On vacation
We found this gem on a food tour of DuPont a month ago. We liked the vibe so we were compelled to come back and do the full meal. We were seated in a window area that was charming. The wait staff was engaging and personable. We started with the eggplant spread, burrata, and meat balls appetizers. All three were spot on! The table bread with a blend of balsamic/olive oil complemented the appetizers nicely. We moved on to the main course. We were a party of four, we ordered the Ravioli, Fusilloni, and two orders of the Bolognese. Everything was fabulous! The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauces for each dish was seasoned just right and blended with the pasta to make every bite an experience in food pleasure. We moved on to dessert. We opted to share a few desserts...we had the “donuts”, lemon infused cream, apple inspired crostada, and panna cotta. Each dessert had unique flavors. The donuts were my favorite but all the deserts we excellent. We complemented our desserts with cappuccinos for the perfect ending to a great experience. Do yourself a flavor, go check out La Tomate, your taste buds will be happy you did!!
Sat on the patio under the heaters for dinner, the food was fantastic, the service was good. Would absolutely recommend this place!
Food and ambience was great. Service was lacking.
New chairs! The chairs are so small and uncomfortable. I’d go back for the food. But if the chairs don’t get replaced, I’m not sure I’d go. I’m not a big person.
Polite efficient and took care of mistake with grace and removed from Bill. GreAt
Lovely evening had by all! Loved our service and the special Birthday beverages ! The manager , Natalie was so delightful and made us feel So welcome !
Great food. Quiet enough to hear others at the table talk. Good service. What more could you want
I really enjoyed the food but we waited 45 minutes for it. They either forgot about us or our meals took a very long time to make. We sat outside and in general it was lovely.
Our server was very sweet. He gave us complimentary champagne in anticipation of our wedding and offered some wedding advice. The appetizers / salads were very good (ceasar salad and calamari). The pasta dishes (rigatoni) was OK. It was more of a tomato sauce base, so lacked some of the creamy filling I would expect.
Our evening on the outdoor patio of La Tomate was excellent. We enjoyed a great Super Tuscan with the delicious soup, pasta, octopus and veggie sides we ordered. The service was outstanding and this is an excellent value. We will be back - there are so many more selections on the menu we want to try.
I dined here for an anniversary dinner with my partner. Overall, we had a very nice dinner. The cocktails were great and the prosuetto platter that we got was stunning and delicious. The rack of lamb plate was disappointing because the lam rack was quite small. Not worth the $28. The ravioli was good but too salty. A little less salt and it would be perfect. Our waiter was great!
Our seating, view, the service and the food were all excellent. It was a bit loud in the bar area primarily due to two women who were talking very loudly. Once they left, it was much easier to hear each other! We dined with out of town guests who said it was the best meal they had had while visiting DC.
The food and portions matched the value. Service was polite, but slow. Ambiance was nice as there wasa choice of indoor and outdoor seating.
I've consistently come to this place for years. I love the outdoor dining in the hustle and bustle of DuPont Circle. The food is very good. Service could be a little smoother and more attentive, but, it's not problematic.
Looks like the menu, the courses and the whole atmosphere had been refreshed.
Dishes presentation looks now even better, the food is delicious as always.
We had the tartar, burata salad and calamari and it was all great.
The desert of reduced apples, vanila Gelato and mareng was amazing.
Will return as we really love this place, a true taste of Italy.
Delicious food, great service, and a wonderful ambience.
I have been coming to LaTomate for many, many years. I have only been disappointed one time in 30 years with my meal, but that was the food, not the ambience or the staff. The chef is great, if only they could have wood fired pizza my dining experience would be complete!! I love the bar and the Happy Hour is also wonderful. I would highly recommend.
We have always loved this restaurant, but recently they have aquired a new chef who is an artist both with food and decorations and La Tomate has become a really fine food restaurant...fit for foodies...as well as an even more romantic place to dine.
The only drawback was that they seated us way in back with a view of a collection of what appeared to be pots and pans with paint on them. We found out later that it was an art exhibit. Weird.
This jewel in Dupont Circle never disappoints. I'm glad it is still easy to find a seat and it is located in a quiet area, far fro the 14th st craze.
Loved the service! Very homey vibe & the hostess surprised us Prosecco on the house to celebrate our anniversary! Will definitely return to this restaurant again when I am in D.C & recommend to friends.
Great food, good ambiance, comfortable outdoor seating, excellent service with good recommendations.
This was my favorite meal of all the meals on this trip to DC! Wonderful!
Soy turista ya había cenado allíun viaje el año os viene pasado
La comida es muy buena aunque los platos muy pequeños
We had a lovely dinner. There wasn’t one standout dish on the dinner menu, but everything was tasy and fresh. The wine my father chose was fantastic .
Our waiter was a mixture of unprepared and unfocused. He was slow to take our orders, and when asked what the soup of the day was, he said he didn’t know, and he went to go ask someone. I thought that was odd, falling somewhat in the “You have one job!” category. I mean, one job as in knowing the menu and how to take care of diners.
The mascarpone dessert was incredibly delicious!!
Food was delicious and service attentive!
A warm, hospitable home with quality food, excellent staff, and creative, diverse, and delectable menu.
Delicious and very accommodating to GF dining.
Will definitely be back!
Very good food and service
A very nice place for brunch. La Tomate has some great choices for brunch, and they are beutifully presented. Service is very nice, as well, and they had a great special for sharing an appetizer and a side, getting an entree, and a bottle of prosecco. Very good food. I will be back.
Dinner with an out of town friend
yes and I do so quite often, and will again after this evening
The food took a really long time to arrive. We were there almost two hours. Everyone was nice about it but I was a bit embarrassed as the host.
Most of the food was overcooked and terrible. The octopus entrée was burned to a crisp and nearly inedible. The main course was OK but nothing to brag about, except for the past dish that was also very bad. In general, dinner was overpriced and badly cooked. You won't see me there again.
La Tomate is likely my favorite neighborhood Italian Restaurant in DC. The waiter was very kind to us and allowed us to have a lunch menu item for our dinner. It was perfect. To boot we got to eat outside since the weather in DC this week was perfect!
I love La Tomate. It has the feel of an old fashioned bistro, combined with upscale Italian food.
Quaint dining spot, excellent service and great food. Exceeded our expectations
Good food, well-presented. My lamb chop was undercooked but delicious nonetheless. Service was chaotic. Sat, night, full house but seemed understaffed. Looked like 4 servers for maybe 30 tables outside. Maitre D' was running around, not clear if he was helping or just making everyone crazy. Took 10 min to greet us, had to ask for menus, later for more wine. Needs to be tightened up,
