Lafayette's Music Room Memphis
The original Lafayette’s Music Room was short-lived but still vividly remembered. During the 1970s, it was a small but influential venue rooted in the most happening corridor of Memphis. A key stop on the showcase circuit for up-and-coming touring artists, Lafayette’s played a significant role in launching the careers of such music superstars as Billy Joel, Big Star, KISS, Barry Manilow, J.J. Cale and Leon Russell, to name a few.
Today’s Lafayette’s Restaurant and Bar evokes that storied past. It boasts live bands seven nights a week, from local and touring acts playing rock ‘n roll to jazz to blues and everything in between.

Food was mediocre for price. Manager messed you food delivery, didn’t even know menu items upon visual check. Server came by twice entire meal.
No music group was on stage which I find odd for a music joint, even a house band would have been great.
Overall disappointment considering the history for this venue. We had gone on a music tour that day and the guide raved about it so either he hadn’t been there in a while or has an advertising deal to mention the place.
Truly unhappy with the experience which was supposed to be a big family dinner on our final night in Memphis.
Great atmosphere. Came for the music, but the food was the best! Cheesecake is so worth the trip all by itself!! Highly recommend!!!!
The bloody Mary’s and mimosas were good. They were 5.00 and the bloody Mary’s had a build your on bar. The oyster por boy was way over cooked. The crab/crawfish Omlet and shrimp and grits were excellent!
Great atmosphere food and music. We will return!
No music when we were there . Very disappointing indeed. Food was good.
Very nice restaurant. Myself as well my friends really liked the food, the atmosphere, and the entertainment. The staff was very friendly and complimentary. The waiter had a kind, pleasant disposition. I will definitely visit again.
The waitress was fast, friendly, and new the menu well. Lunch during the week is surprisingly quiet.
I am very easy going but our experience at Lafayette's Music Room was less than ideal. We made a reservation LMR based on the reviews and the expectation of live music. We even called ahead to make sure there was going to be live music while we were scheduled to be there. We were told there would be and even what band would be playing. When we arrived there was no live music. The waiter was appropriately gracious but despite indicating no dairy on a salad it still came covered in cheese. I waited for his return to explain the mistake but it took far too long and I finally gave up and painstakingly picked out all the cheese crumbles. Dirty appetizer plate were never cleared and sat stacked up crowding the middle of our small table. I finally moved them to an empty table myself to give our dinner plates some space on the table. The food was adequate for the price but the service was not. On top of that, we received an email from OpenTable reprimanding us for not showing up for our reservation. We did show up but their promise of entertainment and quality service did not. We won't likely return.
Great food and music.
Loveland and Duran were GREAT!!
Wonderful day with friends
We had a large party(17) celebrating a birthday at brunch...food and service were excellent! Tyler took great care of us! Music was a bonus!
We were there to here a favorite local band. Jeffrey and the Pacemakers
Excellent band and service. Always much too cold from air conditioning especially near the bar. Uncomfortable for many.
Jeffrey and the Pacemakers were FANTASTIC.
Be aware that there is a lot of crowd noise during performances. If listening to a lower volume performer, it is hard to hear.
Love having the convenience of having a reservation instead of worrying will we get a seat!
Another great Sunday afternoon at Lafayette's. Couldn't ask for anything more. I even brought my granddaughter, who enjoyed her Oyster Po Boy immensely. We even visited the gift shop and took advantage of a Lafayette hoody that was on sale. Our server Adrienne was outstanding as well. Please let her know how much we appreciated her great service and her friendly smile.
The food is always good. We love the live music. There were lots of children here today, and they all seemed to enjoy the show. My 80 year old mom enjoyed it, too!
Great way to spend a Sunday morning. Joe and Art are great musicians. Service and food were good!
This is our second trip to Lafayette's Music Room....it was love at first experience! The acoustics are phenomenal.....as is the food & staff (shout out to Charity). The Amber McCain Band was friggin awesome! The first trip we fell in love with Pulse. Our hometown of Oxford has a really great music scene but it's so worth the drive ❤😎🍷
I made a reservation and got a great table. The food was ok. The wine $10 a glass. The entertainment was outstanding!! I would definitely go back.
I will order the hush puppies again.
Great food! Our server (Alec, a very efficient woman) hope I spelled her name correctly, was exceptional.
The entertainment made it that much better. Highly recommend this establishment.
Always, always, always an outstanding experience at Lafayette’s. With Jeffrey and the Pacemakers!
Had a great time, first time being there and enjoyed every minute of it.
Great service. Great band. Great food. Really enjoyed our meal. Was able to sit outside and the noise was not bad, we were able to talk and enjoy the band!
We were sad to miss out on the music - which stopped at 7pm on Sunday. The food was EXCELLENT. The service was poor, but the food made up for what the service lacked. Everything we ate was awesome: lettuce wraps, southwest chicken salad and gumbo!
It was fun!!! I love the bands!!! I will definitely go again.
Food was good and fresh. Service was attentive. We didn’t know there would be a cover charge, after a certain time on weekends (& holidays), I guess that is part of the deal.
This was our first experience and it was good. We would eat there more often if there was not a coverage charge after 5:00 pm.
We visited early for a show in the evening and ended spending 8 hours in the venue between lunch, drinks and the concert. The staff was amazing and food was phenomenal. Will certainly come back to Memphis just to revisit Lafayette's!
Food and service mediocre, we made reservations and upon arriving at restaurant were told there was a $5 cover charge per person . Better food and entertainment can be found elsewhere in the city
There is a great selection of music genres at this location. The first band was a bit too loud and they kept playing "one more number" though no one was actually encouraging them to do so. The food is pretty tasty and $$$ pricey. A grief I do have is that is they are going to have a third party book their reservations, all the information should be provided, such as Cover Charge amount if there is one and the Music act scheduled for the date chosen. I met with two other friends for a Birthday Dinner and wasn't able to forewarn them of the Cover Charge. The amount was only $5.00 but if it had been a large group, they may have been put off with the lack of information up front.
Thank you, Sandra Spragins
Food and music were great. Service was only ok. The band was wonderful and food was tasty. Our server was stretched thin, apparently, and it wasn’t that crowded. Then at some point, the bartender decided that they no longer wanted to give out real glasses for drinks (???) and swapped to disposable, even for wine.
Awesome Father’s Day brunch! Food, service, and music was on point! Can’t wait to go back!
It was my second time attending in 2 weeks time. We took our mom there for her 80th brthday..it was 19 of us and nobody complained. It was an Awesome experience. We took my son there, who was here from Nashville, for Father's day...Please go.
Great food, great service, great music. Real treat to be able to still hear a big band playing swing music.
Good music, atmosphere and food. Cant go wrong. I would definitely recommend for a date night.
I had asked for a table close to the band downstairs. They initially put us upstairs, but then allowed us to go downstairs. They told me that nothing was on their notes about my reservation. We got to a table downstairs but they asked us to move us to another table. Then we were asked to move from that table. I finally told them I would not move anymore. It was very unsettling.
Our waitress was very nice and attentive and we enjoyed the food and drinks. They just need to get their reservations straight as I had made them about a 3 weeks in advance. The band, Jeffrey and the Pacemakers were awesome as usual!
Ambiance very nice. Food was good. Shrimp and grits was just ok, shrimp did not taste “wild caught”. Service was good.
It was excellent. Can’t remember our server’s name but she was great! The food was fabulous. I love Lafayette’s and always look forward to going there.
