Ok restaurant. Had hit and misses
Ordered sea bass, received a different type fish. Opted to go with the Scallops
Items on the menu are not what they say they are - Pâté is not Foie gras. Also, our drink orders took quite a long time to prepare. When they finally did arrive to our table, the ice had melted and watered down the drinks. Also, why ask if we have an alcohol preference if your not going to fulfill the order? We did not stay for dessert.
We went last Tuesday for a day early Valentines day dinner. Christine, the GM, gave us a great evening. Nice romantic evening with delicious food. Plan to go again soon.
Nothing to share, kitchen was closed when we arrive. Check hours with the restaurant
Menu and new chef was somewhat disappointing
Well probably improve over time
This restaurant is in the process of changing concepts (closed all march), and it is a rough transition. My wife and I had to ask for our drinks twice before we got them. And I ordered a steak au poivre (e.g. "with pepper" in french). The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, but the chef neglected to pepper encrust the steak to make it steak au poivre. Indeed, all the food we got was very tasty, but not quite what we expected.
All in all, this is a restaurant that could be great, but is seriously struggling right now.
Needs urgently to improve in management and service training and organization.
You can do it!
After being here on 4 occasions over the past year and always having a great dinner, we had the worst service ever in a restaurant. It started with them remembering after 30 minutes that they had seated us and ended with the wine we ordered not appearing on the table but the check. The food was delicious - kudos to the kitchen. I hope this was just a very off night.
Had early Thursday evening reservation for 3 for my birthday. Service was sometimes confused, uncoordinated, but then I found out that the restaurant has new ownership and staff since Jan 1, and new staff had just arrived from various locations e.g. San Francisco, France, etc. a week or less, so I give them a pass on this. It seems that original owner, S. Degaine got bought out by a French company. The new owner plans to close around March, remodel and re-open about 1, 2 months later. So, will be interesting to see what happens to both the new restaurant (with new name), as well as what Degaine's new enterprise might be.

Definitely a place we will return to for dinner. Since we came on a Sunday - only Brunch menu was available. However we were happy with their cheese platter, salad nicoise and seafood linguine
I have been here 2 other times and they were excellent. This time the waiter couldn’t even get sparkling water right. Unless I spoke some French we couldn’t order a 2d glass of wine. The music was too loud to have a conversation. Best salad nicoise even in France.
Second visit to this restaurant. Food was very good. We had an early reservation and so it was not busy. We had great service. Another enjoyable dining experience.
I took my wife and son for New Years Eve. 4 course meal . My wife could only eat # 1 and # 2 - The appetizer was raw salmon - No Flavor - The main Course - Beef Tenderloin or halibut - Wife got halibut on a pile of lentils with a salt broth , very strong fish odor . She couldn’t eat either . The 4 tablespoons of potatoes I got with my beef tenderloin were instant potatoes. 225 dollars for three meals and my wife couldn’t eat her meal and the waiter wouldn’t take hers off the tab . Chef Ramsey and Hells Kitchen need to come here
One night in Houston and chose Cafe Azure for our destination. The place is very small and on our visit, very loud. Seems it is a favorite of locals who were gathered for a holiday celebration. What was disappointing was seating us as a couple for dinner next to a table of 15. When I asked to be moved after our appetizers, they couldn’t have been nicer. Just something missing about the service to have to ask to move tables, matched by the waiter getting our orders wrong. The locals had a great time. If your not a local, I’d suggest a place more focused on service.
Menu was a bit limited. French food without some of the standards, no onion soup?? Nice but doubt I would be in a hurry to go back.
If Carfe Azur was located in any other city, it would draw rave reviews. But in Houston, where great restaurants are common, it may get overlooked. Our dinners were all excellent, and that includes two fish dishes, which were very fresh in addition to being deliciously prepared. So, the decor is not “French Restaurant Chic,” but it is cozy and very accessible to anyone in or near Montrose.
Very nice decor. I tried the perfect egg. Very different but good. Good service
Wonderful, delicious food with great service. The Grilled Caesar is such a must try. Love this local gem.
Great staff and food.
This place is delightful! The service was pleasant but could use some refinement to support the ambiance of the place. It is a French restaurant, the staff should be knowledgable of French cuisine.
Very welcoming, friendly staff and great streak frittes! I will be back!
Lunch with a friend. Was was great will definitely go again.
Wonderful contemporary French restaurant on Montrose Blvd. The food is fantastic, and the waitstaff is very helpful; will not disappoint.
Attentive service did not make up for Chef off site on a Friday night. The halibut deserved much better.
Interesting take on bouillabaisse. Not authentic French recipe but very well done. We elected to eat on the patio (curbside) fearing the worst, but surprised traffic was not too distracting. Waitress, Amanda, was on top of her game and is the biggest single reason to return to Café Azur.
We took the opportunity of 1000 points and went to Cafe Azur at 5:45 on a Sunday...after Thanksgiving. It was quiet but we took the advantage. The food was excellent, the drinks very nice and perfectly made. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was excellent. Very happy having made the choice of this restaurant tonite. We will definitely be back.
Great as always!
We treated our friend to a birthday evening and the service was fantastic. The made a special plate for her desert and a candle. Nice Touch.
Food was average for a French Italian restaurant. Service was good but expected better food.
Go for the 2nd story patio in nice weatherxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Service wonderful. Great ambiance Authentic cuisine. You can converse. Relaxed. Spotless. Everyone making a determined but understated effort. Will be back,
We celebrated a family birthday and were very pleased with the service and the food. The indoor dining area is so airy and the outdoor dining area is a nice oasis right off Montrose!
What a delightful find. Excellent craft cocktails and wine list. We completely enjoyed the octopus appetizer (tender and flavorful) and the cheese plate. The scallops, ravioli, and shrimp were all wonderful. The decor is very well executed. Our server Herman was very attentive and responsive to our every wish. Wish we lived in Houston so that we could visit more often. Looking forward to our next trip in December.
Like you’ve stepped into the breezy South of France! Excellent ambiance and delicious, authentic food. Fun happy hour choices.
Excellent food and very accommodating service, but the noise level is very offensive on Sundays.
Yummy brunch spot- very pretty decor. Can't wait to try for dinner!
Let me start by saying that i used to love this place. That said, it's the second time that i have a sub par dinner. Either cold or salty or poor service or under served (our waiter was the barman who turned out he wasn't a barman but was covering for the barman) The food was just ok and some of it too salty. We bumped into a couple that we know very well and they complained they couldn't eat their dinner because it was way too salty. The manager needs to get their act together, it's a great place with a great menu but very spotty execution.
If you go, you have to try the perfect egg. It is like hollandaise sauce almost. very rich, very tasty!!! Three of us went and we had appetizers of Mussels, Tartare and the Perfect Egg . No doggy bag needed!
Entrees- Bouillabaisse, duck and scallops. All wonderful. But choosing those was difficult - they had to compete with Steak Frites, Tenderloin with Foie Gras, Halibut...
We loved it.
Great experience. Eat downstairs if possible with local crowd having a jolly time with lots of laughter. Fantastic specialty pastacho ice cream dessert made table side. Will return .
