La Tomate Ratings and Reviews
Below average food and very disappointed! I ordered my pasta bolognese and within three minutes of my order my food arrived. The plate was super hot which leads me to believe they don’t make it to order. They have pre made sauce and microwave it! The wine selection wasn’t good and neither was the food selection . I will honestly say that this was my only bad meal while visiting Washington.
The evening was perfect. We had a great table outside on a gorgeous night. The server was excellent. The timing of the meal was perfect and they made the birthday celebration so special. And the meal was fabulous. Everything was excellent. My new favorite restaurant. Local feel, authentic and I felt like I as in Europe. Outstanding. It is truly a neighborhood gem with a downtown vibe.
Great place for a simple meal and chat. I wish there were more options on the menu such as soups. Moreover, the food was delicious!. I would appreciate putting a note on the menu about the gratuity being added to the bill for groups of 5 or more. I had to explain my international friends about the rule of the gratuity. They were in shock of the addition of the tip to the bill.
I loved our simple pasta dishes...the tomato sauce was rich and flavorable and definitely home made. The bread was equally good as was the simple green salad I requested. The wine menu could be stepped up, but otherwise I wouldn't change a thing. It feels like a small, intime restaurant in Europe with a small garden and outdoor seating to boot!
Went for the restaurants 30th anniversary celebration meal. I enjoyed my pre dinner cocktail (very strong) but the meal was downhill from there. The salad came out after the entree (the host did apologize and give free glass of wine to me and my date) but the salad was supposed to be a Santorini salad, which I've had in Greece. What as served to us was mixed greens with pears...A Greek salad does not have lettuce or Greens: this was very disappointing. Then the pork entree was dry and flavorless and reminded me of cuts of Thanksgiving turkey. Finally, the tiramisu, my favorite dessert, was bland. I am really not that picky of a person but this dinner was quite lackluster and the service was extremely slow. I've had a few good dinners at this restaurant in the past but I definitely will not be back for a long time.
I went here with my aunt for dinner during restaurant week and we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience! The environment had just the right level of sound without being intrusive and the chocolate mousse we had for dessert was excellent! Would highly recommend!
La Tomate has always been one of our favorite restaurants, this night we brought 2 friends who had not dined here before....they were not disappointed! Excellent service and wait staff, very attentive waiter, food and wine was superb, we had a great indoor seat for people watching, definitely will be back and bring more friends!!
We live in the neighborhood and when we want a place with a little something special -- we Go to La Tomate...and it never disappoints. Try the Prosciutto sampler for 2 or 4 ! we always try to sit at the windows in the bar area -- but there are a lot of cute places to dine.
Quality of dishes we ordered were okay, not great. Menu offerings were lackluster and all over the map. Bread offered as a side was burnt. Manager was nice, however service from our waiter was snobby and inattentive. Plumbing leak from kitchen/bathrooms was a bit concerning with an overwhelming smell of bleach. Seemed to have a strong local crowd, perhaps this was just an off night? A bit disappointed considering the price point and other user reviews.
