Was having a nice quiet dinner until I noticed a mouse running along the length of the bar. I discretely brought it to the managers attention. No appollogy, Nothing! They should condemn this place
The food was delicious, the wine excellent and the service outstanding! Very comfortable and welcoming.
I reserved for two seats but usually when I show up without reservations I get a better table. The one I got this time was a round little white table close to other tables which makes you uncomfortable because you sit too close to others.
The food was fantastic. Had an issue with my order, it got lost in the kitchen, so everyone around me got their food and nearly left before I even got my salad. The waiter was useless in straightening this out. But once I asked for the manager, he got things moving and covered my main dish along with a glass of wine. So in the end they made it right. The 3 star service comment is about the waiter- not the manager. He did his best to apologize and make it up to me. So great recovery!!!
On Sunday the grill was being repaired and only part of the menu was available. We shared three choices from prosciutto bar and each had a pasta: the seafood pasta made with squid ink and the Venetian ragú, served on papardelle in place of the menu’s listed rigatoni. Both pastas were tasty.
Expensive and disappointing. The food was so unimpressive. Not even the olive oil was good.
On the first beautiful Spring day there couldn't have been a better spot for lunch. We opted to sit inside but the wrap-around Windows made it perfect. The restaurant has a generous covered outdoor dining area as well. My guest had ravioli, I chose the ahi tuna salad. Both were exquisite. This longtime Dupont restaurant is a gem. Highly recommend. Service was 5-star. Ask for Anthony.
Had the tagliatelle bolognese, which was very good. Turns out the pasta is housemate. Quite a small portion, though. Not really dinner-sized. I don't like it when they are stingy with the portions. Was seated near the bar where some men folks were watching the golf tournament. Noisy. Ugh. Should have requested a quieter corner.
Excellent food, creative and yet with an authentic vibe. The meal was great but the dessert was outstanding! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Delicious and healthy italian meal served by friendly wait staff in a lovely setting next to a large window perfect for people-watching on prime corner in Dupont Circle. This was my second visit since the new menu was unveiled and I enjoyed both meals very much. Looking forward to the weather improving to plan a happy hour and dinner with friends on the outdoor patio! Highly recommend!
Have been eating at this DuPont Circle gem for a few years now. Always great food, superb service and fairly priced! A new (early 2018) Chef has improved an already great menu. Have taken serious foodies from out of town here and they all enjoyed the experience.
Perfect special occasion celebration w/drinks/dinner and dessert on Saturday night. As always, enjoyed people watching from a cozy window table, service was friendly, welcoming and impeccable. Excellent dinner recommendations/suggestions by wait staff, La Tomate is our favorite place to enjoy special moments and excellent dining options.
Amazing food with such kind staff. Getting a cheese board is a MUST!
Worst meal ever. They changed their menu but haven't BOTHERED to change it in Google. Horrible new menu! Won't return! Love down the block. Shame they changed such a neighborhood gem.
Absolutely delightful, great food and service. Warm inviting atmosphere.
As always, friendly, efficient, professional and also very PERSONAL service from everyone from the host, the waiter, and the bus boys! ~ thanks for another wonderful evening!
La Tomate has been in the DC area for a very long time. I had not been here for many years due to the explosion of new restaurants. I have to say I was overall disappointed for my Valentines dinner. Although the branzino was good other restaurants are offering better quality and tasting dishes. I was really disappointed with the buffalo mozzarella appetizer. It was tasteless. My dates pasta dish was ho-hum. The portions are small but the price high. La Tomate had its time but it's now past.
Great experience. Great food! Staff helped make my husbands birthday special!
I am a regular Happy Hour customer. This time I had a cabaret concert nearby to which I was taking my spouse and two friends. I was greatly impressed with the nice table they reserved honoring my request (I said if possible); by the friendly welcoming of Jonathan, the manager; and the excellent service and fun sense of humor of our waiter Rashid. Overall, an enjoyable experience. I will definitely come back. Thank you Jonathan and Rashid for the great dining experience. Juan
Good food, good value, slow delivery of entrees with no update from waiter, hence the service rating. But they did generously make up for the problem, and we'll definitely return.
We had a reservation for 9:30pm after taking the Moonlight Monument Tour. Our cab driver was a little confused on how to get there, so we were about 5 minutes late. We were acknowledged as soon as we walked in by a man that looked like he was just relaxing at the bar. He greeted us then sternly said, “I will be shutting down the kitchen at promptly 9:45!” By this time I gather that he must have been the manager or owner, regardless, kinda rude.
Our waiter was kind and friendly and poured our bottle of wine generously...making sure we didn’t take too long finishing it. We ordered quickly, we ate quickly and we left quickly.
The conversation going on at the bar between the bartender and a customer was vulgar and political and not professional by any means.
And....we weren’t the last ones to leave the restaurant. A group of ladies that were there before us were still there after we left. Maybe they should have been the ones to be rushed.
Overall, the food was tasty. The server was nice. What could have been a great review was ruined by the manager/owner? being pushy and rushing us up-front.
Mind you, this restaurant was talked about on a Big Bus Tour and was where Chelsea Clinton had her first date...with a ton of Secret Service Agents around. I thought it would be a cool place to visit, but it’s just regular, nothing fancy.
Excellent neighborhood restaurant - great pasta and seafood too as well as other menu items we have tried..
Excellent Italian, as it has been for 30 years. Jonathan runs a great restaurant, very professional, very cognizant of the best choices for that day.
Have been enjoying the shrimp with squid ink pasta for several years now. Excellent, always. Very nice dry white wine.
An absolutely wonderful birthday lunch.
La Tomate continues to be my go to restaurant in Washington. Impeccably consistent with great service, food, and ambiance. I love this place.
La Tomate was a great little Italian spot! The seating is interesting, as there are many parts of the restaurant to sit in and each seems like a different feel. The area by the bar is usually more busy and cozy at night. We ended up sitting on the upper level which was nice. The service was absolutely perfect and the food was delicious.
Third time there, possibly again, not sure. Waiter over-worked and never checked with us after server brought the food to see if we were okay...we weren’t. Girlfriend’ entree wrong, I had to get up and go find the manager. He made it right, but still a pain. Appetizers: bruschetta too hard and difficult to eat, calamari good, olives good and Caesar salad very good. Entrees were tasty. Mixed drinks no alcohol. Gets back to service. This was a problem the other two times...slow and NO follow-up to see how we were. I guess we return because of the entrees.
Its not amazing, hip, or particularly posh. It is a great place to drop in for good pasta, solid appetizers and entrees. Even all around. Priced fair as well! the staff is very friendly.
La Tomate is a neighborhood gem as much for the wonderful service and friendly atmosphere as for the delicious food, the great out-door-on the avenue dining in good weather as well as the cosy atmosphere that makes a person or a family gathering feel special no matter what time of year it is!
Great location at DuPont; friendly neighborhood dining spot for locals and visitors. Dependable quality Italian fare and a classic bar. Always a pleasure to eat here!
This is one of my very favorite restaurants in the Dupont Circle Area.
We were there to celebrate a friend's son's birthday. He turned 6! The staff was understanding, pleasant and aimed to please our little celebrant!
The food and service were outstanding.
Fantastic Service and great specials. Everyone was very nice the host, bartender and waiter.
Excellent choice for Christmas dinner.
Great choices for special seafood Christmas Meal! Perhaps, you should consider as a special more frequently to supplement standard menu.
I have been to La Tomate several times and every time I eat there I enjoy the meal immensely. This was my first time having brunch and it was no exception. The bottomless mimosas were wonderful and the food was delicious. We had a lovely window table where could watch passersby and enjoy their incredible food. Their prosciutto makes you wonder whether you are in Italy. And there service is old world courteous.
Always consistent. Have been coming for years - almost 20:)
Excellent and varied lunch choices. Two soup specials were quite good. All three of us had a different glass of wine. The House Pinot, Chianti and Cabernet were all commendable.
Expensive, poor value for price on every level. But quiet and pleasant service. Used to be wonderful...wont return.
The service was good as always. My only complaint is that the food was too salty.
Excellent eatery two blocks from DuPont Circle metro. Terrific food and the wait staff is very attentive (without being obnoxious). Just an overall wonderful dining experience.
