Very pleased and impressed with our dining experience--great food and service. We sat outdoors under the awning with a nice evening breeze helped a bit by a few overhead fans. Our shrimp appetizer was superb as were our dinner choices (monkfish and penne with broccoli). We had an attentive waiter who was quick with bread and with water refills. Highly recommend.

La Tomate is reliable and steady. The prices are reasonable, the food is uniformly good and sometimes creative, and the wine list is decent. The service was prompt and efficient but unobtrusive. We were there on a Saturday night. They allowed us to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace without rushing us. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The portion sizes are perfect - enough to fill you without stuffing you.

It was very noisy and the space was tiny. All of the tables were close together so you could hear everyone's conversation. Our server was nice but it was horrible service .. they definitely need to hire more servers. On the other hand the food was decent, but they seems to be out of a lot of things on the menu at the time we went.

We haven't eaten here in awhile. The service was VERY slow and virtually non-existent, though we were in a table set off by itself. Some of the food was excellent but some was just okay

This is a great place! The food is very good — we had a cheese board and a few pastas, plus wine — but what really made this a great night out was the excellent and attentive service despite a completely packed house. Things got a little slow, but Rafael was very communicative and friendly. This is a beautifully cozy, warm space. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is always pleasant and welcoming with reliably good food and service. I particularly enjoy the fact that it is possible to have good conversation without having to shout over music or other diners. The servers are always available but never intrusive. I regularly bring out of town guests here for a delicious meal and nice setting. Thank you!

Typical of what was a thoroughly unpleasant meal was when the waiter brought one very sad looking Caesar salad to the Table. My friend and I said we had each ordered a Caesar salad. No, the water said, that was the last one. All out. Of salad at 8:45 p.m. And that particular salad looked and tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier. Everything served also tasted as if it had been cooked the day before. I was surprised and disappointed since many friends said they had good meals there. Terrible all the way around.

Hadn't eaten there in a while and was disappointed. The menu seemed to have shrunk. Only a handful of pasta choices and none of them were appealing. My fault for picking fergola, which I didn't know was very similar in shape and consistency to quinoa, which I detest. Bread was good. Service was slow. No accessible restrooms.

As usual the food was quite good but this time the service was really lacking. Not sure what the issue was since it was not crowded but our waiter was MIA most of the time we were there.

Though not frequently, I have been going to La Tomate for more than 10 years. I have always it was under rated. The food is always very good, atmosphere is very nice, and service is good. A very nice plus is that it is one of those increasing rare restaurants where you actually have a conversion without shouting.

Host and Hostess polite, seated immediately. Table and chairs comfortable. Water immediately. Bread at 10 minutes and waiter at 15, we ordered drinks...GF's cocktail tasty, not watered. My Chianti was "warm" and not great..I don't like warm wine. Olives nice and octopus salad very tasty. Our entrees took a long time to come and we noticed people who came in after us being served before us. Entrees excellent. Desserts were very good as well. Moderate noise because of someone at the next table sort of acting like he was at a frat house...not the restaurants problem. So, warm wine "yuck," great food and slow service. Will give it a second look because the food was great and will return the wine if it's warm enough to bathe in again...

We have eaten at La Tomate several times over the years. The last trip, lunch, was exceptional because service was slow - usually it is much better. We were outside on their patio, and there was a lot of traffic, including several emergency vehicles and VIP motorcades - so it was loud for much of the time. Food, as usual, was really good.

Our meals were 40min late, cold and when I asked the waiter to please let us know the status he avoided coming by to let us know how long the wait was. Very disappointed it was my mothers birthday and she did not have a pleasant evening.

Went for dinner, started with the Parma Prosciutto, which was fantastic! I got the Caesar salad - which for as simple as it is, was one of the best Caesars I've had in a long time. I also go the squid ink linguine with pesto and Branzino, which was fantastic! My husband got the Fregola, and it was just so-so. Last time we were there, the same thing happened, he got one thing that was fantastic and I got a special of the day which was just so-so. I will definitely go back - I think it's just a matter of ordering the right things!

The food was authentic Italian. but my friend and I were a bit disappointed with the service. Upon taking our order, the waiter gave us water as requested. He gave the appetizer but did not give us bread until we asked him. While on the other table, as soon as the customers were seated, he immediately gave bread. He also refilled the water glass half way only. and we had to ask for more.

It was easy to get to via METRO; about 2 blocks up from the Dupont Circle Q Street entrance. Upon checking in, my friends were already there waiting for me to show up and we were seated fairly quickly. A small venue but would be difficult if you are unable to go up/down stairs. We were seated upstairs (didn't realize they had seating up where you could see the street below; view was nice). Food did not disappoint (who doesn't like Italian?) Great place for me and friends to finally get together and catch up on what's been going on...good food, good wine, good conversation...no complaints. Bread was sooooooo good we ate lots of it! Food was filling so we didn't get dessert. Would go back!
