   The food was fantastic! We will go back for the food. Drinks are way over priced $8 for a glass of house wine. They also need new to better train their staff. Our server was running around like a crazy person and there were no more than 10 people in the restaurants. Employees were sitting at the bar with their girlfriends and kitchen staff was hanging out at the bar. Also nothing is less than romantic when you have Impractical Jokers on all of the large screen tv. The vibe of this place is romantic, as most Italian restaurants are. Yet it screams drive bar with the employees and atmosphere choices.

   This was the worst. Waitress couldn't tell me which beers they had. We were never given any bread. Our drinks (soda) were not refilled once. My wife described her chicken as "thawed really quick and then cooked at a high a temperature". My spaghetti and meatballs was average at best. The hostess did not say good evening or thank you as we walked by them when we left; they just stood there and chatted with each other. I give this two thumbs down on every front.

   I do not like to post bad reviews because i figure if the place is bad it will eventually go out of business. But this place was so exceptionally bad that I felt diners should beware. It was by far the wort service ever - hands down - it was a horrible experience. We tried to make it better by bringing it to the attention of several other staff members, who said they would let management know, but we continued to be ignored by both the server and management. I understand that mistakes happen, but when management received multiple pleas, and our table continued to be ignored, that is unacceptable.

   It was a disappointing experience. Despite making a reservation 2 weeks in advance, they ran out of food and we ended up having to leave without dinner. We were lucky to find a bar/restaurant nearby that was willing to take us without a reservation being that it was New Year's Eve. This will be my first and last time at LaVela. A lot of apologies but no offers made to rectify the situation.

   This was a hudge disappointment had we read the reviews we would of chose another restaurant. Not many people there on news years and here's why! Food overpriced - staff was inexperienced didn't know menu could not keep up with tables drinks napkins food! Didn't like my food / manager took my plate back to kitchen walked thru restaurant to show chef - and returned it to me and said too bad nothing we can do - so my food went thru assembly line who knows who touched it and forced to eat it no way - went round and round couldn't make me happy - very cheap with satisfying customers and this is why there are so many bad reviews!!! Don't waste yr money !

   Service was very poor. The entree was served before the salad. The server not our waiter asked if we would now want are salad. We were anxious to leave and cut our losses. The entrees were quite good. We won't be back. There are to many other good restaurants.

   Won't be coming back here, I promise you and based on the other reviews, I can see for the most past I am not wrong. Initially, we got seated inside per our preference but then were told that the hostess was wrong, that they were turning into a nightclub inside (at 8:30 on a Friday) and we had to be seated outside. Myself and my three dining companions were all rushed through ordering because the kitchen was closing at 9. I asked the waitress for a Moscow Mule and she looked like I had two heads. She went to the bartender who apparently told her he could make it after looking it up online (seriously?!) but when I received it, it was Sprite and vodka, pretty much. Also, my friend's pasta noodles were cooked together and if you're going to pay $20 for fettuccine alfredo that includes an EXTRA $6 if you want 4 measly shrimp added to it, your pasta better be cooked accordingly. The sauce was good but it wasn't $20 good to accept poorly-cooked pasta. And so, our experience escalated to the point that the manager was called over after the waitress pretty much told my friend the cook said he was cooking it over again and demanded he eat it. Not given a choice. The manager apologized profusely and comped the pasta but the waitress' attitude (some young thing who just turned 21 according to her) continued to get the best of her and she was tipped accordingly (even though she ran after my party in haste to hand us the money back as we were leaving, saying we needed it more than she did. /smh). I've been told by several people that there's a high turnover at this place for staff and it shows. In short, there are FAR BETTER places to eat and drink in downtown Melbourne. STAY AWAY.

    The hostess was rude, as others have stated. Not a good representative for a relatively new place downtown Melbourne. The food was excellent when it finally arrived. But we waited more than 2 hours to get our meat and cheese board and caprese salad. The pizza actually arrived first. It was very good, though. The ambiance at night is very nice. But with so many other choices to eat downtown, they need to get their service issues straightened out quickly.
