La Tasca - Penn Quarter Ratings and Reviews
Service level was quite a struggle. Several things we’re missing and one had to be inquired about multiple times. Waitress often disappeared. The stand out in good service was a runner (very tall guy) who was great about removing used plates when he brought out new dishes.
The food was very good. The service was OK. Checked with us when we first arrived, we were not ready to order, but then it seemed like she did not come back for 15 minutes. After that misfire she was very attentive.
We started as a party of 4, then the fifth joined us about 30 minutes later. When we received our bill there was a 20% service charge included, we were surprised by that. Then, three others ordered a second glass of wine after we settled the bill, and a 20% service charge was added to that bill too. We thought that was very unusual.
The food served there is not to what I had expected according to the reviews. I am Spanish.
Spanish potato omelette: Tasteless, the potato and the onion were raw and cut into big pieces. There was mayonnaise on top of it (we never put mayonnaise on omelettes in Spain).
Artichokes and cured ham: Ham was too salty and bad-quality artichokes.
The cons: It’s a very loud space; one of our tapas never arrived; our server wasn’t very good about checking in with us, or timely in getting us our check; the aforementioned undelivered tapas was on our bill, so we had to ask to have it removed.
The pros: we loved all of the different tapas that we tried, and the paella as well; we arrived 20 minutes before our reservation time and they still sat us right away; I was able to get a reservation with less than 24-hours notice on a night when there was a concert at Verizon.
We booked this as a quick dinner and drinks spot before a concert at the Verizon center. The service was awesome! The food was great - we were able to order off of the Happy Hour Menu. I've been to the La Tasca in Alexandria as well, and both are just outstanding - one of my favorite places to go because they have something for everyone!
We love La Tasca! It is always a great dining experience -- this time it was pre-Caps opening day game and we were limited on time, but still enjoyed every single serving of our tapas selections as part of the Caps/Wiz menu. What good selections and a pitcher of sangria! thanks so much for a wonderful time... and service was exceptional! (Karol P -- the best!)
My friend and I came to La Tasca to enjoy a fun dinner before the Bruno Mars concert. Our visit exceeded all our expectations. We had a lovely server, Kelly S. who ensured that we had everything we needed and helped us with the best drinks to try. We left filled and delighted. We'll keep La Tasca in our future plans.
Every time I attend an event at the Verizon Center/Capitol One Arena I start my experience with tapas at La Tasca. I will note that one must budget time at this restaurant. It is popular, busy, and therefore food service can feel and be slow. That said, I usually succeed to complete dinner within an hour of my concert/game time.
I had read poor reviews of the restaurant on other sites but the reviews and averages here at Open Table are good so decided to give it a try. First off, it took 15+ mins for anyone to come to our table. I know there was a concert at Capital One arena but that's no excuse especially since there were even some open tables. We tried a bunch of the tapas and asked for some recommendations. Sorry to say almost all (except the mini burgers) were greasy, salty and really bad! Go to Oyamel, jaleos Zaytinia and the many other awesome restaurants nearby.
Atmosphere is fine. Our waiter was very attentive but the food came very slow from the kitchen, even though it wasn't very busy. We ordered the seafood paella- would give it a two on a scale of five. No vegetables in it at all and no real flavor. Not horrible- just not great. Overall I would be hesitant to try it again.
We live out of the Metro area, but visit once a year as part of our anniversary celebration and La Tasca is a perennial stop. This year's tapas list seemed shorter than we remember, but the plates delivered tasty morsels of very good fare. We arrived just after the lunch special expired and had time for a quiet hour and a half visit. We especially like the empanadas, the fried calamari and the stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates. So, after another enjoyable visit and meal at La Tasca, we are home, satisified and looking forward to our next visit.
We ate here for brunch on a Saturday as a party of 10. The food was very good; however, our service was not good. Two of us did not receive all of our tapas, and we waited a very long time to get our bill (which included the missing tapas!). I believe they did not have enough waitstaff as our server was also working behind the bar. We usually enjoy our time here, but that said i would recommend sitting at the bar for faster service.
This was very disappointing. My booking was confirmed online and when I went to the restaurant, they were closed and there was a paper sign on the door saying they were closed for a "company picnic". It completely through out mine and my friends plans for the afternoon.
Typical Tapas experience. The scallops and mushrooms were very good. The manchengo frito was tasty but quite small and seemed breaded like cheap mozzarella sticks. The tortilla de patatas was a disappointment. It was rubbery and the chef included every part of the onion including the dried out stalks in the omelet which were inedible
We had terrible service and we spent more time waiting on our food than we did actually eating. When we finally got our checks there were extra items added to each of our checks which caused the server to spend more time. No one checked on us until after we got our checks, one of the sliders I ordered was extremely under cooked. I will not be returning to this establishment.
On same evening quite sure many will be rating unfavorably. Reason is everyone was experiencing delays and wrong orders. Our party politely inquired what was going on. Mgr or Owner, not sure which, informed us they just converted to touch screen computer ordering and causing mass problems. Mgr said he would discount check due to our patience. Ultimately he wrote off our entire check. We tipped server appropriately. The real review: Tapas was awesome, prices reasonable considering downtown DC across from Verizon Center before major concert! Specialty Sangrias varieties was very cool ! Hats iff to mgmnt for trying their beat during the proverbial perfect storm dilemma.
Went out for brunch and was not disappointed. The portions were well sized and getting 3 items off the menu was amazing. The shrimp was very good, I want to eat it again. Also there was a huge selection of sangria, which my friends and I took full advantage of.
