The wait staff was unbelievable. So friendly and making sure we were satisfied with our meal. The hostess even gave our 5-year-old a cookie. Reminded me of being part of big Italian family.

La Tomate never disappoints, it has a unique personality and they actually serve dinner not "tapas" style mini dishes. If you want to get away from the craziness of 14th st and enjoy a tranquil venue, this is the place to be.

I have been there many times over the years for business and personal dinners. I have always enjoyed it. The food is very good, as is the atmosphere and service. I do like the ravioli....

Wonderful restaurant near Dupont Circle. Unfortunately the service was very uneven: slow, forgetful, a bit sloppy here and there.

Below average food and very disappointed! I ordered my pasta bolognese and within three minutes of my order my food arrived. The plate was super hot which leads me to believe they don’t make it to order. They have pre made sauce and microwave it! The wine selection wasn’t good and neither was the food selection . I will honestly say that this was my only bad meal while visiting Washington.

Thank you La Tomate for another great experience. Food, service, and ambiance all above expectations. The salmon entree and the pasta special were both delightful. Dining on the patio is a must!

The evening was perfect. We had a great table outside on a gorgeous night. The server was excellent. The timing of the meal was perfect and they made the birthday celebration so special. And the meal was fabulous. Everything was excellent. My new favorite restaurant. Local feel, authentic and I felt like I as in Europe. Outstanding. It is truly a neighborhood gem with a downtown vibe.

Wonderful Italian food and delicious fish dishes in one of the best locations in town. Excellent value and great view of those ambling up and down Connecticut. This is a neighborhood treasure.

Great place for a simple meal and chat. I wish there were more options on the menu such as soups. Moreover, the food was delicious!. I would appreciate putting a note on the menu about the gratuity being added to the bill for groups of 5 or more. I had to explain my international friends about the rule of the gratuity. They were in shock of the addition of the tip to the bill.

I loved our simple pasta dishes...the tomato sauce was rich and flavorable and definitely home made. The bread was equally good as was the simple green salad I requested. The wine menu could be stepped up, but otherwise I wouldn't change a thing. It feels like a small, intime restaurant in Europe with a small garden and outdoor seating to boot!

Went with two friends on Sunday for brunch and we all left less than impressed. Besides the bottomless mimosas, this selection was not worth checking out for brunch. Would probably come back to see if their dinner is worth it.

We had a very pleasant pre-theater dinner at La Tomate. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. We shared an excellent Caesar salad and then had the branzino and the paillard of beef. Both were delicious.

Went for the restaurants 30th anniversary celebration meal. I enjoyed my pre dinner cocktail (very strong) but the meal was downhill from there. The salad came out after the entree (the host did apologize and give free glass of wine to me and my date) but the salad was supposed to be a Santorini salad, which I've had in Greece. What as served to us was mixed greens with pears...A Greek salad does not have lettuce or Greens: this was very disappointing. Then the pork entree was dry and flavorless and reminded me of cuts of Thanksgiving turkey. Finally, the tiramisu, my favorite dessert, was bland. I am really not that picky of a person but this dinner was quite lackluster and the service was extremely slow. I've had a few good dinners at this restaurant in the past but I definitely will not be back for a long time.

Constantly providing good food and good atmosphere, this is our top priority dining place. With all ample capacity, it may sometimes easily become full at the busiest hours: you should better book in advance or visit there early.

We live in the neighborhood and when we want a place with a little something special -- we Go to La Tomate...and it never disappoints. Try the Prosciutto sampler for 2 or 4 ! we always try to sit at the windows in the bar area -- but there are a lot of cute places to dine.

Favorite Dopont restaurant from 15 years ago for 9 years in the neighborhood. Ate there twice for only four days in DC. Service, pasta, appetizers and a value were outstanding. Recommend a table in the bar area for street view and people watching.

Quality of dishes we ordered were okay, not great. Menu offerings were lackluster and all over the map. Bread offered as a side was burnt. Manager was nice, however service from our waiter was snobby and inattentive. Plumbing leak from kitchen/bathrooms was a bit concerning with an overwhelming smell of bleach. Seemed to have a strong local crowd, perhaps this was just an off night? A bit disappointed considering the price point and other user reviews.

The food was great, the ambiance was nice and the people watching was fantastic. That being said the service was awful! Our server vanished halfway through our meal and you would have thought we were invisible. We finally got someones attention to get drink refills after almost 15-20 minutes of being ignored and then anytime we wanted something someone from the table would have to get up and find someone. It took forever to get our check and then forever to get it back. The manager comped our coffees which was nice, but in my opinion it was too little too late. As we were leaving I saw our waiter upstairs on his cell phone. I would have given this place 4-5 star had the service not been so horrendous. Go at your own risk.
