effect is inspired by a collective love for great cuisine, culture, fine wine, and cocktails in a cozy, casual setting in the Northwoods of Minnesota. We want people to come in and have the joy of relaxing with family and friends while deciding on the perfect pairing of food and drink.
Whether that relaxation comes in the form of watching the Sunday football game on our bar TV's, or enjoying a quiet dinner with a bottle of reserve wine will depend on the individual, but we would like to cater to both of these interests.

The only criticism that we have is our reservation was at 5:30 PM. When we were done eating the table next to us was being offered different menu options. The weight staff was very attentive, very good and explain things on the menu since it was our first time there.

Pad Thai was great except for a random chunk of some kind of spice that was very potent and intense. Pesto pizza was good but missing the balsamic glaze on top.

Lake Effect is a breath of fresh air in the world of endless pub food here in Duluth. Yes, there’s burgers and cheese curds (very yummy ones!) on the menu but there’s something for everyone on their menu and everything is elevated with a tasty twist. There’s pride and real skill involved here! Also, the service is really great,..very upbeat and attentive. I was there one evening with some gal pals, we were gabbing endlessly but didn’t want to keep the staff so we made motions to leave until the guys said; “Stay as long as you like! We’re not going anywhere.” So, we stayed and ended up ordering more beverages and dessert! If you don’t want a burger, the daily fish is EXCELLENT. I’d recommend Lake Effect to anyone.

This was our second time at Lake Effect and we really enjoyed ourselves. The physical space is really charming and relaxing—it would be a great venue to rent for a private party! The food is good quality. I would, however, like to see more vegetarian options. Lastly, the tap beer selection is fantastic. Thanks, Lake Effect.

Great food- comfortable for small and larger groups. Perfect for the casual dinner who is interested in good food with great ingredients and a bit of innovation. Staff were super.

Our servers over the last few times at Lake Effects were Tammy and Rebecca. Superb, as was the food! They should be proud to offer such quality. Kudos to the chefs and kitchen staff!

Arrived with girlfriends for our first visit to Lake Effect. We made reservations so we were seated promptly. The service was attentive and friendly. Our server recommended a glass of the house Rose for me. It was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. They were artfully prepared and presented. A friend ordered the pad Thai. She said; “It’s a bit different from the usual but I REALLY like it!” My fish over a bed of couscous was DELICIOUS. I asked if they had decaf, our server said “I can make you one!” He did a pour over just for me and it was great! Our chatty group sat and gabbed for a long time. We were worried about staying too late but the staff encouraged us to linger and enjoy. I highly recommend!

Place is very clean and fresh. Seems they are trying to cater to more of an upscale crowd but had the greeter had tee shirt and ball cap. wife ordered vodka soda but received a gin and tonic (drank it anyway) and asked for blue cheese for her side salad (which cost $7) but they gave her ranch. Need to pay attention to the details a little more. Food was good but pricy

Recommended by a friend and became my post Grandmas Marathon meal. We were served by the bartender who did a good job despite being a bit overworked from what we could tell. Food was very good and nice wine list. We’ll definitely be back. Nice option for visits to Duluth if you’re willing to drive a bit.

New drink menu! We had the Tiki drink, the Skinny Dipping, the Boulder Daisy, and the Fallen Grapes wine. I’m not a wine drinker, so I hated the wine, but I also am not really a drinker and liked all three of the others! The duck was fantastic (we ordered it with half of the rice because we knew we wouldn’t eat it all) But the star was the Pork Belly Burnt ends with corn salsa and beets in Bibb lettuce. Whoever thought of this combination deserves a raise, and a medal. It was sooooo good!

Stopped in here for brunch with my parents on Sunday. Our service with Alison was excellent! She was spot on with her suggestions! We tried the pork belly hash which was amazing and had wonderful flavor. The Bloody Mary’s and mimosas were also really good.

I am a complete duck snob and was nervous to order the duck thigh confit, because I was going to be really disappointed if it wasn’t fantastic. I wasn’t disappointed. It was so delicious! And perfectly done! I almost want to go back tomorrow for another order!

We were hoping to love this spot, given that we have always enjoyed Lake Avenue Cafe. Unfortunately, it is just lacking a bit of polishing especially in the service department. The menu was intriguing, but we were a bit disappointed that the fish specials were all imported from out of state. That point aside, their menu standard walleye sandwich was delicious and was the highlight of our meal. We hope to come back, the space is lovely and staff is friendly, there is just room for improvement.

The wait staff knew their stuff. I like getting recommendations and was not disappointed. I had the jerk stroganoff and it was amazing. It was so filling that I have another meal. Bob had the fish of the day which was mahi mahi. He liked it but not as much as the stroganoff. Was not very busy when we went and was not noisy at all.

I need gluten free food, and I was disappointed in the few GF choices…not even a GF bun for a burger. I asked for toast on the side and it didn’t come buttered. Burger was not hot. But, the service was great, lovely ambiance, good cocktails, my party had a nice time and they enjoyed their food.

The noise level was not energetic it was loud. Between the customers and the bar noise I could not hear what my wife was saying. I would like to say that everything else overshadowed the noise level but it didn’t. My wife really enjoyed her dinner. Mine was OK. My biggest complaint was the server did not tell me what they did not have on the menu. It is such an easy thing to do and I of course ordered some thing that they did not have. Will I go back? Maybe, but for the money and being so far out of the way, probably not.
