    How could I have forgotten this place for so long. The experience was outstanding. Great beet salad and charred octopus appetizers. Ravioli with Swiss chard delicious as was the pork special. I will not forget this special restaurant again and be back many times and recommend to anyone seeking a special Italian restaurant.

    Fist visit with friends. We all ate something different and each of us really liked what we chose. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. We sat outside and the breeze was lovely and the traffic was not too loud.

    creamy Pasta I ordered was super spicy because of the black pepper it llitteralty burnt my mouth. I am normally pretty tolerant toward spices but that was more like accidentally added, splashed black pepper.

    Lunch at La Tomate is a delight - scrumptious food, excellent service, lovely outdoor deck. The only thing we'd change is the constant upselling - repeated efforts to get us to buy more food and drink.

    I love Ross restaurant. There are lovely cozy spaces where you feel as if you’re in a private nook with your party. I have my favorite tables. The servers are experienced and attentive, the food creative and delicious. I had the watermelon salad and pasta with lobster meat. Excellent!

    It's hard to find a restaurant that has been around in DC for as long as La Tomate has. If it has it means it has staying power and this place is no exception! The food was very good and the atmosphere is cute and airy. Little warm in the summertime because of all the windows but other than that, it was a great experience.

    The restaurant is a lovely place in a great location. It was easy to find. The wait staff was courteous and helpful without being obtrusive. I had an excellent frittata that I highly recommend for brunch. No one rushed us, and I had a chance to catch up with a family relative who I had not visited for a few years.

    A DC institution, we visited for lunch on Friday and had a great experience. We did the three course lunch menu which was great. Food was simple and very tasty. Service was also top-notch, we never needed a fresh drink or anything. We were always very well attended to.

    This restaurant is a gem! We enjoyed a double-date here with friends; it was their first experience at La Tomate, and they will be coming back! We had a show to catch, but gave ourselves plenty of time to enjoy appetizers, entrees, and dessert. We always enjoy asking for recommendations. The food was delicious and the wait staff was super friendly and fun. La Tomate never lets us down! It's a great place for dinner with friends, for special occasions, or simply to enjoy the food and atmosphere when you want to have delicious food and relax.

    Great ambience, great service. The only flaw was raspberry sauce on top of the chocolate mousse. Who wants that? It interferes with the flavor. Raspberry sauce should not be the default. It should be added only on request. We had to scrap it off to enjoy the chocolate mousse, which was excellent once we could taste it without the raspberry sauce.

    The restaurant is still a great place to duck in for a decent Italian lunch. The food was tasty and well prepared. The waiter was attentive and helpful and brought our dishes out promptly. The location is among La Tomate's chief virtues. On the down side, it was awfully noisy (tile floors, glass walls all reflect sound), to the extent of actively interfering with conversation. The place is showing a bit of its age, and the hostess gives off an air of mild indifference, something short of a warm and welcoming greeting.

    This was our first visit to this excellent Italian family-run restaurant. The owner greeted us at the door and a boy who appeared to be her grandson brought us our menus. Overall, service was cursory and a bit rushed, as it tends to be in restaurants post pandemic. The food is excellent with a wide variety of original choices. (We always regard it as a good sign when we can't make up our minds.) I had a cavatelli with broccoli and spicy sausage. My wife had the cacio e pepe, and both were well-prepared and delicious. My wife also had a wonderful squid dish as an appetizer. I had the homemade ice creams for dessert. The chocolate was unbelievably dark and rich, and the Sicilian pistachio had fresh, toasted flavor. My wife had the tiramisu which she loved. We will certainly return.

    The food was ok, and $$$ for the value. A bit over done with the sauces. Maybe simpler would be better. If you sit on the patio do not sit facing the wall, very brown and blank. Perhaps the ownership should place mirrors in the bottom of the glass panels that are painted that morose brown, so diners could see what is going on behind their back on the street. Other restaurant do this to great effect. Otherwise the patio is very pleasant on a summer evening.

    The service was excellent as was all of the food I ate. Delicious bread that didn’t even need any butter or olive oil. Great smoked salmon with brûléed grapefruit slices. Excellent cavatelli pasta with broccoli, ground sausage in a light sauce. And a great finish with decaf cappuccino and the crostata with hazelnut gelato and meringue. I could eat there every night!
