Some 40 years after going dark, the legendary Lafayette’s Music Room returns to the heart of Memphis’ revitalized Overton Square. Once again, Lafayette’s Restaurant and Bar is the spot to enjoy great food, good local conversation, and some of the best live music in town, seven nights a week.

The original Lafayette’s Music Room was short-lived but still vividly remembered. During the 1970s, it was a small but influential venue rooted in the most happening corridor of Memphis. A key stop on the showcase circuit for up-and-coming touring artists, Lafayette’s played a significant role in launching the careers of such music superstars as Billy Joel, Big Star, KISS, Barry Manilow, J.J. Cale and Leon Russell, to name a few.

Today’s Lafayette’s Restaurant and Bar evokes that storied past. It boasts live bands seven nights a week, from local and touring acts playing rock ‘n roll to jazz to blues and everything in between.

We had such a great time last night seeing Scott Sudbury perform and enjoying drinks and delicious food. Our server was very friendly, sweet, and fun to chat with, while also being attentive and professional at the same time. We’ve noticed that the server’s in general are consistently friendly and attentive here. I really love the food here and give it a 5 out of 5 categorically, and my husband who’s more critical than most people gives it a 4 out of 5, which is really a 5 out of 5!!

From the time I made the reservation and spoke with Kennedy months ago at Lafayette music room until the time we actually left after the show last night, the service was outstanding. We’ve been to many events of all sizes, and all kinds of venues from the most major to the most quaint and we have never received better service from beginning to end. the show was fabulous too. But the staff of Lafayette music room in Memphis, Tennessee was the best we have seen in many years!

We took our out of towners guests to Lafayette’s to listen to music. We ate lots & drank more & stayed for 5 hours as the 2 bands that played there that night were great. Our server was top notch. Great service. We had a fantastic evening 🎶🥰

WE had reservations at 6 and we were instantly seated at 6. Our server was one of the best we have ever had. She was polite and helpful for our order and drink order. She watched our table and brought our orders. The music was over the top great not to loud and very well played. We will return every time we are in Memphis.

The food was unseasoned and bland. Extremely over priced and not the experience I expected from a live band. The lamb chops were just ok. The shrimp tacos were bad. The gumbo had a funny after taste and strong tomato based soup. The house salad was good but can you really mess up a salad? The braised pork was good. The grits were thick almost like mashed potatoes if you like them like that. The drinks were good and strong though. There was a $5 cover charge no one mentioned before hand. Also, there was gratuity already added to the check and was not informed of that either. The waiter seemed like he didn’t wanna be there. Not even a smirk/smile the entire time. I expected a better experience and better food for $150 tab!

So blindsided by the $5 cover charge at 2 in the afternoon. There was not a drop of alcohol in my sister's or my bloody Mary! NOT A DROP!! The appetizers were good, but our burgers had absolutely NO flavor or seasoning. Go back to the old Lafayette way, please.

There is a $5 cover per person even when eat. And , then, the band wants to be tipped. The food was just ok. Could not believe they put cracked pepper on the white pizza which made it inedible as it ruined the taste of the pizza itself. We had high hopes and we were disappointed

We were never so badly received in a restaurant, the girls at the reception wanted to sit us in half a table when the restaurant was and it remained half empty. We stayed only because an older girl then offered us an appropriate table when we were leaving.

Overton Square, the area was walkable and pretty Lafayettes was a fun gathering place for music, friends, drinks, and food. The service was attentive. The ambience was one of a large hometown dance hall. The bands were extremely loud to the point that we could not hear our waitstaff. The menu offerings ranged from appys to sandwiches small plates burgers and salads.Something for everyone. Lafayettes is perfect for a night out dancing and good food.

Food was fantastic.. We didn't realize that it would be a cover charge there was a band. I scheduled here on Sunday I thought it would be quiet enough to discuss some things with my party and we definitley could not. We moved outside and it was better for talking but it was cold.

All four of us had a great evening, with good food and good music. The staff was friendly and helpful. Simply a very good experience that we would recommend to our friends. (We had a porkchop, linguini with seafood and grilled salmon)

Prior to our visit we attended a play at Hattiloo Theatre, then dined at Lafayette's. Both were great. The band, Triple Annie was also wonderful at Lafayette's. We will be returning in the future, especially to hear Triple Annie.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food has been subpar the last few times I have visited. Also, they now charge a $5 cover charge per person. This adds up when you have big groups. I believe that charge should go towards your bill if your party is there for dining. The live music bands are hit or miss. Brought my family for a birthday and they were not impressed. Restaurant was not as full as it used to be and I’m wondering if other guests have had similar experiences. I certainly will not be back anytime soon.

I was not expecting to pay a $5 cover charge at 12 noon and honestly didn’t expect the extremely loud live band. I don’t mind it for an evening out when I’m having drinks and on a date but not at opening time for brunch.

The band (The Pinch) was fantastic! There was a good variety of food and drinks. We enjoyed all of the dishes we tried, but our favorite was the shrimp and grits! We will definitely go back next time we're in Memphis!!!
