A fairly small room so be sure to make reservations if you are a larger group. There was 10 of us and we had a great meal and a very fun time. Excellent service!
Great location for the theater and a 10% discount. Nice service, very loud groups and wet pizza. Other dishes were great.
Our $21 “cheese plate” was a few blocks of cheese with nothing to accompany it and the server was totally ambivalent to us. For a $140 meal, pre-tip, I felt ripped off. We were spending a get away weekend in New York and expected a nice meal out and were happy to pay for it. But not for what we got.
Restaurant is very nicely done. Wait staff very attentive and informative. Very good well prepared and presented. Would definitely return.
Pasta needed more flavor
Although a bit pricy, food and service is excellent.
We dine here often. Right near where we live. Always satisfied with food, service, and ambiance.
Overpriced, underwhelming food. Not representative of Southern Italy at all.
This would be a neighborhood if the service wasn’t so awful. I eat there when I’m in a rush since I live in the same building. I was with a friend and our entrees were served 5 minutes apart. They got the drink order wrong and then argued with us. We ordered wine and they served us whiskey sours. And the waiter may be hard of hearing because he kept shouting at us as if we were deaf.
Met up with old friends before comedy club. Outstanding food. Reasonable prices. Salvatore our waiter was wonderful!!! Gratzi! Prego! Will be back!
Really enjoyable find! Great service and delicious food!
Excellent food and service.
Basic, not tasty pizza. Terribly plain salads, steak was not fresh.
Great meal! Was here from out of town, waited old school Italian. Great recommendations kids(teenagers) loved it. Would come back. Reasonably priced.
We were on our way to the Intrepid Museum and decided to book La Vela. The food and service are excellent. The food portions are large and it's quiet enough that you can hear each other speak without yelling. Nice sunny place on the West Side. Modern decor, seems brand new. Waiter spoke Italian, so that was great. Go there and bring your family. Highly recommend it.
We were very well advised by a real Italian who seemed to love the plates, good Italian tastes
The bolognese sauce does not taste homemade or fresh but more like something out of a can or container.
Always very pleased with this restaurant. Warm welcome, excellent service and wonderful food. We eat there often since it is a neighborhood establishment.
Found this looking for a nice restaurant near the Javits Center. The reviews looked quite good. It was excellent! Both pasta dishes were superb. The service was good. Would happily dine there again.
Something wasnt right With the pizza. Something tasted like it was overdue
Cannot name a specific dish because EVERYTHING we ordered was excellent - I have never had a less than very good dish here. Service was marvelous. There were three of us dining at 6:00 PM on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet, however it was only about 25% occupied. It SHOULD be fully occupied considering the quality of the food and service. HIGHLY recommended by me.
Such a relaxing evening! Great wine, pizza and service!
Found La Vela on Yelp based on great reviews. Aside from the quality of the food, the service was excellent. Our waiter turned dinner into an event with memories. Very much appreciated.
Great food! Great service! Absolutely delicious! 😋
Great food, Italian owner came over and showed my gf how to eat pasta properly (spoon + fork). It was a good time.
Nice spot in a slightly out-of-the-way, up-and-coming neighborhood. Service was very good and the food was terrific.
Great service. Outstanding food. Calm atmosphere. Attentive wait staff. Highly recommend.
Perfect neighborhood gem! Always great food and service
Had a lunch business meeting at La Vela during NRF show at the Javits Center. About a 5-6 minute walk from the venue, La Vela’s food is incredible. We shared the fried Calimari appetizer and all ordered varieties of chicken dishes. The pacing of the service was perfect, it wasn’t too loud, and our lunch meeting was a success.
I highly recommend La Vela.
La Vela is a quaint gem with delicious Italian food and gluten free options! Great wine selection. This is great for a neighborhood night out or a business meeting.
The service was very slow, even though the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. The food was okay, but was barely warm when it arrived. It was difficult to get the attention of our waiter. It was disappointing.
Another successful night out at La Vela! My husband and I frequent this place and as always, never a let down. We went for New Year's Eve and several items from their special menu for the night. Everything was above expectations! We started with great cocktails, then for apps we had the lobster bisque which was amazing, the baked clams pack a big punch of flavor, and the steak and lobster were perfectly cooked! The night was even more special as they had a guest jazz singer who filled the air with festive sounds. I highly recommend anyone looking for an Italian meal to make a reservation and let their taste buds do the judging!
Delicious food. The Chef and owner came out to greet guest. Very attentive staff. Delightful Old Fashioned crafted bar drink. Great location near Circle Line Cruises. Open late which makes dinner after a harbor cruise wonderful.
Our waiter was a wonderful gentleman who obviously enjoyed his work. The fare was delicious. The almond cake and tiramisu we're both outstanding.
Had dinner here with my husband on Christmas Eve, pasta was the best we’ve ever tasted and very authentic. Reasonable price and great gluten free pasta, will definitely return every time we come to New York. Owner was very attentive and made sure our evening was memorable.
Everything was great except for one critical thing - the staff isn't careful enough about food allergies.
My mom is severely allergic to eggs, and as she ordered she emphasized this to the waiter, saying it multiple times. He acknowledged it. My dad also turned to him and said something like "this is really important - it's very dangerous for her to have even a little bit of eggs anywhere in the food". He seemed to understand.
There were eggs in the salad dressing anyway, and my mom started reacting immediately. When she informed the waiter, he went and checked and said "oh it's only a little bit of eggs", which really made me angry because it shows he didn't take allergies seriously.
Upon further questioning he said that he worked at another restaurant where they made a vinaigrette dressing where they didn't use eggs, and so he assumed there would be no eggs in the dressing here either, and so only wrote down "no eggs" for the main course and not the salad.
You should never make assumptions when dealing with allergies. People can die! In my mom's case, she didn't have to go to the hospital, but she had to deal with an unpleasant allergic reaction for the rest of the night and also had to take Benadryl, both of which kind of ruined the evening for her.
I hope La Vela makes a stronger and more clear policy regarding food allergies, as it can be very serious and really hurt someone if not treated extremely seriously.
Food was great and convenient to the theatres. Greeter was very helpful and had good food suggestions.
Brilliant evening. I think it was the he owner who served us all the evening and his recommendations were brilliant. A bit of theatre when he finalises the food in front of you. Family feeling restaurant
A truly pleasant surprise on the west side. This place is a hidden gem. Everything was delicious. From the caprese salad to the lobster ravioli, all were extremely well prepared. And the house wines are just as good as the meal. I am a huge fan.
We love this restaurant and visit it whenever we are in town. It is in walking distance from the Circle Line Harbor tour, which is how we found it. The Osso Bucco is tasty and tender. The Sacchetti is delicious. Service was attentive and the ambiance very nice. I will keep going back, just wish I lived closer.
