Service staff clearly was not concerned about our experience. I asked what sides came with an entree and he responded, “the same vegetables that come with everything else.” I had ask again for him to check with the chef. Only person in the restaurant who seemed to care was the young man refilling water glasses.
Okay so the food was absolutely horrible. The waiter was smoking right behind us in this back area that was blatantly visible after he leisurely ate dinner while we were waiting to get the check or maybe coffee or maybe anything at all for like 30 mins. I don't know how this place is in business?? All of the food was literally so disgusting.
Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. This is the third time we have dined there since Covid restrictions loosened up. The previous two times we enjoyed our visit.
Food and service was outstanding. One of my favorites in Philly BYOB.
Excellent food and very, very friendly service
Great service outside in pouring rain. Terrific staff
I made the reservation at the west location because i knew they would be able to accommodate us all together, it was a wonderful experience the staff is so friendly and attentive. The fact that they accept card and BYOB is great. Food was on point everyone was happy.
Excellent service, RW menu had lots of options to choose, wonderful experience and yes they take cards!!!
Definitely will be back!
The food was amazing but it was really the staff that made our experience incredible. They were so friendly and kind. If you love authentic Italian food, you have to try La Viola.
Great food and staff. A bit inconvenient that it was cash only, but overall a great dining experience.
Didn’t appreciate the lack in customer service and different treatment. Would not be back!
Service is good and good is excellent for the value
Great meal and great value for restaurant week! Lots of options
Well prepared food. Attentive service. Wide menu. Good value.
Cash only establishment. Should be mentioned at the beginning of service.
This was one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at for restaurant week. First the restaurant modified my reservation to a different time without my knowledge. The food was below par. I can't believe they are trying to charge people $15 for romaine lettuce tossed in Caesar salad, like that was a salad. The mussels in a white wine sauce, it wasn't a sauce, more like mussels sitting in dirty mussel juice. The main entrees were again supposed to be in a sauce, but had no flavor. The desserts were so dry it was ridiculous. The staff weren't very attentive, some people who got sat had to ask a bus boy if he could take their order. They didn't tell us it was cash only until they gave us the check and had to walk a block or 2 to find an ATM. IF you are going to be cash only, at least tell people when you seat them and have an ATM at the restaurant. If you are looking for authentic Italian food, save your money and go elsewhere because you will only be disappointed after visiting this restaurant.
Great food and ok services ! I would give 5stars except they don’t accept credit card, Cash only. It didn’t say anywhere on the website when I booked it. They have another restaurant right across and they do. It doesn’t make any sense to me!
So the night we had reservation, it was 90 degrees out without power but across was on. We didn’t mind to seat outside instead of change location, they brought the food from across street anyway. Everything went well till we got the bill, they told us they don’t accept cash, so my husband had to run 4,5 block away to get the cash. It’s still pandemic and Who is carrying the cash??? They can’t even run across street and swipe our card or they don’t want to pay tax? ... we will not coming back ever!
We went for restaurant week and it was an all around great time! Food was great and service was great!
We did not know this restaurant was cash only until the bill arrived. Otherwise the service was great and the food for restaurant week had lots of options.
I have wanted to try this restaurant for several years and Restaurant Week was the perfect opportunity. Nice friendly service. I had the stuffed ravioli and the others all had a veal dish. I would highly recommend as a nice 'tablecloth' BYOB.
Poor service and the food was mediocre. Would not return.
Please do not go here if you want an enjoyable dining experience. While the food was underwhelming, the biggest problem was their inattentive and rude service. After finishing our main courses (which took longer than we expected), we were not approached by a waiter to clear our plates or ask if we wanted coffee or dessert for over an hour! They easily could have made an extra $40 dollars from my table, but instead our server preferred to chat up another table and ignore us. We even told another server who was refilling waters to tell our server to get us our check, and our server still ignored that request and went to other tables instead. On top of that, the restaurant was definitely ignoring any covid-19 guidelines the city had in place. The only bright spot was that my water was constantly being refilled. Do yourself a favor and choose one of the several other great Italian restaurants in Philly. I have been to plenty in Philly and across the country, and La Viola Ovest was easily the worst one I’ve ever been to.
It was too noisy and overcrowded considering Covid restrictions still in effect for Philadelphia PA. When we first arrived there were only 2 tables of 6. Then several groups of 12-15 came in and then service was not as good.
food is expensive for being just OK. no different than out of the box pasta. our waiter was slow and inattentive. We asked for water twice, both times the waiter said "yeah" and walked away.
Decent Italian fare in a fairly noisy environment. Salads were fresh, seafood risotto was average. There are better choices in the city.
Intimate dining experience. Food was absolutely delicious. The staff was amazing. Would definitely recommend whether it be a private dinner or friendly get together.
Got the fish special. Great food, as always. Glad to be back.
The food was excellent.
I had gone here for one of my friend’s birthday. It was just three of us. This would have been a five star restaurant, however, due to certain factors I had to give it four. For starters, one of my friends accompanying me that night understands a bit of Bulgarian. I say this because some of the staff is Bulgarian. Long story short, she did over hear two waiters arguing. One calling out our original waiter for not tending to us timely & properly, & the other whom was being lectured, defending himself saying that were just kids (were 26) & didn’t want to serve us. It was uncomfortable but the food was amazing. & thankfully the server that DID want to serve us, tended to us the rest of the night. Of course they fought again because he lost a table, but he was lucky we didn’t leave entirely. It’s a shame I don’t think I’d be returning. A tip to your staff: regardless of what someone looks like or speaks. Don’t judge. Every customer is a paying customer. The ironic part was that when I went to the bathroom, I passed a group of I want to say maybe 10 or more at a table. (They were all actual kids, & being served.)
Excellent atmosphere, service!!! Meal was outstanding
The service and food are always quite exceptional. It's a great place to come back again and again
Great service and food. Like that it's a byob, but it should be made clearer on website and posted more clearly in the restaurant that they do not take credit cards and its cash only.
Food was not good
Love this place probably been here about 6 times. Went for my sister and brother bday they turned 21. Staff was amazing and the food was even better... we will be back.
We ate in the alley next to the restaurant. It's a BYOB and doesn't take credit cards, so arrive prepared. Our food was delicious, and the service was just right. Their New York style cheesecake is excellent. One knock: there's only one restroom, and there was a line for it much of the evening.
I usually don’t go downtown to a restaurant since I live in Bucks County Pennsylvania. I went there for my big birthday and my sister’s birthday. Everything about it was really nice. The waiters were very very attentive and the food was great and we all had a nice time. I would definitely return.
Didn't realize La Viola West and East(Bistro) are located on same street across from each other. We unknowingly arrived at the wrong location. Kind to seat us. Were never told we had been seated at the sister restaurant. Totally missed the BYOB designation on the site. Very unhappy when check came to find that they are CASH ONLY...which is noted nowhere on their site or OpenTable. Better options readily available.
The tables were spaced out and I felt safe dining during the pandemic. The waiters were very attentive, and the food was phenomenal.
Quiet Sunday evening.. but the food and service were excellent,,, as usual..
great to return to one of our favorite restaurants!!
