A window-clad bar and dining room offer charming avenue views onto Connecticut avenue . Enjoy an extended season of “al fresco” dining on our lush outdoor patio.
La Tomate proudly inaugurated La Tomate Caffè adjacent to its current Bistro in which serves up brioche and homemade sweets, espresso, coffee drinks , traditional breakfast as well as artisanal-cut domestic and Italian charcuterie and panini.
We are committed to providing quality service and excellent food in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We invite you to join us for breakfast a casual lunch, happy hour, dinner, weekend brunch or group events.
Both of our bread plates were filthy. Dish I ordered wasn’t explained thoroughly but still was good. Bloody Mary barely had alcohol in it. I’ll probably go back to give it another chance
Unlike most of the wonderful Dupont Circle restaurants, La Tomate is different. It's quiet and not rushed. This is a great place to meet and really talk and hear from friends.
Vegetarian options weren’t available. Could be improvised with better pasta option.
Our service was incredibly slow, and two mistakes were made on food and drink orders. That said, the food was tasted great, but having to wait over 45 for an appetizer is completely uncalled for. The only time the service was quick was when they came to pick up the bill.
It was an excellent meal!
We celebrated Valentines day at La Tomate and the evening was fantastic. The wait staff seemed like family, the ambiance was romantic and the food was delicious.
We enen met the new
executive chef who is adding creativity to this long established DC restaurant. Delightful evening.
Most delicious Italian food! Ambience and service was better than we expected. Luis was attentive, knowledgeable - his recommendations were spot on.
The ceviche salad- amazing!
Linguini del mare - the best I’ve had- light, not overpowering in garlic or any one spice.
Cheese board- good choices of cheese and prosciutto
Always consistently good food. We eat here regularly and will keep going. A great place to meet with friends.
We enjoyed everything
Food was great, very nice ambiance and quiet! Only problem was the bill was wrong. We tried to split one third two thirds but both bills were two thirds so we were overcharged by one third. We got it straightened out without a problem
Hadn’t been for a while. The Pasta al Nero was just as good as I remember. Definitely going back more often.
As close to homemade Italian food as I’ve had. La Tomate was highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Enjoyed the service as well!
The service was efficient and courteous. The food was appropriate in portion, served hot, and was tasty.
Love the fettuccine bolognese!
The food at this place is absolutely amazing. Each person in our party of four was blown away by their entree. The tartar salmone was a highlight as an appetizer too. Ambiance is quiet, relaxing and beautiful. Great place for a date too.
One of the more charming Italian-American restaurants in DC, and long-lasting, which is not something to be overlooked. La Tomate offers a variety of seating set ups, from cozy, out of the way dining upstairs on its 2nd floor, to the glass-enclosed trapezoid that reaches out towards R Street, which is where my colleagues and I enjoyed the savory menu offerings for lunch on a quiet late holiday afternoon. Also noteworthy is that the wait staff are highly competent and attentive professionals of many years in the DC restaurant scene.
This was an extremely disappointing NYE experience. The restaurant did not advertise a limited prix fixe menu -- on social media or its own website -- but sprang it on us upon our arrival. Feeling like we didn't have any options as it was already fairly late in the day and the host assured us we would enjoy everything. We didn't.
excellent experience in general. the starter portion (scallop) was tiny!
Fabulous as usual at La Tomate
Justin was an excellent waiter. Friendly, well informed, attentive without being intrusive.
My friend greatly enjoyed his salmon, which looked beautiful and delicious.
As I have for over a decade, I had the Shrimp Nero, perfectly prepared shrimp w tomato sauce and squid ink pasta. Always fantastic.
Very much looking forward to the next time I get to eat at La Tomate.
Really good overall. They squeezed our party of 5 into a table for 4 but we managed.
Pastas were all great!
Waiter was great in beginning but then forgot about us after awhile so desert and paying took longer than wanted
Place is soooo charming.
Really reasonable given quality of good
We hadn’t been year in 30 years....it’s a great location and nice neighborhood place.
Good food and nice owner.
The menu doesn’t have that many options, but the ambiance and decoration is great
We found this gem on a food tour of DuPont a month ago. We liked the vibe so we were compelled to come back and do the full meal. We were seated in a window area that was charming. The wait staff was engaging and personable. We started with the eggplant spread, burrata, and meat balls appetizers. All three were spot on! The table bread with a blend of balsamic/olive oil complemented the appetizers nicely. We moved on to the main course. We were a party of four, we ordered the Ravioli, Fusilloni, and two orders of the Bolognese. Everything was fabulous! The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauces for each dish was seasoned just right and blended with the pasta to make every bite an experience in food pleasure. We moved on to dessert. We opted to share a few desserts...we had the “donuts”, lemon infused cream, apple inspired crostada, and panna cotta. Each dessert had unique flavors. The donuts were my favorite but all the deserts we excellent. We complemented our desserts with cappuccinos for the perfect ending to a great experience. Do yourself a flavor, go check out La Tomate, your taste buds will be happy you did!!
Sat on the patio under the heaters for dinner, the food was fantastic, the service was good. Would absolutely recommend this place!
Food and ambience was great. Service was lacking.
New chairs! The chairs are so small and uncomfortable. I’d go back for the food. But if the chairs don’t get replaced, I’m not sure I’d go. I’m not a big person.
Polite efficient and took care of mistake with grace and removed from Bill. GreAt
Lovely evening had by all! Loved our service and the special Birthday beverages ! The manager , Natalie was so delightful and made us feel So welcome !
Great food. Quiet enough to hear others at the table talk. Good service. What more could you want
I really enjoyed the food but we waited 45 minutes for it. They either forgot about us or our meals took a very long time to make. We sat outside and in general it was lovely.
Our server was very sweet. He gave us complimentary champagne in anticipation of our wedding and offered some wedding advice. The appetizers / salads were very good (ceasar salad and calamari). The pasta dishes (rigatoni) was OK. It was more of a tomato sauce base, so lacked some of the creamy filling I would expect.
Our evening on the outdoor patio of La Tomate was excellent. We enjoyed a great Super Tuscan with the delicious soup, pasta, octopus and veggie sides we ordered. The service was outstanding and this is an excellent value. We will be back - there are so many more selections on the menu we want to try.
I dined here for an anniversary dinner with my partner. Overall, we had a very nice dinner. The cocktails were great and the prosuetto platter that we got was stunning and delicious. The rack of lamb plate was disappointing because the lam rack was quite small. Not worth the $28. The ravioli was good but too salty. A little less salt and it would be perfect. Our waiter was great!
Our seating, view, the service and the food were all excellent. It was a bit loud in the bar area primarily due to two women who were talking very loudly. Once they left, it was much easier to hear each other! We dined with out of town guests who said it was the best meal they had had while visiting DC.
The food and portions matched the value. Service was polite, but slow. Ambiance was nice as there wasa choice of indoor and outdoor seating.
I've consistently come to this place for years. I love the outdoor dining in the hustle and bustle of DuPont Circle. The food is very good. Service could be a little smoother and more attentive, but, it's not problematic.
Looks like the menu, the courses and the whole atmosphere had been refreshed.
Dishes presentation looks now even better, the food is delicious as always.
We had the tartar, burata salad and calamari and it was all great.
The desert of reduced apples, vanila Gelato and mareng was amazing.
Will return as we really love this place, a true taste of Italy.
