Apple cider and honey glazed pork belly served with crushed potatoes, pancetta and sage sauce garnished with parsnip crisps
Home made lasagne served with garlic pizza bread garnished with balsamic rocket
Sea Bass Fillet
With cherry tomato, lemon and caper sauce served with green beans and roasted new potatoes
Sadly not as good as we remembered. Waitresses were quite indifferent and little ambience. The food was quite nice but could be a much better experience.
Fantastic food and service
Didn’t get the table in conservatory,as requested, but the staff were extremely friendly.
Special shout out to David, Anna and Drew!!!
Thanks for making my husband feel special on him s Birthday x
We arrived 7:15 and we started eating 8:30. The service was soo slow. The whole restaurant was smelling food ( no ventilation what so ever). The venue looks very luxurious but the moment you sit down you understand that the quality of everything else is much much lower…
Very busy, but service was good and food was excellent.
Hugely overpriced for the quality of food, the ambience and service. The exterior of the building is nice but once you get in it feels cheap and the rest of the experience confirmed it. The tomato soup was as thick as pasta sauce, the ribeye had little puddles of darkened blood on it and pasta was below average low end Italian chain restaurant.
Amazing food, fantastic value, beautiful surroundings
The food was very good. Service was ok although the waiters appeared to be going through the motions a little.
Ambiance pleasant although lighting rather too bright white and Sonos sound system not playing.
Sunday lunch with family. Very relaxing and comfortable with good food and friendly service. The only fault was that the service was a little slow. Maybe a bit short staffed? We were chatting and not in any rush but even so we felt we were waiting a long time between starters and mains
Very good value set lunch menu. Plenty of choice, tasty food, and attentive and professional service. Our favourite place for a treat on Saturdays.
Welcome was a little frosty but waiting staff excellent and food and wine was of a high standard.
After booking my table online and asking for a lovely table I was visiting my son in his 3rd year at York University and bringing my 81 year old mum, we were treated like 2nd class citizens being put in an empty room as you walked in the building, when I asked why we couldn't go where everyone else was sat, I was told because I'd booked online and it didn't give the option and people who phoned up and were asked about the conservatory seating, got preference. I find this very discriminatory towards booking online if you are a visitor and not a regular customer in York. On top of that, the food was not special, it was very bland for the price. I wouldn't go again.
As per usual, attentive, friendly staff, excellent food, excellent value. Love this place!
The food was not as good as last time I ate here (pre lockdown) so was a little disappointed.
We had a lovely table by the window, thank you. Our main course seemed to go astray which was ok because we had a lot of catching up to do…
The toilets got very messy - toilet roll all over the floor, which is entirely the customer’s fault, but maybe they should be checked by staff.
We were celebrating my wife's 40th Birthday and i had mentioned this in correspondence with the restaurant to arriving. On the day they couldn't be more helpful, staff were chatty but not intrusive, food was excellent, we were allowed as much time as we wanted at the table and they even gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly to celebrate! We have been several times and i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting York and looking for a lovely place to eat, a high quality meal in beautiful surroundings.
Squashed 5 on a table for 4. Very noisy. Poor quality food - one incorrect order, steak dry and Seabass dish not fresh- as if accompaniments had been kept warm for some time.
Lovely place and lunch menu and cocktail deals were amazing value, can’t wait to go back!
Very pleasant venue for a working lunch. Good food, very nice atmosphere in the conservatory and excellent service.
I think there could be more pasta choices on the menu, particularly for lunchtime, and as a regular diner at La Vecchia Scuola, I think there needs to be more changes to the menu from time to time.
Excellent food and service. Friendly staff. A lovely anniversary meal, in a beautiful setting.
Nice Italian food with plenty of choice - more upmarket than the high street chains but not super extravagant. Lovely decor and setting, would recommend.
We had the seafood linguine which was very bland and lacked seasoning. Very disappointing.
Nice set menu. Good value. Great service. Will come again
Lovely food, nice atmosphere and good value set lunch
Delicious food lovely atmosphere,
our 4th visit would definitely recommend to friends
Very competitively fixed priced menu with a good choice of starters, mains and puddings. Authentic Italian dishes of ample portions and well presented. Good reasonably priced wine list.
Great setting in the conservatory which made for an excellent dining experience.
Did not enjoy the folded pizza. Fairly tasteless. The tomato sauce just fell off it. Chicken dish good although the chicken could have been more tender. The plates and food could have been hotter. The desserts were excellent. The panacotta was one of the best I have ever eaten. The raspberry coulis and sorbet were delicious. The tiramisu was also pretty good.
We were put in the conservatory which overlooked a nice garden. The service was very quick and friendly. The food came really quickly too would recommend eating there
Had a great time after a long period away from York; thanks to the staff for their hard work and the lovely food! Sitting in the conservatory is definitely the way to go, great view and fab food, will be back
The food and service were excellent, we really couldn’t fault it and such a beautiful building but such a shame the pianist was so loud you couldn’t speak to one another.
He was popular with the party that was dining but ruined the atmosphere for other diners who wanted a quality meal out.
If the restaurant wants to continue down this route could we suggest they book parties and the pianist in designated rooms upstairs, or have the pianist as background, less intrusive sophisticated noise.
Our third visit. Food was delicious and the service good. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely return.
Fabulous service and food, staff went above and beyond and we’re so friendly. Will definitely return on our next visit to York.
Food was excellent, very tasty and great value for money. My mother in law said it was the best she’s eaten for a long long time so it must have been excellent. Staff were great, friendly and efficient. We sat in a smaller room which was perfect but it can be very busy and noisy in the large restaurant. We will be back
Great food with great service in a very pleasant atmosphere, lovely building 👍👍
Set 3 course menu good value for money , we will be back
We had a great meal and staff were very attentive. Great value for money
Regular visit when in York
Mixture of set menu and A la carte
Have had far better Italian meals the garlic mushroom starter could quite easily of been labelled mushroom soup, the king prawn one was over powered with tomatoes and the main courses of fillet steak and sea bass were over seasoned far too salty
The food here was fantastic, not had a steak as nice as that for a while. The biscoff cheesecake was also excellent. The staff were really friendly and attentive but a little bit forgetful about various parts of the order.
A regular visit for my wife and I whenever we visit York. Already booked a family get together there in January for our Golden Wedding anniversary!
The starters were fantastic but unfortunately the pizzas were a disappointment - bland and dry. My pizza had several types of spicy sausage but the only thing that tasted of anything was the chicken! The dough and sauce were equally tasteless.
I can only hope that the other dishes on the menu are the same quality as the starters as we were genuinely surprised by the differing quality between the two.
Service was excellent and the place has a great atmosphere. Overall I'd recommend but just avoid the pizzas.
